1. Introduction

The Satlink WS-6960 is a DVB-S/S2 and MPEG-2/4 H.265 (8 Bit) compliant handheld satellite meter designed for efficient installation and verification of digital Satellite TV services. Its compact size, lightweight design, intuitive user interface, and long battery life make it an ideal tool for both residential and multi-dwelling unit installations.

2. Safety Information

Please read all safety instructions carefully before using the device. Failure to follow these instructions may result in electric shock, fire, or damage to the device.

  • Do not expose the device to rain or moisture.
  • Do not open the device casing; refer all servicing to qualified personnel.
  • Use only the provided power adapter for charging.
  • Ensure proper ventilation to prevent overheating.
  • Avoid extreme temperatures.
  • Protect the LCD screen from impact.
  • The device contains a Li-ion battery; dispose of it responsibly according to local regulations.
  • LNB short protect feature is integrated; however, always ensure correct connections.

3.2 Device Components

  • LNB Input: For connecting to the satellite dish LNB.
  • LCD Screen: 4.3-inch TFT display for viewing menus, signal information, and video.
  • Indicators: LEDs for Power, 22KHz tone, 13V/18V LNB voltage, Signal Lock, and Charging status.
  • Keypad: Navigation buttons (OK, Arrow keys, Menu, Exit), function keys (F1-F4), numeric keys, and special function buttons (TTXT, SUBT, TV/R, AUDIO, AV-S, INFO, MUTE, SCAN).
  • AV IN/OUT Ports: 3.5mm jacks for composite video (CVBS) and stereo audio input/output.
  • HDMI Output: HDMI 1.3 port for connecting to an external display.
  • USB Port: For software upgrades and multimedia playback.
  • DC Power Input: For connecting the power adapter to charge the battery or power the device.

4. Setup

4.1 Charging the Battery

  1. Connect the provided power adapter to the DC Power Input port on the side of the WS-6960 (refer to Figure 2).
  2. Plug the adapter into a standard AC power outlet (100-240VAC, 50/60Hz).
  3. The "Charge" indicator LED will illuminate during charging.
  4. A full charge typically takes several hours. The indicator may change or turn off when fully charged.

Note: Ensure the device is fully charged before initial use for optimal battery performance.

4.2 Connecting to LNB

  1. Locate the LNB Input connector on the top of the WS-6960 (refer to Figure 1).
  2. Connect the coaxial cable from your satellite dish's LNB to this input.
  3. The device will supply 13V/18V and 22KHz tone to the LNB as required.

4.3 Connecting to External Display (Optional)

  1. HDMI Output: Connect an HDMI cable from the WS-6960's HDMI Output port to an HDMI input on your TV or monitor.
  2. AV Output: Use the provided 3.5mm AV cable to connect the AV Output port to the composite video (CVBS) and stereo audio inputs on your TV or monitor.

4.4 Connecting External AV Source (Optional)

  1. Use a 3.5mm AV cable to connect an external AV source (e.g., a camera or media player) to the AV Input port on the WS-6960.
  2. This allows the WS-6960 to display video and audio from the external source on its screen.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Powering On/Off

  • Press and hold the Power button (usually located on the side or front panel) to turn the device on or off.
  • The "Power" indicator LED will light up when the device is on.

5.2 Menu Navigation

  • Press the MENU button to access the main menu.
  • Use the UP/DOWN arrow keys to navigate through menu options.
  • Press the OK button to select an option or confirm a setting.
  • Use the LEFT/RIGHT arrow keys to change values or move between sub-menus.
  • Press the EXIT button to return to the previous screen or exit the menu.

5.3 Satellite Finding

  1. From the main menu, select "Satellite Finder" and press OK.
  2. Choose the desired satellite from the list or add a new one.
  3. Adjust LNB settings (e.g., LNB type, frequency, 22KHz, DiSEqC) as needed.
  4. Point your satellite dish towards the chosen satellite. The meter will display signal strength and quality.
  5. Adjust the dish until the signal strength and quality are maximized, and the "Lock" indicator LED illuminates.
  6. The device can also auto-calculate Azimuth (AZ) and Elevation (EL) angles to assist with dish alignment.
  7. A sound and light alarm will activate upon signal lock.

5.4 Channel Scanning

  1. After locking onto a satellite, navigate to the "CH List" or "SAT/TP Manager" menu.
  2. Select the desired scanning mode:
    • Auto Scan: Scans all available transponders on the selected satellite.
    • Blind Scan: Detects and scans transponders without prior knowledge of their parameters.
    • Manual Scan: Allows you to input specific transponder frequencies and parameters for scanning.
    • NIT Scan: Uses Network Information Table for scanning.
  3. Press OK to start the scan.
  4. Once scanning is complete, channels will be saved to the channel list.

5.5 Multimedia Playback

  • Connect a USB storage device (formatted as NTFS, FAT32, or FAT16) to the USB port.
  • Select "Multimedia" from the main menu.
  • Browse and play supported media files (wma, mp3, mp4, avi, jpg, bmp, img).

5.6 System Settings

  • Access "System Setting" from the main menu to configure language, time, display, and other system parameters.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning

  • Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the device.
  • For stubborn dirt, slightly dampen the cloth with water. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Keep the screen clean and free from scratches.

6.2 Battery Care

  • To prolong battery life, avoid fully discharging the battery frequently.
  • Charge the device regularly, even if not in use, to maintain battery health.
  • Store the device in a cool, dry place when not in use for extended periods.

6.3 Software Upgrade

  • Periodically check the manufacturer's website for available software updates.
  • To upgrade, download the firmware file to a USB drive.
  • Connect the USB drive to the WS-6960's USB port.
  • Navigate to the system settings menu and select the software upgrade option. Follow the on-screen instructions carefully.
  • Do not power off the device during a software upgrade.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Device does not power on: Ensure the battery is charged or connect the power adapter. Check the power button.
  • No signal detected: Verify LNB connection, check satellite dish alignment, ensure correct satellite and transponder settings.
  • Poor signal quality: Fine-tune dish alignment, check LNB for damage, ensure cable connections are secure.
  • Screen is blank or frozen: Try restarting the device. If the issue persists, contact support.
  • USB device not recognized: Ensure the USB drive is formatted to NTFS, FAT32, or FAT16. Try a different USB drive.
