2. Initial Calibration
For accurate readings, it is crucial to calibrate the tester before first use and periodically thereafter.
pH Calibration:
The device supports 1-point, 2-point, or 3-point automatic calibration. Calibration solutions are typically included or can be purchased separately.
- Prepare pH buffer solutions (e.g., pH 6.86, pH 4.00, pH 9.18).
- Turn on the tester.
- Immerse the electrode into the first buffer solution (e.g., pH 6.86).
- Press the "MODE/CAL" button to enter calibration mode. The device will automatically identify the solution.
- Once stable, rinse the electrode with distilled water and repeat for other buffer solutions if performing 2-point or 3-point calibration.
EC/TDS/Salinity Calibration:
The device supports 3-point automatic calibration for conductivity (EC).
- Prepare EC calibration solutions (e.g., 1413 uS/cm, 12.88 mS/CM, 111.8 mS/CM).
- Turn on the tester.
- Immerse the electrode into the first EC calibration solution.
- Press the "MODE/CAL" button to enter calibration mode. The device will automatically identify the solution.
- Once stable, rinse the electrode with distilled water and repeat for other EC calibration solutions.

Operating Instructions
1. General Measurement Procedure
- Remove the protective cover from the probe.
- Rinse the electrode with distilled water before each use.
- Press the "Open key" (power button) to turn on the tester.
- Immerse the electrode into the sample solution, ensuring the liquid level is below the cap.
- Gently stir the solution and wait for the reading to stabilize.
- Press the "HOLD/TEMP" button to hold the current reading on the display. Press again to release.
- To switch between measurement modes (PH, EC, TDS, Salinity, Temperature), press the "MODE/CAL" button repeatedly.
- After use, press the "Open key" to turn off the tester.
- Rinse the electrode with distilled water and replace the protective cover.
2. Backlight Function (for models with backlight)
Some models of the 9909 tester feature a backlight for improved visibility in low-light conditions. If your model has a backlight, it will typically activate automatically when the device is turned on or can be toggled via a specific button press (refer to the device's display for indication).

Maintenance
1. Electrode Cleaning
Always clean the electrode with distilled water after each use to prevent contamination and ensure accurate readings. Do not use tap water or abrasive materials.
2. Storage
Store the tester with the protective cap on. For pH electrodes, it is recommended to keep the electrode moist with a storage solution or a few drops of distilled water in the cap to prevent drying out.
3. Battery Replacement
Replace the three 1.5V LR44 button batteries when the display indicates low power or the device fails to turn on. Refer to the "Battery Installation" section for instructions.
Troubleshooting
- Inaccurate Readings:
- Ensure the electrode is clean.
- Re-calibrate the tester, especially if it hasn't been used for a while or if readings seem off.
- Check battery level and replace if low.
- pH Calibration Failure:
- If the calibration solution is not recognized, the electrode might be damaged or worn out and may need replacement.
- Ensure correct buffer solutions are used and they are not expired.
- Device Not Turning On:
- Check if batteries are installed correctly.
- Replace batteries with new ones.
