5. Maintenance
5.1 Cleaning
To ensure optimal performance, keep the scanner's reading window clean. Use a soft, lint-free cloth, slightly dampened with water or a mild, non-abrasive cleaning solution. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive materials that could scratch the surface.
5.2 Storage
Store the scanner in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. When not in use, it is recommended to keep it in its original packaging or a protective cover to prevent dust accumulation and potential damage.
6. Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your NETUM barcode scanner.

6.1 Some barcodes cannot be read. Why?
- Dirty or unclear barcodes: Ensure the barcode is clean and clearly printed.
- Digital barcodes: Barcodes displayed on phones, computers, or tablets can be read by the CMOS sensor. However, some older laser barcode scanners might not be able to read them. This scanner uses a CMOS sensor, so it should be capable.
- Specific barcode types: The setting for some barcode types may not be commonly used or enabled by default. You may need to activate a specific barcode type. Contact customer support if you are unsure about the barcode type.
6.2 Is there any barcode to apply or remove Enter for suffix?
Yes, you can refer to the "Common Function Barcodes" section in the full user manual to reverse this setting or contact customer support for assistance. This allows you to configure whether an "Enter" keypress is automatically added after each scan.
6.3 The data cannot be sent to my computer. Why?
Please ensure you have turned off the inventory mode. If the scanner is in inventory mode, it will store your scans internally instead of instantly transmitting them to the connected device. You need to scan the "Manual data upload" barcode (found in the full user manual) to send the stored codes to your connected device.
6.4 How to solve messy code problems when using other foreign languages?
The default language is English. To change the setting for other languages, please refer to the "Language Setting" chapter in the full user manual.
6.5 Can it read EAN 13 + 5 codes?
Yes, the scanner supports EAN-13 codes, and typically, the +5 add-on codes are also supported as part of the EAN standard. If you encounter issues, ensure the EAN-13 and add-on code symbologies are enabled in the scanner's settings.
7. User Tips
- For optimal scanning, ensure the barcode is flat and well-lit. Avoid scanning highly reflective surfaces at an angle that causes glare.
- When scanning from screens, adjust the screen brightness to a moderate level to improve readability.
- If you need to scan a large volume of items, utilize the automatic scanning feature to maintain efficiency and reduce hand fatigue.
- Regularly clean the scanner's window to prevent dust or smudges from affecting scanning accuracy.
- Familiarize yourself with the programming barcodes in the full user manual to customize settings like suffix characters or language preferences.
