4. Setup
4.1 Connecting the ESC
Connect the ESC to your motor, receiver, and battery according to your RC model's specific wiring diagram. Ensure all connections are firm and correctly polarized.
4.2 Connecting the LED Program Box to Different ESCs
The method for connecting the LED Program Box varies depending on your ESC type. Refer to the following guidelines:
- For ESC with multiplexed throttle and programming cable: Plug the ESC throttle cable into the port marked with " " on your program box.
- For ESC without built-in BEC (OPTO version): Plug the ESC throttle cable into the port marked with " " AND connect an extra battery (4.8-8.4V) to the port marked with " " on your program box to power it.
- For ESC where the fan port is also the programming port: Plug one end of the programming cable (included in the product box) into the fan port on your ESC, and the other end into the programming port marked with " " on your program box.
- For ESC with a separate programming cable (with output voltage of 4.8-8.4V): Plug the programming cable into the port marked with " " on your program box.
- For ESC with a separate programming cable (no output voltage): Plug the programming cable into the port marked with " " AND connect an extra battery (4.8-8.4V) to the port marked with " " on your program box.
- For ESC with a dedicated separate programming port: Plug one end of the programming cable (included in the product box) into the programming port on your ESC, and the other end into the port marked with " " on your program box.
Note: The extra battery mentioned in points 2 and 5 can be replaced by an UBEC.
4.3 How to Make the LED Program Box Work
After making all necessary connections, connect a battery to your ESC and power it on. The LED Program Box should display the current settings of your ESC within a few seconds. If no information is displayed, check that the programming cable and any external power source (battery/UBEC) are correctly connected and not reversely plugged in. If issues persist, disconnect the battery, wait 2 seconds, then reconnect it to your ESC. The program box may take a few seconds to display information.
5. Programming
5.1 LED Program Card Functions

6. Operation
The Skywalker 120A V2 ESC is designed for smooth and responsive control of your brushless motor. Once properly installed and programmed, it provides reliable power delivery for your RC model.
6.1 DEO Technology / Active Freewheeling
Drive Efficiency Optimization (DEO) Technology provides precise control, fast and smooth throttle response, improved stability, and increased efficiency, leading to lower ESC operational temperatures and longer flight times. For 3D extreme flying, it is recommended to turn off this function.
6.2 Reverse Brake
The ESC supports reverse brake and linear brake modes, which can significantly shorten landing distances. Normal and no brake modes are also available, offering flexibility for different flying styles and aircraft types. This feature is a registered patent of HOBBYWING.
7. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Keep the ESC and program box clean and free from dust, dirt, and moisture. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning.
- Inspection: Regularly inspect all wires and connectors for signs of wear, damage, or corrosion. Replace any damaged components immediately.
- Storage: Store the ESC and program box in a cool, dry environment when not in use. Avoid extreme temperatures and direct sunlight.
- Firmware: Firmware upgrades are not supported for this model.
8. Troubleshooting
- Program Box Not Displaying: If the LED Program Box does not display any information after connecting, ensure all programming cables and external power sources (if used) are securely connected and correctly oriented. Disconnect and reconnect the battery after a few seconds if the issue persists.
- Unexpected ESC Behavior: The ESC features multiple protections. If the ESC stops or behaves unexpectedly, check for:
- Low Battery Voltage: Ensure your battery is adequately charged and the LiPo cell count is correctly set in the ESC programming.
- Throttle Signal Loss: Verify your receiver and transmitter connections and functionality.
- Abnormal Input Voltage: Check the battery voltage and connections to ensure they are within the ESC's specified input range (3-8S LiPo).
- ESC Thermal Protection: If the ESC becomes excessively hot, it may enter thermal protection mode. Allow it to cool down and ensure adequate airflow in your model.
9. User Tips
- The Skywalker 120A V2 ESC is known for its efficient operation and does not typically run hot, unlike some other ESCs. This indicates good thermal management.
- Consider using the Search Mode feature if you frequently fly in areas where your RC craft might be difficult to locate after a crash or unexpected landing.
- For 3D extreme flying, it is recommended to turn off DEO Technology / Active Freewheeling for optimal control.
