3. Setup Guide

3.1 SIM Card Installation

The ML808G requires a Micro SIM card for network connectivity. Please ensure your SIM card meets the following criteria:

  • It must be a data-only SIM card. SMS and calling functions are not supported by the device.
  • Ensure the SIM card is compatible with 4G LTE Cat1 and 2G GSM/GPRS/EDGE networks in your region.
  • If using a Spionlink SIM card, verify it is supported in your country (e.g., Russian Federation, USA, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, or specific European countries). Spionlink SIM cards typically come with 1MB free data for testing and require top-up for continued use.

To install the SIM card:

  1. Locate the SIM Card Slot (labeled '3' in Figure 3).
  2. Carefully insert the Micro SIM card into the slot with the metal contacts facing down and the notched corner oriented correctly.
  3. Ensure the SIM card is fully seated.

3.2 Charging the Device

The ML808G is equipped with a 3.7V 10000mAh Li-ion battery. Before first use, fully charge the device.

  1. Connect the provided USB charging cable to the USB Port (labeled '7' in Figure 3) on the device.
  2. Connect the other end of the USB cable to a standard USB power adapter (not included).
  3. The Charging LED (labeled '6' in Figure 3) will indicate charging status. A full charge typically takes around 12 hours.

3.3 Power On/Off

The device typically powers on automatically when connected to a charger or when the SIM card is inserted and the battery has sufficient charge. To power off, consult the device's specific power button instructions if available, or allow the battery to deplete.

3.4 App and Web Platform Setup

The MiCODUS ML808G uses a lifetime free web tracking platform and a mobile application for monitoring.

5.2 Battery Maintenance

To prolong the life of the 10000mAh Li-ion battery:

  • Avoid fully discharging the battery frequently.
  • Charge the device regularly, especially if it will be stored for an extended period.
  • Do not expose the device to extreme temperatures (below -20℃ or above 75℃) as this can degrade battery performance.

6. Troubleshooting

Common Issues and Solutions:

  • Device not connecting to network / SIM card not working:
    • Ensure the SIM card is correctly inserted into the Micro SIM slot.
    • Verify that the SIM card is a data-only card and has an active data plan.
    • Check if the SIM card is compatible with 4G LTE Cat1 and 2G GSM/GPRS/EDGE networks in your operating region.
    • If using a Spionlink SIM, confirm your country is supported and that the data plan has been topped up after the initial 1MB free data.
  • No GPS signal or inaccurate location:
    • Ensure the device has a clear view of the sky. Avoid mounting it in enclosed metallic spaces that could block GPS signals.
    • Move the device to an open area to acquire a stronger GPS signal.
  • Device not tracking or updating location:
    • Check the battery level; a low battery can prevent tracking.
    • Verify the selected working mode (Tracking, Power Saving, Hibernation). In Power Saving or Hibernation modes, updates are less frequent.
    • Confirm the SIM card has sufficient data.
  • Cannot log in to the platform/app:
    • Double-check the device ID and password. Remember the default password is 123456 unless a specific password is provided on a label.
    • Ensure your internet connection is stable.
  • Alarms not triggering:
    • Verify that the specific alarm settings (Geo-fence, Overspeed, Movement, etc.) are correctly configured in the app/platform.
    • Ensure SOS contact numbers are correctly entered.

8. User Tips

  • SIM Card Selection: Always confirm your chosen SIM card is data-only and supports the 4G/2G bands required in your country. Many users encounter issues if their SIM card does not meet these specific requirements.
  • Battery Optimization: Utilize the Power Saving or Hibernation modes when continuous real-time tracking is not critical to significantly extend battery life.
  • Optimal Mounting: For best GPS accuracy and signal strength, mount the tracker in a location with minimal obstruction to the sky, even if using magnetic mounting.
  • Alarm Configuration: Take time to set up and test all relevant alarm functions (Geo-fence, Overspeed, Movement, Teardown) to ensure they meet your security needs.
  • Password Management: Change the default password (123456) on the tracking platform/app immediately after initial setup for enhanced security.
