1. Introduction

The AP588 is a high-power, commercial-grade walkie-talkie designed for reliable communication in various environments, including hotels, civil services, water conservancy, ports, electricity, hospitals, shopping malls, and railways. It features a robust design, clear audio, and extended communication range.

3. Product Overview

4. Setup

4.1 Attaching the Antenna

Screw the antenna clockwise into the connector on the top of the radio until it is firmly seated. Do not overtighten.

4.2 Installing the Battery

  1. Align the battery with the battery compartment on the back of the radio.
  2. Press the battery firmly into place until it clicks, indicating it is securely locked.

4.3 Charging the Battery

Before initial use, fully charge the battery. The AP588 supports fast charging, reaching 0-100% in approximately 1.8 hours.

  1. Connect the desktop charger to a power outlet using the appropriate plug standard (EU, UK, or US).
  2. Place the radio with the battery installed into the charger base (CH10A07).
  3. The charging indicator on the radio or charger will show the charging status (e.g., red for charging, green for fully charged).
  4. Alternatively, the radio supports Type-C charging directly. Connect a Type-C cable to the radio's charging port and a compatible power source.

4.4 Attaching the Belt Clip

Align the belt clip with the designated slots on the back of the radio and slide it down until it locks into place.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Power On/Off

Rotate the Power/Volume knob clockwise to turn the radio on. Rotate it counter-clockwise until a click is heard to turn the radio off.

5.2 Adjusting Volume

Rotate the Power/Volume knob to adjust the listening volume.

5.3 Selecting a Channel

Use the Channel Selector knob or the keypad to select one of the 128 available channels. The display will show the current channel information.

5.4 Transmitting and Receiving

  1. To transmit, press and hold the Push-to-Talk (PTT) button on the side of the radio. Speak clearly into the microphone.
  2. Release the PTT button to receive.

5.5 Key Features

  • Auto Scan & Vote Scan: Automatically scans for active channels or selects the strongest signal.
  • Priority Channel Hunt: Monitors a designated priority channel while scanning other channels.
  • Squelch: Eliminates background noise when no signal is present.
  • H/L Power Switching: Allows switching between high and low transmit power to conserve battery or extend range.
  • Voice Announcement: Provides audible feedback for channel changes or other functions.
  • CTCSS/CDCSS: Continuous Tone-Coded Squelch System / Continuous Digital-Coded Squelch System for filtering unwanted calls.
  • Talk Around: Enables direct radio-to-radio communication, bypassing repeaters.
  • Timeout Timer: Limits transmission duration to prevent accidental long transmissions.
  • Bluetooth (Optional): For wireless audio accessories.

6. Maintenance

6.1 General Care

  • Keep the radio dry. If it gets wet, wipe it immediately.
  • Do not expose the radio to extreme temperatures.
  • Avoid dropping or subjecting the radio to severe impacts.
  • Clean the radio's exterior with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or solvents.

6.2 Battery Care

  • Charge the battery only with the specified Hytera charger.
  • Do not short-circuit the battery terminals.
  • Do not dispose of batteries in fire.
  • If the radio will not be used for an extended period, remove the battery.
