Operating Instructions

Basic Functions

The Cox CK01 TKL functions as a standard QWERTY keyboard. All keys perform their labeled functions by default.

Function (Fn) Key Combinations

The keyboard features an Fn key, which, when pressed in combination with other keys, activates secondary functions. Specific combinations may vary, but common functions include:

  • Fn + F1-F12: Multimedia controls (e.g., volume up/down, play/pause, stop, next/previous track).
  • Fn + Arrow Keys: Adjusting RGB lighting effects (brightness, speed, mode).
  • Fn + Windows Key: Lock/unlock Windows key to prevent accidental presses during gaming.

Refer to the detailed feature image for visual cues on specific Fn key combinations for lighting control.

RGB Backlighting

The keyboard features per-key RGB backlighting with multiple effects and customization options. Use the Fn key combinations (often with arrow keys or specific function keys) to cycle through lighting modes, adjust brightness, and change effect speed.

Hot-Swappable Switches

The CK01 TKL supports hot-swappable mechanical switches, allowing you to change switches without soldering. This feature enables customization of typing feel and sound.

  1. Remove Keycap: Use the provided keycap puller to gently remove the desired keycap.
  2. Remove Switch: Use the provided switch puller to carefully grip the top and bottom clips of the switch and pull it straight up.
  3. Insert New Switch: Align the pins of the new switch with the holes on the PCB. Ensure the pins are straight. Gently push the switch down until it clicks into place. Do not force it.
  4. Replace Keycap: Place the keycap back onto the new switch stem.

Caution: Ensure the keyboard is unplugged before attempting to remove or insert switches to prevent damage.

Maintenance

Cleaning the Keyboard

  • Unplug: Always unplug the keyboard from your computer before cleaning.
  • Dust Removal: Use a can of compressed air to blow away dust and debris from between the keycaps.
  • Keycap Cleaning: For deeper cleaning, remove keycaps using the provided keycap puller. Wash keycaps with mild soap and water, rinse thoroughly, and ensure they are completely dry before reattaching.
  • Surface Cleaning: Wipe the keyboard surface with a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
  • Dust Cover: Use the included dust cover when the keyboard is not in use to prevent dust accumulation.

Switch Maintenance

As the keyboard features hot-swappable switches, individual switches can be replaced if they become faulty or if you wish to change the typing feel. No specific lubrication or internal maintenance is typically required for the switches themselves beyond replacement.

Troubleshooting

  • Keyboard Not Responding:
    • Ensure the USB cable is securely connected to both the keyboard and the computer.
    • Try plugging the keyboard into a different USB port on your computer.
    • Test the keyboard on another computer to rule out a computer-specific issue.
    • Ensure the detachable USB-C cable is fully inserted into the keyboard's port.
  • Specific Keys Not Working:
    • Carefully remove the keycap and then the switch for the non-functional key using the provided tools.
    • Inspect the switch pins for any bends or damage. Straighten bent pins gently with tweezers if possible.
    • Reinsert the switch firmly. If the issue persists, try swapping it with a known working switch from a less critical key (e.g., Scroll Lock) to determine if the switch itself is faulty.
  • RGB Lighting Not Working/Incorrect:
    • Ensure the keyboard is properly connected and receiving power.
    • Try cycling through lighting modes and adjusting brightness using the Fn key combinations.
    • If available, check for any manufacturer-provided software that might control lighting.
  • Accidental Windows Key Presses:
    • Use the Fn + Windows key combination to lock/unlock the Windows key.
