6. Maintenance and Care

  • Clean the radio surface with a soft, lint-free cloth.
  • For stubborn dirt, use a cloth dampened with mild soap and water.
  • Do not use harsh chemicals, solvents, or abrasive cleaners.
  • Ensure the radio is dry before use.

6.2. Battery Care

  • Charge the battery fully before initial use.
  • Avoid overcharging or completely draining the battery frequently to prolong its lifespan.
  • Store the battery in a cool, dry place when not in use.
  • Do not expose the battery to extreme temperatures or direct sunlight.
  • As noted on the battery, never attempt to disassemble or modify the battery. Do not dispose of it in fire.

6.3. Environmental Considerations

The BD558 is designed to be robust with MIL-STD-810 G and IP55 compliance, meaning it offers protection against dust and low-pressure water jets. However, avoid submerging the radio in water or exposing it to excessive dust or extreme temperatures.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your radio, try the following basic troubleshooting steps:

  • Radio does not power on: Ensure the battery is correctly installed and fully charged.
  • Cannot transmit or receive: Check if the radio is on the correct channel and within range of other radios. Verify the PTT button is functioning.
  • Poor audio quality: Adjust the volume. Check for obstructions on the speaker or microphone. Ensure the antenna is securely attached.
  • Battery life is short: Ensure the battery is fully charged. Battery performance can degrade over time; consider replacing an old battery.
