5. Setup

  1. Install Batteries: Open the battery compartment and insert 2 x 1.5V AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity. Close the compartment securely.
  2. Remove Protective Cap: Gently turn the protective cap counter-clockwise to remove it from the electrode.
  3. Initial Rinse: Before first use or calibration, rinse the electrode with distilled water and gently wipe it dry with a clean, soft cloth.

6. Operation

  1. Power On: Press the 'ON/OFF/CAL' button to turn on the pH meter.
  2. Prepare Sample: If testing a firm sample (e.g., meat, fruit, cheese), use a conical knife to pierce a small hole before inserting the electrode to prevent damage.
  3. Insert Electrode: Carefully immerse the electrode into the liquid sample or insert it into the prepared solid/semi-solid sample. Ensure the electrode tip is fully submerged or inserted into the testing medium.
  4. Wait for Stabilization: Gently shake the meter to ensure proper contact and wait for the readings on the LCD screen to stabilize.
  5. Read Measurements: Once stable, the pH and temperature values will be displayed.
  6. Clean and Store: After each use, rinse the electrode thoroughly with distilled water and gently wipe it dry. Replace the protective cap, ensuring the sponge inside is moist with KCL storage solution.

7. Calibration

It is crucial to calibrate the pH meter regularly for accurate readings. Always calibrate pH 7.00 first, followed by pH 4.00.

  1. Preparation: Ensure the protective cap is removed. Turn on the pH meter.
  2. Rinse Electrode: Wash the electrode in pure (distilled) water and wipe it dry with a clean cloth.
  3. Calibrate pH 7.00:
    • Immerse the electrode into the pH 6.86 (or 7.00) calibration solution.
    • Gently shake the meter and wait for the reading to stabilize.
    • Press and hold the 'ON/OFF/CAL' button for about 5 seconds, then release. The 'CAL' symbol will appear on the display.
    • Wait for the calibration to complete (the display will show '6.86' or '7.00' and then return to measurement mode).
  4. Rinse Electrode: Wash the electrode in pure (distilled) water and wipe it dry.
  5. Calibrate pH 4.00:
    • Immerse the electrode into the pH 4.00 calibration solution.
    • Gently shake the meter and wait for the reading to stabilize.
    • Press and hold the '4.00' button for about 5 seconds, then release. The 'CAL' symbol will appear on the display.
    • Wait for the calibration to complete (the display will show '4.00' and then return to measurement mode).
  6. Final Rinse and Storage: After calibration, wash the electrode in pure water, wipe dry, and cover with the protective cap. Turn off the tester.
