4. Setup
4.1. Battery Installation
- Ensure the meter is turned OFF.
- Locate the battery compartment on the back of the meter.
- Open the battery cover.
- Insert two AA 1.5V batteries, observing the correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
- Close the battery cover securely.
Warning: Batteries are NOT included and must be purchased separately.

4.2. Attaching the Protective Case
The meter comes with a soft rubber protective case. Slide the meter into the case to provide protection against drops and impacts.

4.3. Connecting Test Leads
Insert the red test lead into the positive (+) input terminal and the black test lead into the common (COM) terminal. Ensure they are firmly seated.

5. Operating Instructions
5.1. Power On/Off
Rotate the function knob from the 'OFF' position to any desired capacitance range to turn the meter ON. To turn OFF the meter, rotate the knob back to the 'OFF' position.
5.2. Capacitance Measurement
- Turn the function knob to the desired capacitance range (e.g., 600pF, 6nF, 60nF, 600nF, 6uF, 60uF, 600uF, 6000uF, 60mF, 100mF). The meter offers 10 ranges for various capacitance values.
- For small, plug-in capacitors, insert the capacitor leads directly into the dedicated 'CX' test socket.
- For larger capacitors or those requiring test leads, connect the test leads to the capacitor terminals. Ensure the capacitor is fully discharged before connecting.
- Read the capacitance value displayed on the LCD screen.

5.3. Zeroing Function
Before measuring, especially for small capacitance values, press the 'ZERO' button to clear any residual capacitance from the test leads or internal circuitry. This ensures more accurate readings.
5.4. Data Hold and Backlight
- HOLD button: Press the 'HOLD' button to freeze the current reading on the display. Press it again to release the hold function.
- Backlight button: The 'HOLD/*' button also functions as the backlight control. Press and hold it briefly to turn the LCD backlight ON or OFF.
5.5. Automatic Shutdown
The meter is equipped with an automatic shutdown feature to save battery power. If no operation is performed for a certain period (typically around 15 minutes), the meter will automatically turn off. To resume operation, turn the function knob to 'OFF' and then back to a measurement range.
6. Maintenance
6.1. Battery Replacement
When the battery indicator appears on the display, it's time to replace the batteries. Follow the steps in Section 4.1 to replace the two AA 1.5V batteries.
6.2. Fuse Replacement
If the meter fails to power on or provides incorrect readings despite new batteries, the internal fuse might be blown. The package includes two spare fuses. Fuse replacement should only be performed by qualified personnel. Refer to the warning label on the back of the device for fuse specifications (e.g., F 200mA/250V).
6.3. Cleaning
Wipe the meter with a dry, soft cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Keep the device dry and free from dust.
6.4. Storage
If the meter is not used for an extended period, remove the batteries to prevent leakage and damage. Store the meter in a cool, dry place, preferably in its protective case.
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Meter does not power on | Dead or incorrectly installed batteries; Blown fuse | Replace batteries, ensuring correct polarity. Check and replace fuse if necessary. |
| Inaccurate readings | Not zeroed; Faulty test leads; Capacitor not fully discharged; Incorrect range selected | Press ZERO button. Check test leads for damage. Ensure capacitor is discharged. Select appropriate range. |
| Display shows 'OL' or '1' | Overload or open circuit; Capacitance exceeds selected range | Select a higher capacitance range. Check for open circuit in the component or leads. |
| Backlight not working | Backlight turned off; Low battery | Press and hold the 'HOLD/*' button to toggle backlight. Replace batteries if low. |
