1. Product Overview

The MEKEDE MN-B5-H2 is an advanced Android 13 car multimedia player designed for select Volkswagen models, including Golf 4, Passat B5, POLO, and Transport T5. This unit integrates GPS navigation, Wi-Fi connectivity, Bluetooth, CarPlay, and Android Auto functionalities to enhance your driving experience with entertainment and convenience.

Key features include a 7-inch touch screen display, 2GB RAM, 64GB ROM, and support for various digital media formats. It offers a user-friendly interface with multiple language options and supports steering wheel controls for safe operation.

2. Package Contents

Please check the package carefully to ensure all items are present and undamaged.

3. Installation Guide

Professional installation is recommended. Ensure the vehicle's power is disconnected before starting installation.

3.1 Compatibility Check

Before installation, verify your car's dashboard compatibility. This unit is designed for dashboards with rounded corners as shown in Figure 3.1. If your car's dashboard has sharp corners as depicted in the "can't install" examples, this unit is not compatible.

3.2 Wiring Connections

Refer to the following diagrams for proper wiring connections. Ensure all cables are securely connected.

  • Power Connector: Connect the main power harness from the vehicle.
  • Audio and Video Multifunctional Plug: For RCA cables (audio in/out, video in/out).
  • USB1 & USB2: For USB devices, software installation, and wired CarPlay/Android Auto.
  • Camera Input: For connecting the reversing camera.
  • GPS: Connect the GPS antenna.
  • Radio: Connect the radio antenna adapter.
  • CANBUS: If your car requires a CANBUS, use the provided cable to connect to the designated port.

3.3 Steering Wheel Control Wiring

The method for connecting steering wheel controls depends on whether your car has existing steering wheel buttons and if a CANBUS box is required.

  • Type A (No Steering Wheel Buttons): If your steering wheel control has no buttons, follow the diagram for "A" type connection.
  • Type B (With Steering Wheel Buttons & CANBUS): If your car has steering wheel buttons and requires a CANBUS box, follow the diagram for "B" type connection. Ensure the CANBUS is connected.

3.4 Rear View Camera Connection

To connect the rear view camera, follow these steps:

  1. Red cable (2) is connected to the back light "+"
  2. Black cable (1) is connected to the "GND"
  3. The reverse detection cable (4) (Brown color) is connected to the red cable (3) which extends from the video output cable.

3.5 CAN BUS Setup (If Required)

If your vehicle requires CAN BUS communication, you may need to configure it in the factory settings:

  1. Connect automotive cables and CAN BUS cables.
  2. Enter Factory Settings using password 8888 or 123456.
  3. Select "Protocol Settings".
  4. Select "CAN BUS setting".
  5. Select "CAN BUS type".
  6. Select your car model.
  7. Select the year of the car.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Main Interface Navigation

The main interface provides quick access to various functions. The latest main menu is designed for ease of use while driving.

  • Home Icon: Click to return to the main interface.
  • Recent Apps Icon: Click to open recently run programs.
  • Close Screen Icon: Click to close the screen, and then click anywhere on the screen to resume.
  • Return Icon: Press this button on any interface to return to the previous interface.

4.2 Status Bar Icons

  • USB Device Display: Indicates a USB device is connected.
  • System Time: Displays the current system display time.
  • Bluetooth Connected: This icon is highlighted on the top of the main interface to indicate that the Bluetooth connection has succeeded.
  • GPS Icon: The GPS icon.
  • Network Connected: This icon is highlighted at the top of the main interface to indicate that the network connection has been successful.

4.3 General Operations

  1. In any interface, slide down from the top of the display screen and slide out of the drop-down menu. In the drop-down menu, you can view the system notification information, adjust the brightness of the display screen, adjust the volume, open the Settings, open the wireless network connection and other operations.
  2. Long press the application icon on the main interface; you can move the location of the application icon or the icon of a third party to delete the application.

4.4 Radio Functions

The radio supports FM1, FM2, and FM3 bands.

  • Switch Bands: Click the switch button (blue button is selected) to cycle through FM1, FM2, FM3.
  • Auto Switch Bands: Click the icon to automatically switch bands.
  • Search Stations: Click the icon to search for stations.
  • Browse/Save Stations: Click the icon to browse / save the radio station.
  • EQ Interface: Click the icon to enter the EQ interface.
  • Fine Tune Search: Click forward/backward arrows to fine tune the search; You can also drag the progress bar to search stations manually.
  • Radio Frequency Scale Bar: Displays the current radio frequency.
  • RDS (Radio Data System): Click RDS option, select on or off. When on, the radio interface will display RDS keys. RDS has two modes: TA and AF; PTY has 32 mode options.
    • AF (Auto Focus): AF function will automatically search other channels of the current radio station to find a better and stable frequency than the original signal.
    • TA (Traffic Announcement): Traffic program / traffic announcement (traffic news detection and automatic switching).
    • TP (Traffic Program): TP indicates whether the current radio station supports traffic signals, and only those supported will receive TA information.
  • Local Setting: Click Local Setting to select the required area (Asia, Europe, Eastern Europe, North America, South America) for radio frequencies.

