3. Setup

3.1. Battery Installation and Charging

  1. Align the battery pack with the grooves on the back of the radio and slide it upwards until it clicks into place.
  2. To charge, connect the Type-C USB cable directly to the radio or place the radio in the provided base charger.
  3. The UV-21 GPS supports Type-C direct charging, allowing you to charge it using a power bank, laptop, or car charger.

3.2. Antenna Attachment

Screw the UV-21 GPS 701 antenna clockwise onto the antenna connector on top of the radio until it is finger-tight. Ensure a secure connection for optimal performance.

3.3. Initial Programming

The radio can be programmed via computer software or manually through the keypad. Most settings, including adding/deleting memory channels, adjusting VOX/squelch/power save levels, can be configured directly on the device.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1. Power On/Off and Volume

  • To power on, rotate the volume knob clockwise.
  • To power off, rotate the volume knob counter-clockwise until it clicks.
  • Adjust the volume by rotating the knob.

4.2. GPS Function

The GPS mode allows you to view your current location in real-time and find teammates. It can also be used as a map to determine the shortest distance in emergencies.

  1. To get your current GPS position: Press the VFO/MR keys. The display will show your current location coordinates (N, E, H).
  2. For location rescue: Press the VFO/MR key to view the location of others and the distance for rescue.

4.3. Wireless Copy Frequency

This feature allows for quick frequency sharing between two walkie-talkies without manual input.

  1. Press the MENU button to enter the โ€œFQSCANโ€ interface.
  2. Press MENU again. The UV-21 GPS will search for another radio's transmission frequency and privacy code.
  3. Once found, press MENU to store the frequency. The two walkie-talkies can now communicate normally.
