5. Installation & Setup

5.1. Installation Video Guide

This video provides a step-by-step installation guide for the Daly Smart Active Balancing BMS, demonstrating how to connect the sampling cables, B- and B+ wires, NTC sensor, and verify proper operation.

5.2. Step-by-Step Installation

  1. Prepare Battery Pack: Identify the total positive (B+) and total negative (B-) terminals on your battery pack.
  2. Connect B- Wire: Connect the first black cable and the blue B- wire (user-provided metal ring terminals) to the total negative terminal of the battery pack.
  3. Connect Sampling Cables: Connect the rest of the sampling cables in order to each cell's positive terminal. Ensure each cable is connected to the correct cell.
  4. Connect B+ Wire: Connect the B+ wire to the total positive terminal of the battery pack.
  5. Caution for Fewer Series: If you are using fewer series than the maximum supported by the sampling cable, do NOT short-circuit the excess wires. Securely tape them up individually with insulation tape to prevent accidental contact.
  6. Verify Sampling Cables: Before connecting to the BMS, check the sampling cables with a multimeter. Place the black probe on B0 (the first negative cell connection) and the red probe on B1, B2, B3, and so on. The multimeter should display positive voltage readings that increase step by step.
  7. Important Safety Note: During testing, do not let the two multimeter probes touch each other, as this may cause a cable short circuit.
  8. Connect B- to BMS: Connect the main B- wire from the battery pack to the B- terminal on the BMS.
  9. Insert NTC Sensor: Insert the temperature sensor (NTC) into the designated NTC port on the BMS.
  10. Plug in Sampling Cable: Carefully plug the sampling cable connector into the corresponding port on the BMS.
  11. Connect B+ to BMS: Connect the main B+ wire from the battery pack to the B+ terminal on the BMS.
  12. Verify BMS Operation: If the BMS's green indicator light is on, the BMS is working properly.

6.2. Mobile APP Operation

The Smart Active Balance BMS has integrated Bluetooth functionality. To use the mobile application:

  1. Search for "Balance BMS" in the iOS App Store or Google Play Store.
  2. Download and install the application.
  3. The BMS will automatically connect to the APP once installed and within range.

6.3. PC Host Communication

For advanced monitoring and configuration, the BMS can connect to a PC host:

  • Connect to the host PC using a communication wire (UART/RS485/CAN).
  • Review and change multiple protection values, including overcharge protection, over-discharge protection, over-current protection, temperature protection, and balancing current.
  • Set up functions such as Key button, Heating Module, and Buzzer via the PC host software.
  • Upgrade the BMS software (SW).
  • Store BMS real-time data locally on the PC.
  • Support for Inverter Protocol choice is available.

8. Troubleshooting

  • BMS Green Light Not On: If the green indicator light on the BMS does not illuminate after installation, recheck all cable connections, especially the sampling cables and the main B-/B+ wires. Ensure the NTC sensor is correctly inserted.
  • Incorrect Multimeter Readings: If multimeter readings are incorrect during the sampling cable verification step, carefully re-verify each connection point on the battery cells.
  • Excess Wires: If using fewer series than the maximum supported, ensure any unused sampling wires are securely taped individually with insulation tape to prevent short circuits.

9. User Tips

  • Parallel Connection: The Daly Smart BMS supports parallel connection of battery packs. For detailed guidance on configuring multiple BMS units in parallel (e.g., for two 8S 48V batteries), refer to the official website or contact technical support.
  • Series Configuration: Always ensure that the specific BMS model you select is compatible with your battery's series configuration (e.g., 4-8S, 8-17S, 8-24S) and current requirements (e.g., 250A).
  • Active Balancer: The integrated 1A active balancer is a key feature for maintaining cell voltage consistency and overall battery health. Ensure it is functioning correctly for optimal performance.
