5. Setup

5.1 Charging the Radio

Before first use, fully charge your S1 Mini radio. The radio features a universal USB Type-C charging port.

  1. Connect the Type-C cable to the radio's charging port (Figure 3.3).
  2. Connect the other end of the cable to a compatible USB power adapter (Figure 2.3) or a USB port on a computer.
  3. The display will indicate charging status. A full charge provides approximately 16-18 hours of working time and 100 hours of standby time.

5.2 Attaching the Belt Clip and Nylon Strap

The S1 Mini comes with a belt clip and a nylon strap for convenient carrying.

  • Attach the belt clip to the back of the radio by sliding it into the designated slot until it clicks securely.
  • Thread the nylon strap through the loop on the radio for additional carrying options.

5.3 Connecting the Earpiece

For private communication, connect the standard 10g earpiece to the radio.

  1. Locate the earpiece port on the radio.
  2. Insert the earpiece connector firmly until you hear a click.
  3. Adjust the earpiece for a comfortable fit.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Power On/Off

  • To Power On: Press and hold the Power button (refer to Figure 3.2) until the display lights up.
  • To Power Off: Press and hold the Power button until the display turns off.

6.2 Adjusting Volume

Use the Volume Up (+) and Volume Down (-) buttons (refer to Figure 3.2) to adjust the listening volume.

6.3 Selecting a Channel

The S1 Mini supports up to 16 storage channels. The current channel number (e.g., "L-01") is shown on the display.

  • Use the M button or other programmable buttons (if configured) to cycle through available channels.

6.4 Transmitting and Receiving

  • To Transmit: Press and hold the PTT (Push-to-Talk) button (refer to Figure 3.2 and Figure 6.2). Speak clearly into the microphone. Release the PTT button to stop transmitting.
  • To Receive: Ensure the PTT button is not pressed. The radio will automatically receive transmissions on the selected channel.

7. Advanced Features

7.1 AirClone

The AirClone feature allows for simple and fast cloning of configuration data from one S1 Mini radio to multiple others. This streamlines deployment and ensures consistent settings across your fleet of radios.

7.2 Channel Copy

The S1 Mini supports channel copy, enabling quick communication with existing radios, regardless of their brand or model. This feature helps integrate the S1 Mini into your current communication system.

7.3 Simple Management via App

Manage your S1 Mini radio conveniently using the Hytera Radio app on your Android phone. This app allows for programming, batch configuration, backing up frequency information, and more via Bluetooth.

8. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your HYTERA S1 Mini radio, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Regularly wipe the radio's surface with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners. The display is anti-dirt, anti-abrasion, and anti-oil, making it easy to keep clean.
  • Water Resistance: The S1 Mini has an IP45 rating, meaning it is protected against water jets from any direction. However, it is not designed for submersion. Avoid exposing it to heavy rain or direct water streams for extended periods.
  • Battery Care: Charge the battery regularly, even if the radio is not in frequent use, to maintain battery health. Avoid fully discharging the battery for prolonged periods.
  • Storage: Store the radio in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

9. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your S1 Mini radio, try the following troubleshooting steps:

9.1 No Power

  • Ensure the battery is charged. Connect the radio to a charger and check if the charging indicator appears.
  • Verify that the power button is pressed and held long enough to turn the device on.

9.2 Cannot Transmit or Receive

  • Check if the radio is on the correct channel.
  • Ensure the PTT button is fully pressed when transmitting and released when receiving.
  • Verify that other radios are on the same frequency/channel.
  • Check if the battery level is sufficient for transmission.
  • Ensure you are within the communication range.

9.3 Poor Audio Quality

  • Adjust the volume level.
  • Ensure the microphone and speaker are not obstructed or dirty.