4.5 Music Playback

  • View Playlists: Click to view playlist, favorite list and recent playlist. Collection icon turns red for successful collection.
  • File Library: Click to view file library.
  • Playback Modes: The current playing mode is random. Click to switch to the cyclic list mode/single playing mode. The current playing mode is circular list play. Click to switch to random play mode/single play mode. The current play mode is single play. Click to switch to the cyclic list mode/random play mode.
  • Controls: Click play music, click pause music, click to switch to the previous song, click to switch to the next song.
  • Sound Effects: Click to enter the sound effect Settings.
  • Other Operations: Enter the list of songs, long press the name of the song to delete the song. When playing music, slide the play progress bar to drag to the desired track time.

4.6 Video Playback

  • Play Video: Click on the icon to play all video files on HD and USB, and swipe left to see all video lists.
  • Controls: Click and swipe to the right to see the list of videos currently playing. Hit play video. I'm gonna pause the video. Click to switch to the previous video. Click to switch to the next video.
  • Zoom: Zoom in on the video; Zoom out is video.
  • Other Operations: When the video is playing, slide the playback progress bar to drag to the desired track time.

4.7 Bluetooth Functions

The built-in intelligent Bluetooth system supports mobile phone pairing for hands-free calling and music streaming.

  • Pairing: If Bluetooth is not connected, the input field will appear "Bluetooth is not connected". If Bluetooth is connected, the input field will appear "Bluetooth connected successfully". Click the button to enter the Bluetooth setting interface.
  • Dialing Interface: Click to enter the Bluetooth dialing interface.
  • Contacts: Click to enter the Bluetooth contact interface. Click to update the address book on the car terminal; You can check the address book on the bus terminal.
  • Call Records: Click to enter the Bluetooth call recording interface. Call record, click to update the record on the mobile terminal and synchronize it to the car terminal. If you miss the call record, click to update the record on the mobile terminal and synchronize it to the car terminal. Historical dialing records, click to update the records on the mobile terminal and synchronize them to the car terminal.
  • Call Management: After the Bluetooth connection is successful, the dial button is displayed, and the input phone number can be directly dialed. Click to hang up the number; Click to answer the number. The current call audio is the car terminal. Click to switch to the mobile terminal; The current call audio is from the mobile terminal. Click to switch to the car terminal.
  • Bluetooth Music: The premise requires that the mobile phone has been connected to the car and the Bluetooth. Hit Play music; Click pause music; Click to switch to the previous song. Click to switch to the next song.

4.8 File Manager

The file manager allows you to query, expand, and manage files.

  • Can be a file query, file expansion, more can be too much.
  • Can query pictures, video, audio, recent; Download pictures, storage space, picture, video, audio can be copied to the specified location.

4.9 Steering Wheel Key Configuration

Configure your steering wheel buttons to control various functions of the multimedia player.

  • Select Button: Click the "Select button" to select the learning button.
  • Functions: Select buttons including: mode, power supply, navigation, main interface, volume +, volume -, FM, AM, search radio, previous song, next song, play/pause, mute, return, Bluetooth, hang up, answer, APP. Light up the required button and click "OK". Up to 12 buttons can be selected.
  • Press Type: Short/long press; You can choose short or long press.
  • Learning Process: Click start, select a function, and press the button on the steering wheel to learn success. Long or short press is optional.
  • Restore Factory: Remove all keys to learn operation and restore to factory state.
  • Save: After learning, click save to exit the application.

4.10 Car Settings

Access various vehicle-related settings, including:

  • Network: Click into the WIFI connection interface; Optional network manual connection. Click on Advanced Show Flight Mode, VPN, private DNS.
  • Bluetooth: Click to enter the interface for pairing with the new device. The device name can be used to search for all open Bluetooth, and the device can be paired by itself. Click the connection preference Settings to set the page.
  • Display: Click to enter the interface to set the brightness Settings of day and night and wallpaper Settings.
  • Dormancy: Click to enter the hibernation interface to set the hibernation aging and hibernation mode.
  • Body Setup: You can enter the handbrake detection setting, and you can choose to open, close and cover respectively.
  • Navigation Settings:
    1. Enter the third party navigation softening which can be manually selected.
    2. Mixing ratio; The ratio of the volume played simultaneously with other audio when the navigation voice is broadcast.
  • Factory Settings: (This does not support customer operations)
  • More Settings:
    1. System Settings:
      1. System restart; Manual restart of on-board equipment.
      2. Restore factory Settings; Restore factory Settings with one key (Note: restore factory Settings will clear the files in the system, please operate carefully).
    2. Voice and input method:
      1. Pronunciation: You can add the required language.
      2. Keyboard and input method: The input method can be switched.
      3. Advanced: Input help item is currently displayed (pointer speed item has been added).
    3. Date and time; Optional automatic network time and manual adjustment time.
    4. Sound; Adjust and set the main volume, installation media volume, Bluetooth volume, media volume when backing up, Bluetooth ringtone volume and navigation volume (if you want to restore the original state, click to reset the setting yourself).
  • About the Machine: Display vehicle-mounted Android basic information, storage information, hardware information and system information.
  • Sound Setting (Boot Memory Volume Range): Pull down and click sound setting in the drop-down bar or enter the setting. Click sound setting to enter the sound setting interface. Click the "BOOT MEMORY VOLUME RANGE" button, a pop-up boot memory volume range setting interface will appear. If the main volume is 10 when you turn it off, but you set the boot memory to 13-30, the main volume defaults to 13 when you turn it on again. If the main volume is 33 when you turn it off, the main volume defaults to 30 when you turn it on again.

