ANENG TH201

ANENG TH201 Infrared Thermometer Instruction Manual

Model: TH201 | Brand: ANENG

1. Introduction

The ANENG TH201 is an industrial infrared thermometer designed for non-contact temperature measurement. It allows for safe and quick measurement of surface temperatures for various hot, hazardous, or hard-to-reach objects. The unit comprises optics, a temperature sensor, a signal amplifier, a processing circuit, and an LCD display. The optics collect infrared energy emitted by an object and focus it onto the sensor, which then translates this energy into an electrical signal. This signal is amplified, processed, and displayed digitally on the LCD screen.

6. Measurement Tips

6.1. Distance to Spot Size (D:S Ratio)

When taking measurements, consider the Distance to Spot Size (D:S) ratio, which for this unit is 12:1. This means that as the distance (D) from the target surface increases, the spot size (S) of the area being measured also increases proportionally. Ensure the target is larger than the unit's spot size for accurate readings. For critical accuracy, the target should be at least twice the spot size.

Video: Explanation of the 12:1 object distance ratio for accurate measurement.

12:1 object distance ratio diagram

Figure 7: Diagram illustrating the 12:1 distance to spot size ratio.

6.2. Emissivity

Most organic materials and painted or oxidized surfaces have a default emissivity of 0.95, which is pre-set in this unit. Inaccurate readings may occur when measuring shiny or polished metal surfaces. To compensate, cover the target surface with masking tape or flat black paint. Measure the temperature of the tape or paint once it reaches the same temperature as the underlying material.

6.3. Specific Measurement Scenarios

  • Boiling Liquids: When measuring boiling liquids, do not let smoke and water vapor come into contact with the temperature sensing area. The recommended measurement angle is between 45° and 60° to avoid incorrect readings.
  • Air Conditioning: Measure air conditioning trend temperatures.
  • Electrical Boxes: Check temperatures within electrical distribution boxes.
  • Refrigerators/Freezers: Measure refrigeration temperatures. If the temperature is too low, a low temperature alarm may be issued.
  • Car Engines: Monitor car engine temperatures.
  • Food and Boilers: Suitable for food temperature measurement and boiler temperature checks.

7. Maintenance

7.1. Lens Cleaning

To clean the lens:

  • Blow off any loose particles using clean compressed air.
  • Gently brush away remaining debris with a moist cotton swab. The swab can be moistened with water.

7.2. Case Cleaning

Clean the device case with a damp sponge or cloth and mild soap. Do not use solvents to clean the plastic lens, and do not submerge the unit in water.

9. User Tips

  • For optimal accuracy, especially when measuring shiny surfaces, apply masking tape or flat black paint to the target area and allow it to reach the object's temperature before measuring.
  • Always maintain the recommended distance-to-spot ratio (12:1) for precise readings. The closer you are to a small target, the more accurate the measurement.
  • Remember that this is an industrial thermometer and is not intended for measuring human or animal body temperature.

10. Troubleshooting

  • Device does not power on: Ensure AAA batteries are correctly installed with the proper polarity and have sufficient charge. Replace batteries if the low battery icon appears.
  • Inconsistent readings: Check for thermal shock (sudden changes in ambient temperature). Allow the unit to stabilize for 30 minutes if moved between environments with significant temperature differences. Also, ensure there is no strong electromagnetic interference from nearby equipment like arc welders.
  • Inaccurate readings on shiny surfaces: Refer to the Emissivity section (6.2) for tips on how to measure reflective materials.
