2. Product Overview
The MECHEN M30 is a high-resolution music player designed for audiophiles, featuring HIFI lossless sound quality with professional DSP audio IC and dual DAC decoding (WM8965 and TPA6530). It boasts a 2.0-inch color screen with a smart and concise UI, a retro scroll wheel for easy navigation, and supports expandable memory up to 256GB.

4. Charging the Player
4.1. Using a 5V, 1000mA Charger
- Plug one end of the USB cable into the USB port of a 5V, 1000mA charger.
- Connect the other end to the Micro USB port on your MECHEN M30 device.
- Once fully charged, disconnect the cable from your device by pulling it straight outward.
4.2. Charging via Computer
- Connect the device to a running computer using the included USB cable.
Note: If the device is not used for a long time, it is recommended to charge the battery at least once every 2 months to maintain battery health.
5. Quick Guide to Basic Operations
5.1. Power On/Off
- To Power On/Off: Long press the power button for 3 seconds.
5.2. Navigation (Back Button)
- Short Press "BACK": Returns to the previous menu.
- Long Press "BACK": Returns to the home menu directly.
5.3. Volume Control
There are two ways to adjust the volume:
- Volume Buttons: Press the "Volume +" button to increase volume, and "Volume -" to decrease volume.
- Scroll Wheel: Rotate the scroll wheel clockwise to increase volume, and counter-clockwise to decrease volume.
5.4. Scroll Wheel Functionality
- In addition to volume control, the scroll wheel can be rotated to browse music tracks or navigate through menus.
5.5. Resetting the Device
- If the device freezes, use a thin needle to gently press the reset hole. Alternatively, hold the power button for 15 seconds to restart the player.
5.6. Data Transfer
- Connect the player to your computer using the supplied USB cable. You can transfer media files by dragging and dropping them into the player's folder, similar to a flash drive.
- Music management software like Windows Media Player can also be used for file transfer (note: it does not work with iTunes).
6. Music Playback
6.1. Music View Sub-menu
- All Songs: Press the MENU button to view all listed music tracks. Select a song and press MENU again for options:
- Last played (if no tracks are playing): Go to the last played song.
- Now Playing (if songs are playing): Go to the currently playing song.
- Play: Play the selected song.
- Add to playlist: Add the song to a playlist.
- Artists: Sort songs by artist.
- Albums: Sort songs by album.
- Genres: Sort songs by genre.
6.2. Playing CUE Files
CUE files appear as a single music track in the Music view, but as a folder in the Folder view.
- Navigate to Music and find the CUE track. Press the MENU button. The player will start playing the 1st track of the CUE.
- Press the MENU button again to display the complete CUE playlist.
- Select the desired track to play.
6.3. Folder View
Folders are displayed in the order they were saved to the MECHEN M30 (earliest saved folder at the top, latest at the bottom).
To sort folders alphabetically, use the tool FATSorter. You can find instructions and download links on the MECHEN YouTube channel.
6.4. Equalizer
Select "Equalizer" from the main menu. Short press MENU to enter the interface. Use the navigation buttons to choose options like Rock, Pop, Soft, Jazz, Classical, Techno, Custom, and Off.
Custom Settings: On the custom interface, press the PLAY/PAUSE button to select the vertical axis. Rotate the scroll wheel clockwise/counter-clockwise to adjust the value. Press MENU to save settings.
Note: This player only supports sound effect adjustment with a sampling rate below 48KHz. Sound effects are generally better with high-level headphones.
7. Play Settings
Access these settings to customize your listening experience.
- Shuffle: When enabled, songs will play in a random order.
- Repeat: Options include Repeat off, Repeat 1 (single song), Repeat all, and Repeat Folder (plays songs in one folder repeatedly, but not across multiple folders).
- Default Volume: The factory default volume is 20. You can set it to "Memory" (remembers the last volume) or "Custom" (remembers the volume you just set).
- Line Level: Selects the audio amplitude for line output. Options include Volume synchronization (line-out audio controlled by volume adjustment), -6dB (fixed), and 0dB (max volume for line output).
- Volume Limit: Set a maximum volume limit to prevent sound from exceeding it.
Note: If you play songs from a playlist, shuffle or repeat only apply to that specific playlist. To exit, go to Music and select a song directly.
8. System Settings
The "Settings" menu allows you to configure various aspects of your player:
- Language: Change the device language.
- Update Playlist: Refresh your music library.
- Brightness: Adjust screen brightness.
- Backlight Timer: Set the duration for the backlight to stay on.
- Sleep Timer: Configure automatic sleep.
- Off Timer: Set automatic power-off.
- Format Device: Format the internal storage (use with caution, this will erase all data).
- Factory Settings: Restore the device to its original factory settings.
8.1. Automatic Firmware Upgrade
To upgrade the firmware:
- Download the latest firmware in HEX format from the official MECHEN website: https://mechen.com.cn/gjsj.
- Save the HEX file directly to the root directory of your MECHEN M30 player.
- Turn on the device, go to "Settings", and select "Auto upgrade".
- Confirm "Yes" to start the upgrade.
- Once the upgrade is complete, the device will turn off automatically.
Attention: Ensure there is only one "MECHEN_M30.HEX" file on the player during the upgrade process, otherwise, the upgrade may fail.
9. Troubleshooting
This section addresses common questions and issues you might encounter.
9.1. Frequently Asked Questions
- Does the player have a resume function?
Yes, the player has a resume function and will continue playing from where it was interrupted, even if the device was turned off. This is useful for audiobooks.
- Is gapless playback supported?
Due to configuration limitations, this device does not support gapless playback.
- Why are not all albums displayed if there are more than 140?
The player can display up to 205 characters for a title. If the title exceeds this limit, it will stop scrolling and not show the complete title. To view the complete music list, please use the Folder view.
- Is the player compatible with iTunes?
No, it is not compatible with iTunes. However, adding songs is easy: simply drag and drop files into the player's folder or insert an SD card with songs.
- Can I delete songs directly from the device, or do I need to connect it to a computer?
You can delete individual songs directly from the player's options. For bulk deletion, you will need to connect the player to a PC.
- Why does the album cover image not appear?
Album covers must be in JPG format and have a pixel size of 640x640. If these conditions are not met, the cover may not display. You can use third-party tools like Kid3 to edit album art.
- How are music files sorted?
Music files are sorted by ASCII code rules: Chinese/Japanese characters first, followed by numbers (0-9), then English letters (A-Z). To sort songs in a specific order, rename the track titles accordingly. Kid3 is a recommended tool for this.
- How are folders sorted?
Folders are sorted by creation time (earliest at the top). To sort alphabetically, use the FAT Sorter tool.
- Why is the sound low when connected to speakers?
Ensure the line level is correctly set. Go to Play Settings > Line Level. Adjust it to -6dB or 0dB for optimal amplifier audio output.
- The player does not have Bluetooth or WIFI functions.
This player is designed exclusively for music playback and does not include Bluetooth or WIFI connectivity.
- Player accessories do not include headphones.
It is recommended to use professional high-definition headphones to fully experience the sound quality.
- The player does not support DTS 5.1 multi-channel movies.
The device is not compatible with DTS 5.1 multi-channel audio formats.
