1. Introduction

This manual provides essential information for the proper installation, operation, and maintenance of AKAST pressure sensors designed for Ingersoll Rand compressors. These sensors are critical components for monitoring and controlling pressure within your compressor system, ensuring optimal performance and safety.

Please read this manual thoroughly before attempting any installation or operation to ensure correct usage and to prevent damage to the sensor or compressor system.

2. Product Overview

The AKAST pressure sensor is an actuator type device used to measure and transmit pressure readings within an air compressor system. It is compatible with various Ingersoll Rand compressor models, identified by the part numbers listed below.

  • Pin 1: Output
  • Pin 2: Case (Ground)
  • Pin 3: Supply (24VDC)

Important: Do NOT connect to the test pin (if present). Refer to the label on the sensor for specific terminal identification.

4.2 Mounting

  1. Carefully remove the old pressure sensor from its mounting location.
  2. Inspect the mounting area for any debris or damage. Clean if necessary.
  3. Apply a suitable thread sealant (if required by your compressor manufacturer) to the threads of the new sensor.
  4. Thread the new AKAST pressure sensor into the designated port. Tighten to the manufacturer's recommended torque specifications. Do not overtighten.
  5. Connect the electrical wiring according to the diagram above (Figure 2) and ensure all connections are secure.
  6. Once installed, re-pressurize the system slowly and check for any leaks around the sensor.

5. Operation

Once correctly installed and wired, the AKAST pressure sensor operates automatically as part of the compressor's control system. It continuously measures the system pressure and converts it into an electrical signal (output from Pin 1) that is sent to the compressor's controller.

  • The sensor provides real-time pressure data, allowing the compressor to maintain desired operating pressures.
  • It plays a crucial role in safety by triggering shutdowns or alarms if pressure exceeds or falls below predefined limits.
  • No user intervention is typically required for the sensor's operation once installed.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance of your compressor system is essential for the longevity and accuracy of the pressure sensor. While the sensor itself is generally maintenance-free, consider the following:

  • Inspection: Periodically inspect the sensor and its connections for any signs of physical damage, corrosion, or loose wiring.
  • Cleaning: Ensure the area around the sensor is free from excessive dirt, oil, or moisture, which could affect its performance or lead to corrosion.
  • System Checks: Include the pressure sensor in your routine compressor system checks to verify its readings against other gauges or system diagnostics.
  • Replacement: Replace the sensor if it shows signs of malfunction, provides inconsistent readings, or is physically damaged.

7. Troubleshooting

If you experience issues with your pressure sensor or compressor system related to pressure readings, consider the following:

Problem Possible Cause Solution
No pressure reading Loose or incorrect wiring, no power supply, faulty sensor. Check wiring connections (Pin 3 for 24VDC supply, Pin 2 for ground). Verify power supply. Test sensor continuity or replace if faulty.
Inaccurate readings Sensor contamination, electrical interference, faulty sensor. Inspect sensor for blockages or damage. Check for proper grounding. Compare readings with a known accurate gauge. Replace sensor if necessary.
Intermittent readings Loose connections, vibration, internal sensor fault. Secure all electrical and mechanical connections. Ensure sensor is properly mounted to minimize vibration. Replace sensor if problem persists.

For complex issues, it is recommended to consult a qualified compressor technician.

8. User Tips

  • Always ensure the compressor system is completely de-energized and depressurized before performing any work on the pressure sensor.
  • Use appropriate tools and follow torque specifications when installing to prevent damage to the sensor or compressor port.
  • Keep spare sensors on hand for critical applications to minimize downtime.
