4. Setup Instructions

4.1 System Requirements

  • Operating System: Windows XP or Windows 7 (32-bit versions are recommended for optimal performance).
  • For Windows 10/11 (64-bit), you may need to disable "digital signature enforcement" during driver installation.
  • Ensure .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 is installed for XP/Win7.

4.2 Software Installation

  1. Insert the provided Software and Drivers CD into your computer's CD-ROM drive.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the VAUX-COM software (version 120309a or 2014V).
  3. If installing on Windows 7, right-click the software executable and select "Run as administrator".
  4. If prompted about digital signatures during driver installation, temporarily disable digital signature authentication on your computer.
  5. **Important:** Do NOT update the software or firmware online. This can damage the OP-COM device.

4.3 Hardware Connection

  1. Connect the OPCOM Diagnostic Interface to your computer using the provided USB cable.
  2. Connect the other end of the OPCOM interface to your vehicle's OBD-II port.
  3. The device will draw power from the vehicle's OBD-II port.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Launching the Software

  • Ensure the OPCOM device is connected to both your computer and the vehicle.
  • Launch the VAUX-COM software. If on Windows 7, run as administrator.

5.2 Diagnostic Functions

The OPCOM software provides comprehensive diagnostic capabilities for Opel vehicles:

  • **Read and Clear Fault Codes:** Access diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) from various control units (Engine, Automatic Transmission, ABS, Airbag, etc.). Fault codes are displayed with full status information (Present, Not present, Intermittent). You can print, save, or copy these codes.
  • **Live Data Display:** View real-time measuring block information from control modules. The program can display up to 8 parameters simultaneously.
  • **Output Tests:** Perform activation tests on various components connected to the control units.
  • **Module Support:** Supports a wide range of control units including Engine, Automatic Transmission, ABS, Airbag, Engine Cooling module, Instrument Cluster, Electronic Climate Control, and Body Control Unit.

5.3 Communication Protocols

The diagnostic interface acts as a multiplexer, selecting the appropriate pins for communication based on the vehicle's protocol:

  • PIN3, PIN7, PIN8, PIN12 = Serial Link (ISO9141, KW81, KW82, KWP2000)
  • PIN6-PIN14 (CAN-BUS)
  • PIN3-PIN11 (CAN-BUS)
  • PIN1 (CAN-BUS)

The USB-based interface ensures high-speed communication, especially for CAN-BUS systems (up to 500kbps).

6. Maintenance

  • Keep the device clean and free from dust and moisture.
  • Store the device and accessories in a cool, dry place when not in use.
  • **Crucial:** Do not attempt to update the device firmware or software online, as this can damage the OP-COM device. Note that V1.99 versions do not support firmware updates, while V1.70 versions can be updated offline.

7. Troubleshooting

  • **Software not performing well on XP/Win7:** Ensure .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 system patch is installed.
  • **Software issues on Win7:** Always run the VAUX-COM software as an administrator.
  • **Driver installation problems (Windows 10/11 64-bit):** Temporarily disable "digital signature enforcement" on your computer before installing drivers.
  • **Device not recognized:** Check USB cable connection, try a different USB port, or reinstall drivers.
  • **No communication with vehicle:** Ensure the device is properly connected to the OBD-II port and the vehicle's ignition is on. Verify that your specific Opel model is supported by the OPCOM version.
  • **Device damaged after online update:** The device is not designed for online updates. If an online update was attempted, the device may be permanently damaged.

8. User Tips

  • **Key Programming:** Use the OPCOM to learn keys to the immobilizer (im-mo) and remote keys for central door locking. You will need the vehicle's security code, typically found on the CAR-PASS document.
  • **Module Programming:** Reset and program Engine Control Modules (ECM), Body Control Modules (BCM), and Instrument Panel Clusters (IPC).
  • **Service Interval Reset:** Reset and program the service interval reminder for models like Astra-G, Zafira, Corsa-C, and Meriva.
  • **Airbag Coding:** Code SAB6 and SAB8 airbag modules using the software.
  • **Compatibility:** While the device covers most Opel cars, it may not support all models. If unsure about your car's compatibility, please contact the seller for verification.