4.11 CarPlay (CPlink)

CPlink is the application that supports the wireless and wire connection of carplay function. CarPlay is an in-vehicle system released by Apple.

  • Wireless Connection steps:
    1. Connect the car's Bluetooth with an iPhone.
    2. Enter CPlink application and wait for the connection.
  • Wired Connection steps:
    1. Enter CPlink application.
    2. Plug iPhone USB cable to 4pin USB, waiting for the connection.

4.12 Android Auto

Android Auto is the application that supports the wireless and wire connection of mobile phone that support Android Auto function. Android Auto is an in-vehicle system released by Google.

  • Wireless Connection steps:
    1. Connect the car's Bluetooth with an Android mobile phone.
    2. Enter Android Auto application and wait for the connection.
  • Wired Connection steps:
    1. Enter Android Auto application.
    2. Plug Android mobile phone USB cable to 4pin USB, waiting for the connection.

4.13 Optional Features

  • GPS Navigation: Built-in global positioning system with omni-directional map display, synchronous display real-time traffic conditions, rapid and accurate positioning. Supports maps like Navitel, IGO, Yandex, and Google.

  • TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System): After correctly installing the TPMS, the sensor will automatically monitor tire pressure and temperature, and send test time statistics data to the receiver. (TPMS sensors are not included and must be purchased separately).

  • OBD II (On-Board Diagnostics): Diagnose your car's status anytime. With OBD II function, you can monitor real-time data and fault codes. (OBD II device is not included and must be purchased separately).

  • ADAS DVR (Anti-Collision Warning Driving Recorder): Provides front vehicle distance prediction, anti-collision warning, and lane departure warning for safer driving. (DVR is not included and must be purchased separately).

5. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your MEKEDE multimedia player, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the screen and exterior. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents that could damage the surface.
  • Software Updates: Periodically check for and install software updates to ensure the system runs efficiently and has the latest features and security patches.
  • Avoid Extreme Temperatures: Do not expose the unit to extreme heat or cold, as this can affect its electronic components.
  • Cable Management: Ensure all cables are properly routed and secured to prevent damage from vibration or snagging.

6. Troubleshooting

6.1 Common Issues & Solutions

Problem Possible Cause / Solution
Rear view camera does not work.
  1. Check all camera wiring connections (refer to Section 3.4).
  2. Go to Factory Settings (password 8888 or 123456).
  3. Select "Protocol Settings" -> "Protocol Parameter Settings".
  4. Select "CAN BUS setting" -> "CAN BUS type" -> "car model" -> "year of the car".
  5. Select the correct camera type in Factory Settings (password 1234).
  6. Reset the radio after making changes.
Manual lacks mounting camera problem details. Refer to Section 3.4 for detailed camera wiring instructions and the troubleshooting steps above for camera settings.
Steering wheel controls not functioning.
  1. Ensure correct wiring (refer to Section 3.3).
  2. Go to "Steering Wheel Key" settings (Section 4.9) and re-learn the buttons.
  3. If your car has CANBUS, ensure it's properly connected and configured in "Car Settings" -> "Factory Settings" -> "CAN BUS setting".
Bluetooth connection issues.
  1. Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on both the unit and your mobile device.
  2. Delete previous pairings and try pairing again.
  3. Check Bluetooth settings in "Car Settings" -> "Bluetooth".

9. User Tips

Based on common user feedback and questions, here are some helpful tips:

  • Camera Setup: If your rear view camera is not working, first double-check all physical connections. Then, navigate to Factory Settings (password 1234 or 8888) and ensure the correct camera type is selected. Sometimes a simple radio reset after these changes can resolve the issue.
  • Steering Wheel Control Learning: Take your time when configuring steering wheel controls. Ensure each button press is registered correctly during the learning process. If your car has a CANBUS, verify its connection and configuration.
  • Language Settings: The unit supports a wide range of languages. If the default language is not preferred, you can easily change it in the "Car Settings" -> "More Settings" -> "Voice and input method" section.
  • Software Installation: For installing additional software like DVR applications, use the USB port. Ensure the APK file is on a USB drive and follow the on-screen prompts via the File Manager.
