1. Introduction
The DEWALT Drill Flip Drive Unit is a versatile 2-in-1 tool accessory designed for efficient drilling of pilot holes and driving screws. It allows for quick and easy changes between drilling and driving functions, helping users complete tasks faster. This unit is available in #6, #8, and #10 sizes, corresponding to models DW2700, DW2701, and DW2702 respectively. It features black oxide split-point drill bits for immediate contact drilling and a quick-change mechanism for single-step loading.
Important: This product is not 'Impact Ready' and should only be used with a regular drill chuck, not an impact driver.

2. Setup
- Attaching to Drill: Insert the hexagonal shank of the flip drive unit into the chuck of your regular drill. Tighten the chuck securely to ensure the unit is firmly held.
- Inserting/Removing Bits: The flip drive unit features a quick-change mechanism. To insert a drill bit or screwdriver bit, pull back the collar on the unit, insert the desired bit, and release the collar. The bit should lock into place. To remove, pull back the collar and pull out the bit.

3. Operating Instructions
The DEWALT Drill Flip Drive Unit simplifies the process of drilling pilot holes and driving screws. Follow these steps for optimal use:
- Drilling Pilot Holes:
- Ensure the drill bit is securely inserted into the flip drive unit.
- Position the drill bit on the desired drilling location.
- Apply steady, even pressure and activate your drill to create the pilot hole. The black oxide split-point drill bits are designed to start on contact, preventing walking.
- Flipping to Drive: Once the pilot hole is drilled, pull the collar on the flip drive unit, rotate the unit 180 degrees to expose the screwdriver bit, and release the collar to lock it in place.
- Driving Screws:
- Place the screwdriver bit into the head of the screw.
- Activate your drill to drive the screw into the pilot hole. The countersink feature will ensure the screw head sits flush with the surface.

4. Maintenance
- Cleaning: After each use, wipe down the flip drive unit and bits with a clean, dry cloth to remove any dust, wood chips, or debris. For stubborn residue, a slightly damp cloth can be used, followed by thorough drying.
- Lubrication: Periodically apply a small amount of light machine oil to the moving parts of the quick-change mechanism to ensure smooth operation.
- Inspection: Regularly inspect the drill bits and screwdriver bits for signs of wear, dullness, or damage. Replace worn bits to maintain optimal performance and prevent damage to your workpiece. Check the flip drive unit for any loose components or damage.
- Storage: Store the unit and bits in a dry environment to prevent rust and corrosion. Keep them in their original packaging or a suitable tool organizer to protect them from damage.
5. Troubleshooting
- Bit Slipping in Chuck: Ensure the drill chuck is tightened sufficiently around the hexagonal shank of the flip drive unit. If the problem persists, check the chuck jaws for wear or damage.
- Bit Slipping in Flip Drive Unit: Make sure the quick-change collar is fully released and locked after inserting the bit. Inspect the bit's shank for damage that might prevent it from seating correctly.
- Poor Countersink Finish: This can be caused by a dull countersink bit or incorrect drilling speed/pressure. Ensure the bit is sharp and apply consistent pressure.
- Difficulty Flipping Unit: If the unit is stiff or difficult to flip, clean the mechanism thoroughly and apply a small amount of lubricant as described in the Maintenance section.

7. User Tips
- Optimal Speed: Use appropriate drill speeds for the material you are working with. Slower speeds are generally better for harder materials or larger drill bits, while faster speeds work well for softer materials.
- Consistent Pressure: Apply steady and consistent pressure when drilling and driving to achieve clean holes and flush screw heads.
- Bit Condition: Always ensure your drill bits and screwdriver bits are sharp and in good condition. Dull bits can lead to splintering, stripped screw heads, and inefficient work. Consider having replacement bits on hand, as they can wear out over time.
- Safety First: Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, when operating power tools.
