6. Setup

6.1. Battery Installation and Charging

  1. Ensure the drill's power switch is in the 'OFF' (locked) position.
  2. Align the battery pack with the base of the drill handle and slide it in until it clicks securely into place.
  3. To remove the battery, press the release buttons on the sides of the battery pack and slide it out.
  4. To charge the battery, connect the EU charger to a power outlet and then to the battery pack. The power indicator lights on the battery will show the charging status. Charge fully before first use.

6.2. Installing Drill Bits or Screwdriver Bits

User installing a drill bit into the chuck
Figure 4: Installing a drill bit into the chuck.
  1. Ensure the drill is off and the battery is removed for safety.
  2. Rotate the chuck counter-clockwise to open the jaws.
  3. Insert the desired drill bit or screwdriver bit into the chuck. Ensure it is inserted as far as possible.
  4. Rotate the chuck clockwise to tighten the jaws firmly around the bit. Hand-tighten only.
  5. For hexagon socket screwdriver bits, simply push the bit into the 6.35mm hexagon socket until it locks. Pull to remove.

6.3. Torque Adjustment

The torque adjustment ring allows you to set the amount of rotational force the drill applies. This is crucial for preventing overtightening screws or damaging delicate materials.

  1. Rotate the torque adjustment ring (labeled 1-21) to select the desired torque setting. Lower numbers are for smaller screws and softer materials, higher numbers for larger screws and harder materials.
  2. The hammer icon setting is for drilling into masonry or concrete.

6.4. Speed Selection

The drill features a two-speed regulation switch (L/H) and a stepless speed trigger.

  1. L (Low Speed): For high torque applications like driving large screws or drilling into hard materials.
  2. H (High Speed): For faster drilling into softer materials or smaller screws.
  3. The trigger provides stepless speed adjustment: pressing it lightly results in low speed, while pressing it fully results in maximum speed for the selected gear.

7. Operating Instructions

7.1. Powering On/Off and Rotation Direction

  1. Forward Rotation: Push the Forward & Reverse switch to the left for clockwise rotation (for driving screws or drilling).
  2. Reverse Rotation: Push the Forward & Reverse switch to the right for counter-clockwise rotation (for removing screws or backing out bits).
  3. Lock Position: When the switch is in the center position, the trigger is locked, preventing accidental operation.
  4. To start the drill, select the desired rotation direction and press the trigger. The built-in LED light will illuminate the work area.
  5. To stop the drill, release the trigger.

7.2. Drilling and Screwdriving

Images showing the drill being used for various applications: drilling wood, concrete, and driving screws.
Figure 5: The YOFIDRA drill in various applications.
  1. Select the appropriate drill bit or screwdriver bit for your task and material.
  2. Adjust the torque setting and speed (L/H) according to the material and desired outcome.
  3. Position the tool firmly against the workpiece.
  4. Press the trigger gently to start at a low speed, then gradually increase pressure for the desired speed.
  5. Maintain a steady grip and apply even pressure.
  6. For drilling into hard materials like concrete, use the hammer function setting on the torque ring.

7.3. Automatic Transmission (Stepless Speed Control)

Diagram illustrating stepless speed control based on trigger pressure
Figure 6: Automatic Transmission - Machine speed is proportional to button pressing force.

The drill features an automatic transmission system where the machine speed is directly proportional to the pressure applied to the trigger. This allows for fine control over the drilling or screwdriving speed:

  • Low Speed: Light pressure on the trigger.
  • Medium Speed: Moderate pressure on the trigger.
  • High Speed: Full pressure on the trigger.

8. Maintenance

8.1. Cleaning

  • Always disconnect the battery before cleaning.
  • Use a soft, damp cloth to wipe down the tool. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Keep the ventilation openings clean and free of obstructions to ensure proper cooling.
  • Regularly clean the chuck jaws to ensure proper gripping of bits.

8.2. Battery Care

  • Store batteries in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Do not store batteries in a discharged state for extended periods. Recharge them periodically.
  • Avoid dropping or subjecting batteries to impact.
  • Do not attempt to disassemble or modify the battery pack.

8.3. Storage

  • Store the tool and its accessories in a secure, dry place, out of reach of children.
  • If storing for an extended period, remove the battery from the tool.

9. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Tool does not startBattery is not charged or not properly installed. Forward/Reverse switch is in the locked (center) position.Charge the battery fully and ensure it is securely installed. Move the Forward/Reverse switch to either the forward or reverse position.
Reduced power or speedBattery is low. Incorrect speed setting. Overload.Recharge the battery. Switch to the high-speed (H) setting if needed. Reduce pressure or use a larger drill bit/higher torque setting.
Bit wobbles or falls outChuck not tightened properly. Damaged bit.Ensure the chuck is tightened firmly around the bit. Replace damaged bits.
OverheatingBlocked ventilation vents. Continuous heavy use.Clean the ventilation vents. Allow the tool to cool down during prolonged use.

10. User Tips

  • For optimal performance and battery life, ensure your battery is fully charged before starting a task.
  • When drilling, start with a slow speed to create a pilot hole, then increase speed as needed.
  • Experiment with the 24 torque settings to find the perfect balance for different materials and screw sizes to avoid stripping screws or damaging surfaces.
  • The hammer function is specifically designed for drilling into hard materials like concrete; ensure you switch to this mode for such tasks.
  • Keep a variety of drill and screwdriver bits handy in the integrated bit slots for quick changes and improved efficiency.
