4.2 Vehicle Identification (Auto VIN Scan)
The D5S supports quick vehicle identification through several methods:
- Auto VIN Scan: The device attempts to automatically read the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) from the vehicle's ECU. This shortens the navigation process by identifying the make, model, and year.
- Manual VIN Input: If Auto VIN fails, you can manually enter the 17-digit VIN.
- Automatic Selection: After selecting the vehicle manufacturer, the system may offer automatic model selection.
- Manual Selection: If VIN retrieval is not possible, you can manually select the vehicle details (make, model, year).

4.3 5 System Diagnostics
The D5S can diagnose the following main systems:
- Engine System (ECM): Read and clear engine fault codes, view live data.
- Transmission System (TCM): Diagnose transmission issues, view live data.
- Anti-lock Braking System (ABS): Read and clear ABS DTCs, turn off ABS warning lights, check wheel speed data.
- Supplemental Restraint System (SRS/Airbag): Diagnose airbag system faults, read and clear codes.
- Electronic Parking Brake (EPB): Diagnose EPB system, perform brake pad reset.
To perform a system diagnostic:
- From the main menu, select "Diagnosis".
- Choose the vehicle manufacturer and model (or use Auto VIN).
- Select the desired system (e.g., "Engine System").
- You can then choose to "Read Fault Codes", "Clear Fault Codes", "Read Live Data", or "Read ECU Information".

5.2 General Care
- Keep the device clean and free from dust and moisture.
- Avoid dropping the device or exposing it to extreme temperatures.
- Use only the provided charging cable and accessories.
- Store the device in a safe place when not in use.
6. Troubleshooting
6.1 Common Issues & Solutions
- Device not powering on: Ensure the battery is charged. If not, connect the charging cable and allow it to charge for a period before attempting to power on again.
- Connection issues with vehicle: Verify the diagnostic cable is securely connected to both the D5S and the vehicle's OBDII port. Ensure the vehicle's ignition is in the 'ON' position.
- Auto VIN Scan fails: If the device cannot automatically retrieve the VIN, it might be due to the car being too new/old for the VIN database, or the VIN is not a standard 17-digit format. In such cases, manually input the VIN or select the vehicle details. Contact XTOOL support with your car's VIN and device S/N for potential database updates.
- Software update failures: Check your Wi-Fi connection stability. Ensure there is sufficient storage space on the device.
- Specific function not working for a vehicle: Not all functions are universally compatible with all vehicle models. Always check the detailed car list on the XTOOL website (https://www.xtooltech.com/english/FunctionQuery.html) for compatibility before attempting advanced functions.

9. User Tips
- Check Vehicle Compatibility: Before purchasing or attempting specific functions, always verify your vehicle's compatibility with the XTOOL D5S on the official XTOOL website (https://www.xtooltech.com/english/FunctionQuery.html). This helps ensure the tool supports your car's make, model, and year for the desired diagnostic or service function.
- Keep Software Updated: Regularly update your D5S software via Wi-Fi. This ensures you have the latest vehicle coverage, bug fixes, and access to newly added features, maximizing the tool's effectiveness.
- Understand Auto VIN Limitations: While Auto VIN is convenient, be aware that it might not work for all vehicles, especially very new or very old models, or if the VIN is non-standard. In such cases, manual input or selection is necessary.
- Utilize Live Data Graphing: For complex diagnostics, use the 4-in-1 live data graphing feature. Visualizing multiple parameters simultaneously can help identify intermittent issues or correlations between different sensor readings more effectively than just viewing numerical data.
