5.2 Training Modes (Automatic Operation)

The PD 518 receiver is designed to operate without a remote control. It functions as an automatic bark detection collar. The collar will activate its training modes in response to your dog's barking. The specific sequence and intensity of the Beep, Vibration, and Static Shock modes are typically pre-programmed or automatically adjusted based on the detected bark intensity.

  • Beep Mode: Emits an audible tone. There are 9 different tones available.
  • Vibration Mode: Delivers a non-harmful vibration. Levels range from 1 to 9.
  • Static Shock Mode: Provides a mild static correction. Levels range from 1 to 16.

Consult the product's specific programming for how the modes escalate or adjust automatically. If manual adjustment of modes or levels is desired, a compatible remote control (not included) would be necessary.

5.3 Waterproof Feature

The PD 518 receiver is IPX7 waterproof, meaning it can withstand immersion in water up to 1 meter for 30 minutes. This makes it suitable for use in rain, during showering, or even swimming. Always ensure the charging port cover is securely closed before exposing the receiver to water to prevent damage.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning the Collar and Receiver

  • Regularly clean the collar strap with mild soap and water.
  • Wipe the receiver unit with a damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Ensure the contact points are clean and free of debris to maintain effective operation.

6.2 Battery Care

  • Recharge the receiver when the battery indicator shows low power.
  • Avoid overcharging or completely draining the battery for extended periods to prolong its lifespan.
  • If storing for a long time, charge the battery to about 50% and recharge every few months.

6.3 Checking Contact Points

Periodically check the contact points for wear or damage. Ensure they are securely attached to the receiver. If your dog has sensitive skin, consider using the included silicone covers over the contact points (if provided) or consult with a veterinarian.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Receiver not turning on: Ensure the battery is charged. Connect to the charger and check the indicator light.
  • Collar not activating with bark: Check collar fit; contact points must touch the skin. Ensure the receiver is powered on. The sensitivity might need adjustment (if applicable to this model's automatic settings, or via a separate remote).
  • Dog not responding to correction: Verify the collar is fitted correctly and contact points are making good contact. Ensure the battery is charged. The correction level might be too low (if adjustable, or if using a separate remote).
  • False triggers: Ensure the collar is not too loose, which can cause movement and false activations. Check for external noises that might be mistaken for barks.
  • Water damage: Always ensure the charging port cover is tightly sealed before exposing the receiver to water. If water ingress is suspected, turn off the device immediately and allow it to dry completely before attempting to use or charge.

8. User Tips

  • Gradual Introduction: Introduce the collar gradually. Let your dog wear it for short periods without activation first, so they associate it with comfort, not correction.
  • Supervision: Always supervise your dog when they are wearing the training collar, especially during initial use.
  • Not for Prolonged Wear: Do not leave the collar on your dog for more than 12 hours a day to prevent skin irritation from the contact points.
  • Positive Reinforcement: Combine the collar's use with positive reinforcement training methods to encourage desired behaviors.
  • Check Skin Regularly: Inspect your dog's neck daily for any signs of irritation or sores from the contact points. If irritation occurs, discontinue use and consult a veterinarian.
