2. Safety Information

WARNING: To avoid possible electric shock or personal injury, and to avoid possible damage to the Meter or to the equipment under test, adhere to the following safety rules:

  • Always ensure the multimeter is set to the correct function and range before making any measurements.
  • Do not apply more than the rated voltage, as marked on the meter, between the terminals or between any terminal and earth ground.
  • Use caution when working with voltages above 30V AC RMS, 42V peak, or 60V DC. Such voltages pose a shock hazard.
  • Always disconnect the test leads from the circuit before changing functions or ranges.
  • Inspect test leads for damaged insulation or exposed metal. Replace if damaged.
  • Do not operate the meter if it appears damaged or if the case is open.
  • Adhere to local and national safety codes. Individual protective equipment should be used to prevent shock and blast injury where hazardous live conductors are exposed.
  • The device is certified with CE, FCC, RoHS, UL, and WEEE, indicating compliance with relevant safety and environmental standards.

4.2. Connecting Test Leads

  1. Insert the black test lead into the 'COM' (common) input jack.
  2. For most measurements (Voltage, Resistance, Diode, Continuity, Temperature), insert the red test lead into the 'VΩHz' or 'VΩmA' input jack.
  3. For current measurements up to 200mA, insert the red test lead into the 'mA' input jack.
  4. For high current measurements (up to 10A), insert the red test lead into the '10A' input jack.

5. Operating Instructions

Before operating, ensure the battery is installed and test leads are correctly connected for the desired measurement. Turn the rotary switch to the desired function and range.

5.1. DC Voltage Measurement (V–)

  1. Set the rotary switch to the desired DC Voltage range (e.g., 200mV, 2V, 20V, 200V, 600V).
  2. Connect the test leads in parallel to the circuit or component to be measured.
  3. Read the voltage value on the display.

5.2. AC Voltage Measurement (V––)

  1. Set the rotary switch to the desired AC Voltage range (e.g., 200V, 600V).
  2. Connect the test leads in parallel to the AC source or component.
  3. Read the voltage value on the display.

5.3. DC/AC Current Measurement (A– / A––)

  1. Turn OFF power to the circuit.
  2. Set the rotary switch to the desired DC or AC Current range (e.g., 200µA, 2mA, 20mA, 200mA, 10A).
  3. Break the circuit and connect the multimeter in series with the circuit.
  4. Apply power to the circuit.
  5. Read the current value on the display.
  6. Turn OFF power before disconnecting the meter and restoring the circuit.

5.4. Resistance Measurement (Ω)

  1. Ensure the circuit is de-energized.
  2. Set the rotary switch to the desired Resistance range (e.g., 200Ω, 2kΩ, 20kΩ, 200kΩ, 2MΩ, 20MΩ).
  3. Connect the test leads across the component to be measured.
  4. Read the resistance value on the display.

Press the backlight button (often indicated by a light bulb icon) to illuminate the display for better visibility in low-light conditions. Press again to turn off.

6. Maintenance

6.1. Cleaning

Wipe the case with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Do not use abrasives or solvents. Keep the terminals free from dirt and moisture.

6.2. Battery Replacement

When the 'Low Battery' indicator appears on the display, replace the 9V battery as described in the 'Battery Installation' section (4.1).

6.3. Fuse Replacement

If the current measurement function stops working, the fuse may need replacement. The meter uses two fuses: a 200mA/250V fast-acting fuse for the mA range and a 10A/250V fast-acting fuse for the 10A range. Refer to the battery installation steps to access the fuse compartment. Always replace with a fuse of the specified type and rating.

7. Troubleshooting

  • No Display/Faint Display: Check battery charge. Replace if low. Ensure battery is installed correctly.
  • Incorrect Readings: Verify the correct function and range are selected. Ensure test leads are properly connected and not damaged. Check for proper circuit connection (series for current, parallel for voltage).
  • Current Measurement Not Working: Check the fuse(s) for the current range. Replace if blown.
  • Continuity Buzzer Not Sounding: Ensure the circuit is de-energized. Check if the resistance is below the continuity threshold.
  • 'OL' or '1' on Display: Indicates over-range. Select a higher range or verify the circuit is not open.
