1. Introduction

The GIRIER Tuya ZigBee Human Presence Sensor is an advanced smart home device designed to detect human presence and motion using 24GHz mmWave radar technology. Unlike traditional PIR sensors, this device can detect subtle movements, including breathing and heartbeat, even when a person is stationary. It integrates seamlessly with the TuyaSmart or Smart Life application, enabling comprehensive home security, automation, and energy-saving scenarios.

2. Safety Information

  • Ensure the device is powered by a Type-C 5V1A power source.
  • Avoid installing the sensor in areas with strong airflow from fans or air conditioners, as this may affect detection accuracy.
  • A Tuya ZigBee Gateway Bridge is required for the sensor to function and connect to the Smart Life/TuyaSmart app.

5. Setup Instructions

5.1. App Installation

Before setting up the sensor, install the Smart Life or TuyaSmart app on your mobile phone. Search for "Smart Life" or "TuyaSmart" in your device's app store (APP Store/Google Play) or scan the QR code provided in the original user manual to install the app. Register an account if you don't already have one.

5.2. Powering On

Plug the provided Type-C USB cable into the power jack of the sensor and connect it to a 5V1A power adapter (not included). The sensor's LED indicator will light up.

5.3. Device Pairing (ZigBee Version)

  1. Ensure your Tuya ZigBee Gateway Hub has already been added to the Smart Life/TuyaSmart app.
  2. Enable Bluetooth on your mobile phone.
  3. Press and hold the button on the sensor for 5 seconds until the LED blinks.
  4. Open the Smart Life/TuyaSmart app, navigate to the gateway homepage.
  5. Click "Add Device" or "Search new device". The app will scan for nearby devices.
  6. Follow the in-app instructions to connect the sensor to your gateway.

5.4. Device Installation

Position the sensor so its front faces the area you wish to monitor. Ensure it is securely fixed. To maintain optimal detection accuracy, avoid installing the sensor in locations where strong air currents (e.g., from fans or air conditioners) might interfere with its operation.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1. App Settings

Once paired, open the Smart Life/TuyaSmart app and navigate to the sensor's device homepage. Here you will see the human presence status and current brightness. In the upper right corner, there is a switch to enable/disable detection. Click "Setting" to access the following options:

  • Detected Range Adjustment: Adjust the detection range from 1.5 to 6 meters. Note that there might be a tolerance of ±0.75 meters due to environmental factors.
  • Sensitivity Adjustment:
    • LOW: Detects general motion, such as waving a hand.
    • HIGH: Detects subtle motion, such as breathing.
  • Hold Time Setting: Set the duration for which the sensor will report "nobody" after human presence is no longer detected. This helps prevent lights from turning off too quickly.
  • Power LED: Toggle the power indicator light ON or OFF.
  • Presence Detection: Enable or disable the overall detection function of the sensor.

6.2. Configuring Smart Scenarios

The GIRIER Human Presence Sensor is an essential component for a fully automated smart home system. You can create custom automation rules within the Smart Life/TuyaSmart app using "IF" and "THEN" conditions to link the sensor with other smart devices.

  • Convenient Living: For example, upon entering a bathroom, the lights can automatically turn on. They will turn off once the sensor detects no one, ensuring privacy as no camera record is involved.
  • Child Protection: Trigger a smart siren to alert you if your baby approaches dangerous areas like stairs or sills.
  • Departure Mode: Set up a "Departure Mode" to automatically turn off all lights and activate security measures when no presence is detected, saving energy and enhancing home security.

7. User Tips

  • The sensor does not support voice checking.
  • A Tuya ZigBee Hub is always required for this sensor to function.
  • If high sensitivity is set, subtle movements like airflow might be detected. For general human motion detection, it is recommended to set the sensitivity to "low".
  • The sensor cannot distinguish between humans and inanimate objects.
  • If the detected object is within 3 meters, even with low sensitivity, micro-movements may still be detected.
  • Each sensor is designed to monitor one room. For monitoring multiple rooms or distinct areas, install independent sensors in each location.

8. Troubleshooting

8.1. No Detection or Inaccurate Readings

  • Check Power: Ensure the sensor is properly powered via the Type-C cable and the LED indicator is on.
  • Verify App Connection: Confirm the sensor is successfully paired with your ZigBee gateway and connected to the Smart Life/TuyaSmart app.
  • Adjust Sensitivity: If the sensor is too sensitive (detecting airflow), reduce the sensitivity setting in the app. If it's not detecting subtle movements, increase the sensitivity.
  • Check Installation Location: Ensure the sensor is not in an area with strong air currents (e.g., near fans, AC vents) that could cause false readings.
  • Detection Range: Verify the detected range setting in the app matches your desired coverage area.

8.2. Understanding Sensor Behavior

The GIRIER Human Presence Sensor utilizes 24GHz mmWave radar, which differs from traditional Passive Infrared (PIR) sensors:
