2.2 Initial Connection Steps

  1. Connect the main negative terminal of the battery pack to the B- terminal on the BMS.
  2. Connect the main positive terminal of the load/charger to the C- terminal on the BMS.
  3. Carefully connect the balance wires from your battery cells to the corresponding balance ports (BC0 to BC20) on the BMS. Ensure the order is correct, starting from the lowest cell voltage.
  4. The BMS comes with balance wires included.
  5. For communication, connect the UART port to a compatible device (e.g., PC adapter or LCD displayer).

Note: UART/RS485 accessories, such as an LCD displayer, are sold separately.

3. Operating Instructions

The JBD Smart BMS offers versatile monitoring and parameter adjustment through its built-in Bluetooth and UART communication interfaces.

3.1 Mobile Application (BT-APP)

3.2 PC Tool Box (UART)

For more detailed monitoring and advanced parameter settings, connect the BMS to a PC using a UART adapter.

3.3 LCD Displayer (UART/RS485)

An optional UART/RS485 LCD displayer can be connected to monitor parameters directly without a phone or PC. This accessory is sold separately.

4. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your battery pack and BMS.

  • Cell Balancing: The BMS features 150mA passive balancing, which helps extend battery lifespan by preventing cell damage due to imbalance. Monitor cell voltages via the app to ensure proper balancing.
  • Thermal Management: The BMS includes one internal and two external temperature probes for multi-channel thermal control. Ensure external probes are placed strategically to monitor critical areas of the battery pack.
  • Power Consumption: The BMS operates with ultra-low power consumption (<10mA in active mode, <500µA in sleep mode), minimizing drain on your battery.
  • Connection Integrity: Regularly inspect all wiring connections for tightness and corrosion. Loose or corroded connections can lead to poor performance or safety hazards.
  • Software Updates: Keep your mobile app and PC tool software updated to benefit from the latest features and bug fixes.

5. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your JBD Smart BMS, refer to the following general troubleshooting steps. For detailed diagnostics, use the mobile app or PC tool.

  • No Power/Communication:
    • Check all main power connections (B- and C-) for secure contact.
    • Verify balance wire connections are correct and not loose.
    • Ensure the battery pack voltage is within the supported range (24V-60V).
    • For Bluetooth, ensure it's enabled on your device and the app is correctly paired.
    • For UART, check the cable connection and ensure the PC tool software is running.
  • Balancing Issues:
    • Monitor individual cell voltages in the app. If significant discrepancies persist, check balance wire integrity.
    • Ensure the BMS is configured for the correct battery type (LiFePO4 or Li-ion).
  • Over-current/Over-voltage/Under-voltage Protection:
    • The BMS supports six protection functions, including over-current, over-voltage, and under-voltage.
    • If protection is triggered, the BMS will cut off power. Identify the cause using the app's diagnostic data.
    • Allow the battery to rest or adjust charging/discharging parameters as necessary.
  • Temperature Warnings:
    • Check the temperature readings from the internal and external sensors via the app.
    • Ensure adequate ventilation around the battery pack and BMS.
    • Verify external temperature probes are correctly positioned and not damaged.

The BMS incorporates 12-layer battery protection for enhanced safety. Always prioritize safety when troubleshooting.
