Operation Instruction

1. Product Overview

The YIHUA 982D-III and 982D-I are advanced precision soldering stations designed for micro-component rework. These stations feature high-performance soldering irons and tweezers, making them ideal for Surface Mount Technology (SMT) and Surface Mount Device (SMD) applications. Key features include rapid heating, a tiltable display for optimal viewing, automatic temperature calibration, multiple display modes, sleep mode, and customizable temperature presets.

This unit is particularly suitable for users working with small micro components under a microscope or on smaller circuit boards found in devices like smartphones, laptops, drones, and network routers. Please note that this station is NOT suitable for circuits large in size.

4. Setup

4.1 Initial Setup

  1. If your package includes a solder holder, slot it onto the top of the main unit and secure it in place.
  2. Place the soldering iron and tweezers into their respective holders.
  3. Connect the power cord to the station and then to a power socket.
  4. Power on the soldering station using the main power switch.

4.2 Cable Guide Installation

To manage the cables and prevent tangling:

  1. Secure the cable guide to the station.
  2. Pull down the cable tie on the guide.
  3. Insert the cable into the slot of the cable guide.
  4. Pull up the cable tie to securely fasten the cable.

5. Operation

5.1 Changing Heating Element

WARNING: Always ensure the handpiece is completely cooled before replacing the heating element to avoid burn injuries.

  1. Attach the new heating element to the soldering iron.
  2. Place the soldering iron tip into the designated hole on the station.
  3. Apply gentle pressure to secure the heating element in place.
  4. To separate the heating element, slot the soldering iron tip into the V-shaped groove and lift the soldering iron.

CAUTION for First Use: When using the soldering iron for the first time, set the temperature to 250°C (482°F). Once the iron is hot enough to melt solder, coat the tip with a layer of rosin core solder. Then, adjust to your desired working temperature.

5.2 Adjusting Display Tilt

The display can be tilted to achieve a better viewing angle. Press and hold the display tilt angle adjuster, then move the display back or forth to set your preferred angle.

5.3 Temperature Calibration (Automatic)

Temperature discrepancies can occur due to environmental changes or component replacement. Automatic calibration helps maintain accuracy and extends tip lifespan.

  1. Set the temperature to be calibrated (250°C~450°C / 482°F~842°F). Allow the temperature to stabilize.
  2. Lift the calibration groove cover.
  3. Place the tinned soldering iron tip on the sensor, ensuring full contact for 3-5 seconds.
  4. Press and hold the Auto Temp Calibration Button for approximately 2 seconds. The CPU will automatically calibrate the temperature.
  5. Once "Calibration Successful" is displayed and the interface exits, remove the tip and cover the lid.

5.4 Temperature Calibration (Manual)

If automatic calibration is not possible (e.g., temperature below 250°C), manual calibration can be performed:

  1. To calibrate Soldering Iron 1 or 2, press its respective temperature increase/decrease button for 1 second to enter the calibration interface.
  2. Once the station temperature has stabilized, press and hold the temperature increase/decrease button for approximately 2 seconds.
  3. Press the temperature increase or decrease button to input the measured temperature.
  4. Press the function knob to confirm the entry. The system will automatically calibrate and exit the interface.

5.5 Menu Navigation

To access and configure settings:

  1. Press and hold the function button for approximately 2 seconds to enter the menu.
  2. Use the temperature increase/decrease buttons to move the cursor through the options.
  3. Press the function knob to select an option; the selected option will flash.
  4. Use the temperature increase/decrease buttons to configure or enter the option's value.
  5. After configuration, press the function button to return to the main menu.
  6. Press and hold the function button to exit the menu interface. All changes will be automatically saved.

Menu options include: Buzzer, °C/°F unit change, Password, Language, Display Mode, and Stand-by Timer.

5.6 Memory Channels (CH1/CH2/CH3/CH4)

The station features preset memory channels for quick temperature recall:

  1. Press the corresponding preset channel button (CH1, CH2, CH3, or CH4) to select it.
  2. Use the temperature increase/decrease buttons to set the desired temperature for that channel.
  3. The preset temperature configuration will be complete after approximately 4 seconds.

5.7 Menu Password Configuration

The default password is 000. To set a new password:

  1. Navigate to the Password option in the menu.
  2. Use the temperature buttons to move the cursor and configure the numbers for your new password.
  3. Enter the new password twice for double-confirmation.
  4. Selecting the "Cancel" icon will discard changes and return to the main menu.
  5. Once successfully set, the system will automatically save the password and return to the menu interface.

5.8 Sleep Mode and Automatic Stand-by

This function extends the lifespan of the heating element, conserves energy, and protects the environment.

  • Sleep Mode: When the soldering iron is placed back into its holder, it will enter sleep mode. If the set temperature is 200°C (392°F) or higher, the temperature will cool to 200°C/392°F. If the set temperature is below 200°C/392°F, the temperature remains unchanged. Pick up the soldering iron to wake the station.
  • Automatic Stand-by: You can preset a countdown timer (1-10 minutes). After reaching the preset duration during sleep mode, the soldering station will enter full stand-by mode. Pick up the soldering iron to restart the station.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Soldering Tip Care

  • Oxidization Removal: If a layer of oxidization forms on the tip, do not increase the temperature. Instead, gently rub the tip inside a metal wool ball. Apply solder while rubbing until the tip is fully coated. Replace the tip if it is too severely oxidized to clean.
  • Avoid Damage: DO NOT use metal files to remove oxidization. DO NOT apply excessive force to the tip during soldering, as this can damage the tip and hinder heat transfer.
  • Post-Use Care: Always clean the soldering tip after use and tin it with a new layer of solder to prevent future oxidization.

6.2 Residue Tray Cleaning

Clean the residue tray only when the station is disconnected from the power outlet, fully cooled, and the tray is empty.

  1. Remove the solder wire dispenser, cleaning sponge, soldering iron, and heating element from the V-shaped groove.
  2. Place the station sideways and remove the locking screw securing the residue tray (located at the rear).
  3. Remove the tray and clean any residue inside.
  4. Reinstall the residue tray and fasten the locking screw.

6.3 Sensor Replacement

To replace the sensor:

  1. Remove the locking screw to extract the original sensor.
  2. Install the new sensor, ensuring correct polarity.

7. Troubleshooting

"Handpiece Disconnected" Message:
This indicates a fault in the station's sensor module. You may need to replace the heating element (which includes the sensor modules) or ensure that the soldering iron/heating element is properly connected.

8. User Tips

  • For optimal performance, always use high-quality solder and flux appropriate for your application.
  • Regularly clean your soldering tips to ensure efficient heat transfer and prolong their lifespan.
  • Utilize the memory presets to quickly switch between common temperature settings for different components or tasks.
  • Take advantage of the tiltable display to reduce neck strain and improve visibility during prolonged work sessions.
  • When working with very small components, consider using the station with a microscope for enhanced precision.

Warranty service is provided for the following cases:

  1. The item can't power on.
  2. The function can't be operated.
  3. The air gun/soldering iron works abnormally.
  4. The heating element of the air gun/soldering iron is damaged.
  5. The transformer or the fuse holder is damaged.
  6. The order is not in good and has not been refunded.
  7. Ensure the item has not been disassembled and repaired.
  8. The buyer should be responsible for the freight of the replacement of the parts.
