1. Introduction

The DYMO LM160 LabelManager is a portable, handheld label maker designed for creating custom labels quickly and efficiently. It supports DYMO D1 label tapes in widths of 6mm, 9mm, and 12mm, making it versatile for various labeling needs in homes, offices, and other environments. This device features a QWERTY keyboard for easy text entry and a monochrome printer output.

2. Package Contents

3. Setup

3.1 Battery Installation

  1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the label maker.
  2. Press down on the latch and slide the cover off.
  3. Insert 6 AAA alkaline batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
  4. Replace the battery compartment cover, sliding it until it clicks into place.

3.2 Label Tape Installation

  1. Open the label tape compartment cover, usually located on the top-front of the device.
  2. Insert the DYMO D1 label cassette into the compartment. Ensure the tape and ribbon are properly aligned with the guides.
  3. Press the cassette firmly until it locks into place.
  4. Close the label tape compartment cover.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Power On/Off

  • To turn on the label maker, press the Power button (usually indicated by a circle with a vertical line).
  • To turn off the label maker, press and hold the Power button until the screen turns off. The device may also power off automatically after a period of inactivity.

4.2 Text Entry and Editing

  • Use the QWERTY keyboard to type your desired text.
  • Use the Arrow keys to navigate the cursor on the display.
  • Press the Backspace key (left arrow with 'X' or similar icon) to delete characters.
  • Press the OK button to confirm selections or move to the next step in certain menus.

4.3 Formatting Options

The LM160 offers various formatting options to customize your labels:

  • Font Size (AA): Adjust the size of your text.
  • Bold (B): Apply bold formatting.
  • Italics (I): Apply italic formatting.
  • Underline (U): Apply underline formatting.
  • Menu Button: Access additional formatting options, symbols, and settings.

4.4 Printing Labels

  1. After entering and formatting your text, press the Print button (usually indicated by a printer icon).
  2. The label maker will feed and print the label.
  3. Once printed, use the integrated cutter on the side of the device to manually cut the label.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Cleaning the Print Head

To ensure optimal print quality, clean the print head periodically:

  • Turn off the label maker and remove the label cassette.
  • Use a soft, lint-free cloth or a cotton swab lightly dampened with rubbing alcohol to gently wipe the print head.
  • Allow the print head to dry completely before reinserting the label cassette and turning on the device.

5.2 General Cleaning

  • Wipe the exterior of the label maker with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Keep the label maker free from dust and debris.

5.3 Label Tape Usage

Always use authentic DYMO D1 label tapes for the best performance and to prevent damage to your label maker.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your DYMO LM160, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
