7. Calibration

Regular calibration is essential for maintaining the accuracy of your water quality tester. The PH-W218 features dedicated calibration buttons for PH, ORP, and PPM/EC/SALT/S.G./CF.

  1. Prepare Calibration Solutions: Obtain appropriate calibration buffer solutions for the parameters you wish to calibrate (e.g., pH 4.00, 6.86, 9.18 for pH; specific EC/TDS solutions). These solutions are typically not included and must be purchased separately.
  2. PH Calibration: Long press the 'TEMP CAL' button (under the PH/TEMP display) to enter PH calibration mode. Follow the on-screen instructions or refer to the detailed user manual for the specific calibration steps using your pH buffer solutions.
  3. ORP Calibration: Press the 'CAL' button under the ORP display to initiate ORP calibration. Use a known ORP standard solution as per the detailed user manual.
  4. PPM/EC/SALT/S.G./CF Calibration: Press the 'CAL' button under the PPM/EC/SALT/S.G./CF display to initiate calibration for these parameters. Use appropriate standard solutions for EC/TDS/SALT as per the detailed user manual.
  5. Rinse Probes: Always rinse the probes with distilled water before and after calibration to prevent contamination.

Note: Calibration solutions are crucial for accurate readings and are typically not included with the device. Please acquire them separately if needed.

8. Maintenance

  • Keep Dry: The main unit is NOT waterproof. Do not expose the tester to water or damp conditions. Water ingress can cause malfunction.
  • Clean Probes: Regularly clean the probes with distilled water to remove any residue or buildup that could affect accuracy. For stubborn deposits, use a soft brush or a mild cleaning solution specifically designed for probes, then rinse thoroughly.
  • Store Probes Properly: When not in use, ensure pH and ORP probes are stored in their protective caps with a small amount of storage solution (or pH 4 buffer if storage solution is unavailable) to prevent them from drying out. Other probes can be stored dry.
  • Check Connections: Periodically check all probe connections and the power adapter for any signs of wear or damage.
  • Software Updates: Keep the Tuya Smart app updated to the latest version for optimal performance and new features.

9. Troubleshooting

Q: Device not connecting to WiFi / App not finding device.
A: Ensure the device is in pairing mode (WiFi indicator blinking after long pressing 'MODE' button). Check that your smartphone and the tester are both connected to a 2.4GHz WiFi network. Verify your WiFi password. Try restarting both the tester and your router.
Q: Readings are inaccurate or fluctuating.
A: This often indicates that the probes need cleaning or calibration. Refer to the 'Maintenance' and 'Calibration' sections. Ensure probes are fully submerged and there are no air bubbles around them. Check for any damage to the probe tips.
Q: Cannot export data to email.
A: Ensure your device has a stable internet connection. Check your email's spam/junk folder. Verify that the email address entered in the app is correct. Note that there might be limits on the number of data exports per day/week/month (e.g., 55 sets of data within 24 hours, 30 sets of Days, Weeks or Month, and 25 sets of Hour).
Q: Device displays '0000' or '---' for a parameter.
A: This could mean the probe for that parameter is not connected correctly, is faulty, or the measurement is out of range. Check the probe connection and ensure it's properly immersed. If the issue persists, the probe may need replacement.

10. User Tips

  • Regular Calibration: Calibrate your probes frequently, especially pH and ORP, to ensure the most accurate readings. The accuracy of your measurements directly depends on proper calibration.
  • Probe Care: Always keep pH and ORP probes moist when not in use to prolong their lifespan. Never let them dry out completely.
  • Data Analysis: Utilize the app's data logging and export features to track trends in your water quality over time. This can help identify potential issues before they become critical.
  • Environmental Awareness: Remember the main unit is not waterproof. Protect it from splashes and high humidity to prevent damage.
