Setup Instructions

Before operating the HVM270, ensure all connections are secure and correct for the desired function.

1. Power Connection

Connect the power cable to a suitable AC 220V power source. The power switch is located on the back panel of the machine.

2. Gas Connections (for MIG and CUT)

  • MIG Gas In: For Gas MIG welding, connect your gas cylinder (e.g., CO2 or mixed gas) to the 'MIG GAS IN' port on the back panel.
  • CUT Gas In: For Plasma Cutting, connect an external air compressor to the 'CUT GAS IN' port on the back panel. The machine requires an external air compressor for cutting operations.

3. Pressure Reducing Valve Installation

A pressure reducing valve is included with the machine. It should be installed on the gas inlet for Plasma Cutting. This valve helps regulate the air pressure from your external compressor.

4. Wire Feeder Setup (for MIG)

Open the side panel of the machine to access the wire feeder. The HVM270 supports 1kg/5kg wire spools (0.8/1.0 mm wire diameter). Ensure the wire is correctly threaded through the wire feeder mechanism (0.5-13 m/min speed range) and the tension is appropriately set.

5. Torch and Clamp Connections

Connect the appropriate torch (MIG, CUT, or TIG) and the earth clamp/electrode holder to the front panel terminals. The connections are straightforward, with clear markings for positive and negative terminals. For Lift TIG, ensure the TIG torch (WP-17V type, not included) is connected and the machine is set to MMA mode initially, then proceed with TIG welding.

Operating Instructions

The HVM270 features a large LCD display and a single 'FUNCTION' button for mode selection, making operation simple.

1. Function Selection

Press the 'FUNCTION' button on the front panel to cycle through the available modes: MMA, MIG (CO2), MIG (MIX0.8), MIG (FLUX), Lift TIG, and CUT. The selected mode will be indicated on the LCD display.

2. MMA (Stick) Welding

  • Current Range: 20-250 Amps.
  • Adjust the current using the control knob on the front panel.
  • Connect the electrode holder and earth clamp as per the diagram.

3. MIG Welding (Gas/Gasless)

  • Current Range: 60-250 Amps.
  • Synergic Option: The HVM270 offers a full synergic option, automatically adjusting voltage and wire feeding speed based on the selected thickness or amperage. Micro-adjustments to voltage are possible.
  • Select the appropriate MIG mode (CO2, MIX0.8, or FLUX for gasless).
  • Ensure the correct wire type and size are loaded.

4. Lift TIG Welding

  • Current Range: 60-250 Amps.
  • Equipped with a TIG torch (not included), this mode allows for easy arc ignition.
  • Provides a stable, controllable, and consistent arc, ideal for small or intricate welding projects.
  • Use 100% Argon gas for clean, quiet, and virtually smoke-free welding.

5. Plasma Cutting (CUT)

  • Current Range: 15-40 Amps.
  • Preflow: A purge feature that ensures airflow at the tip for a charged plasma stream, aiding in clean cuts.
  • Postflow: Primarily for cooling the torch. Longer cuts at high amperage on thick metal require more postflow to dissipate heat.
  • Recommended Air Pressure: 50-60 PSI.
  • Max Severance Thickness: 12mm (15/32") at 220V@40A; 8mm (5/16") at 220V@30A.
  • Max Clean Cut Thickness: 10mm (25/64") at 220V@40A; 6mm (15/64") at 220V@30A.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your HVM270 welding machine.

  • General Cleaning: Keep the machine clean and free from dust and debris. Use compressed air to clear ventilation openings.
  • Wire Feeder: Periodically inspect the wire feeder mechanism for wear and tear. Ensure the rollers are clean and the wire path is unobstructed. The red rubber on the screws inside the wire feeder is for securing the screws tightly.
  • Gas/Air Lines: Check all gas and air lines for leaks or damage. Ensure the pressure reducing valve is functioning correctly.
  • Overheating Protection: The machine is equipped with overheating protection. If the machine stops during operation, allow it to cool down before resuming work.
  • Consumables: Regularly inspect and replace worn-out consumables for all torches (MIG, TIG, CUT) to maintain weld/cut quality.

Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your HVM270 welding machine.

  • No Power: Check the power cable connection and the power switch on the back panel. Ensure the power source is active.
  • No Arc/Cut: Verify all torch and ground clamp connections. Ensure the correct mode is selected and parameters are set. For MIG, check wire feed and gas supply. For CUT, ensure external air compressor is connected and providing sufficient pressure (50-60 PSI).
  • Poor Weld/Cut Quality:
    • Check consumables for wear and replace if necessary.
    • Ensure proper gas flow (for Gas MIG/TIG) or correct flux-cored wire (for Gasless MIG).
    • Verify material thickness and adjust current/voltage settings accordingly.
    • For Plasma Cutting, ensure recommended air pressure is maintained.
  • Overheating Indicator: If the machine stops and an overheating indicator is lit, allow the machine to cool down. Ensure proper ventilation around the machine.
