2. Setup and Installation

Package Contents

  • keepLiNK KP-9000-6XHML-X2 Multi-Gigabit Managed Switch
  • Power Adapter (EU, US, UK, or AU plug depending on region)
  • Wall-mount kit
  • User Manual (this document)

Physical Installation

The switch can be installed on a desktop or mounted on a wall. Ensure adequate ventilation around the device, especially if placing it in an enclosed space, although its fan-less design minimizes heat generation.

  1. Desktop Placement: Place the switch on a flat, stable surface. Ensure there is enough space for cable connections and airflow.
  2. Wall Mounting: Use the provided wall-mount kit. Mark the desired mounting points on the wall, drill pilot holes, and secure the mounting brackets. Attach the switch to the brackets.

Connecting to Your Network

  1. Power Connection: Connect the provided power adapter to the DC 12V port on the rear of the switch and then to a power outlet. The power LED (P) on the front panel should illuminate.
  2. RJ45 Connections: Connect your network devices (e.g., computers, NAS, WiFi 6 Access Points, Security Cameras, IP Phones) to the 4x 2.5Gb RJ45 ports (L1-L4) using standard Ethernet cables. The switch will automatically detect 1Gbps or 2.5Gbps speeds. The corresponding Link/Act LEDs (L1-L4) will light up to indicate a successful connection and blink with activity.
  3. SFP+ Connections: For high-speed uplinks or connections to other 10Gbps devices, insert compatible SFP+ modules into the 2x 10Gb SFP+ ports (5(10G), 6(10G)). Connect fiber optic cables or compatible 2.5Gb Cat Stick cables. The corresponding LEDs (5, 6) will indicate link status and activity.

3. Operating Instructions

Initial Power-On

Once connected to power, the switch will perform a self-test. The Power LED (P) will be solid green. The port LEDs will indicate link status and activity as devices are connected.

Web Management Interface

The keepLiNK KP-9000-6XHML-X2 is a managed switch, offering advanced configuration options via a web-based interface.

  1. Accessing the Interface: Connect a computer to any RJ45 port on the switch. Open a web browser and enter the switch's default IP address (refer to the device label or included quick start guide for the default IP, typically 192.168.1.1 or similar).
  2. Login: Enter the default username and password (refer to the device label or quick start guide). It is highly recommended to change the default password immediately after the first login for security purposes.
  3. Configuration: Through the web interface, you can configure various network settings, including:
    • VLAN: Create and manage up to 32 VLANs for network segmentation.
    • QoS (Quality of Service): Prioritize network traffic for critical applications.
    • SNMP: Monitor network devices and manage network performance.
    • LACP (Link Aggregation Control Protocol): Combine multiple physical links into a single logical link for increased bandwidth and redundancy.
    • STP/RSTP (Spanning Tree Protocol/Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol): Prevent network loops.
    • Flow Control: Manage data flow to prevent packet loss.
    • User Management: Configure user accounts and access levels for the switch.
    • Firmware Upgrade: Update the switch firmware for new features and bug fixes.
    • Configuration File Management: Download and upload configuration files for backup and restoration.

LED Indicators

  • P (Power): Solid green when the switch is powered on.
  • L1-L4 (RJ45 Ports): Indicate link status and activity for the 2.5Gb RJ45 ports. Typically, solid green for a link and blinking for activity. Some models may use different colors for speed indication (e.g., green for 2.5G, amber for 1G).
  • 5(10G), 6(10G) (SFP+ Ports): Indicate link status and activity for the 10Gb SFP+ ports.

4. Maintenance

General Care

  • Keep the switch in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
  • Ensure proper ventilation. Although fan-less, sufficient airflow prevents overheating.
  • Clean the exterior with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners.

Firmware Updates

Periodically check the manufacturer's website for firmware updates. Updating the firmware can provide new features, performance improvements, and security patches. Refer to the web management interface for the firmware upgrade procedure.

Configuration Backup

It is recommended to regularly back up your switch configuration file through the web management interface. This allows for quick restoration of settings in case of a reset or replacement.

5. Troubleshooting

No Power

  • Ensure the power adapter is securely connected to the switch and a working power outlet.
  • Check if the power outlet is functional by plugging in another device.

No Link on Port

  • Verify that the Ethernet cable is securely connected to both the switch port and the network device.
  • Try a different Ethernet cable to rule out cable failure.
  • Ensure the connected device is powered on and functioning correctly.
  • For SFP+ ports, ensure the SFP+ module is correctly inserted and compatible.

Cannot Access Web Management Interface

  • Ensure your computer's IP address is in the same subnet as the switch's IP address.
  • Verify the switch's IP address. If unknown, you may need to reset the switch to factory defaults (see below).
  • Clear your browser's cache or try a different browser.

Factory Reset

If you forget the login credentials or encounter persistent issues, you can perform a factory reset. Locate the 'Reset' button on the front panel of the switch. With the switch powered on, use a paperclip or similar pointed object to press and hold the Reset button for approximately 5-10 seconds until the LEDs flash. The switch will then reboot with factory default settings.
