Note:

  • Connecting an external power supply may cause interference. If reception issues occur, disconnect the external power supply and use battery power.
  • Ensure any power adapter used is certified and meets local standards.

2.5 Charging the Battery

When the battery icon on the display shows "♫", the battery is low and needs charging. To charge the BL-5C battery, connect a DC 5V/0.5A charger to the micro-USB Type-B socket on the left side of the radio using the provided cable. During charging, the charging time is displayed, and the "Charge" indicator flashes. Once fully charged, the battery symbol will show "♫" and the "Charge" indicator will stop flashing.

Notes:

  • It is recommended not to charge and listen to the radio simultaneously to avoid electrical noise interference.
  • If the device is unused for a long time, charge the battery every 3 months for about 4 hours to extend its life.

2.6 Setting the Clock (24-hour format)

  1. Press and hold [TIME] until the clock time starts flashing.
  2. Use the numeric keys to enter the current time (four digits for hours and minutes), or rotate the [TUNING] and [VOLUME] knobs to adjust the time.
  3. Press [TIME] again to confirm the setting.

2.7 Setting the FM Frequency Range

With the device off, press and hold [1]. The display will show "64", "76", "87", or "88" to indicate the corresponding range:

  • 64 ~ 108MHz

  • VM Mode: Used for recalling stored stations. Press [VF/VM]. When the station memory preset indicator flashes three times, VM mode is active.

3.4 Using the Radio's Antennas

  • FM / Shortwave (SW): Extend the telescopic antenna and adjust its length and direction for optimal reception. An external antenna can be connected to the [FM & SW ANTENNA] socket (3.5mm).
  • Medium Wave (MW) / Long Wave (LW): The radio uses an internal ferrite bar antenna. Rotate the device to improve reception quality.

Caution:

  • When using outdoor antennas, ensure proper waterproofing and lightning protection.

3.5 Tuning into Stations

Turn on the device, then quick press [FM/ST.], [MW/LW], [<] or [>] (for SW) to select your desired frequency band. You can tune using the following methods:

3.5.1 Manual Tuning

In VF mode, rotate the [TUNING] knob to search for stations. To change the tuning step, quick press [STEP]. A "▼" symbol will be displayed above the frequency.

3.5.2 Auto Scan

3.5.3 Direct Keypad Entry

In VF mode, quick press the numeric keys [0 - 9] to directly enter a frequency.

Tips:

  • For FM band, ignore the decimal point (e.g., enter 974 for 97.4 MHz).
  • If an invalid frequency is entered, "Err" will be displayed.

3.6 SW/SSB Meter Band Selection

Quick press [<] or [>] to change between SW or SSB meter bands:

  4. The display will return to clock time, indicating all frequencies have been deleted.

3.8 Enhanced Tuning Mode (ETM+)

ETM+ allows auto-tuning and storing FM, LW, MW, and SW stations into a separate ETM memory, without overwriting regular memory (VM). This is useful when traveling to different locations.

ETM+ Memory Structure:

  • LW/MW: 6 time-specific memories (e.g., 0609 for 06:00-09:59).
  • SW: 24 time-specific memories (one for each hour, e.g., E09 for 09:00-09:59).

  4. Press and hold [←] (DELETE) until "dEL" is displayed.
  5. Quick press [←] to confirm deletion.

Tips for ETM+:

  • Ensure the radio's clock is set accurately as ETM memories are time-specific.
  • If no ETM scan has been performed for a time-range, that memory will be empty.
  • For LW/MW, adjust the radio's position for better reception due to the directional internal ferrite antenna. Reception is generally better at night.
  • For SW, adjust the whip antenna length or rotate the radio. Try different locations, preferably near a window, to minimize electromagnetic interference (EMI).

3.9 Other Settings and Features

3.9.1 Auto Sorting Memory

With the device off, press and hold [0] until the station memory preset indicator starts running. This feature deletes duplicate stations and sorts stored stations from low to high frequency.

3.9.2 Single Sideband (SSB)

SSB mode can be activated for LW, MW, and SW signals to receive specific transmissions like amateur radio or Morse Code, and to mitigate interference.

  • Enable/Disable: Quick press [LSB] (lower sideband) or [USB] (upper sideband) to enable. Quick press [SSB] to disable.

3.9.3 Synchronous Detection (SYNC)

SYNC detection can reduce noise, eliminate distortion from fading, and suppress interference from adjacent stations, especially for LW, MW, and SW broadcasts.

  • Enable: Press and hold [SSB] (SYNC). "SYNC" will display.
  • Select Sideband: Quick press [LSB] or [USB] for Lower Sideband or Upper Sideband SYNC detection.
  • Disable: Quick press [SSB]. "SYNC" will disappear.

Note:
