  • Keep the device away from flammable materials.

3. Setup and Connection

3.1 Power Supply Selection

The performance of the spot welder is highly dependent on the power supply. Choose one of the following recommended power sources:

  • 12V Lead-acid Battery: Capacity required is 20-40AH. If using a battery larger than 45AH, consult customer service for current limiting methods, as direct connection may damage the MOS.
  • Model Aircraft Battery: Requires 3S-4S, with a capacity (AH) and discharge rate (60C is the discharge rate of 60) product in the range of 100-300A.
  • Car Starter Battery: Requires 12V, EC5 interface, with a peak current not exceeding 300A.

Forbidden Power Supplies: Do NOT use switching power supplies, transformers, chargers, water batteries, or charging banks for power supply. These will damage the spot welder control circuit.

Recommended Power Supplies for the spot welder: Lithium Battery Pack, Car Starter Battery, Model Airplane Battery, Lead Acid Battery
Figure 2: Recommended Power Supplies.

3.2 Current Limiting Method (for high capacity lead-acid batteries)

If using a lead-acid battery over 45AH, or if spot welding strength is insufficient, you may need to implement current limiting:

  1. Prepare a 1.5 square millimeter wire, 1 meter in length.
  2. Connect one end of the wire to the positive electrode of the battery.
  3. Connect the other end of the wire to the input positive electrode of the welder's control board.
  4. Gradually reduce the length of this wire (e.g., 1m → 0.75m → 0.5m → 0.3m) and test patiently. Do not skip steps.
  5. The goal is to achieve firm welding at around gear 30. This length will be the appropriate current limit.

3.3 Wiring Diagrams

Ensure correct polarity and connections as shown in the diagrams below. Incorrect wiring can damage the device.

Figure 3: Connection modes for Lead-acid battery and Car starter/lithium battery pack (EC5 port).
  • Lead-acid battery connection: Connect the input cathode to the battery negative terminal and the input anode to the battery positive terminal. Output cathode connects to the black soldering pen, output anode connects to the red soldering pen.
  • Car starter/lithium battery pack (EC5 port) connection: Input cathode connects to the EC5 black wire, input anode connects to the EC5 red wire. Output cathode connects to the black soldering pen, output anode connects to the red soldering pen.

4.2 Basic Usage

  1. Mode Switching: Short press the Mode key (3) to switch between 'd' (gear display) and 'r' (downshift display).
  2. Display Mode Selection: Long press the Mode key (3) for 1 second to cycle through display modes: gear display, temperature display, and voltage display.
  3. Power On/Off: Long press the Mode key (3) for 2 seconds to shut down the machine. Long press for 2 seconds again to restart.
  4. Gear Adjustment:
    • If 'd10' (gear 10) is displayed, press the Add key (3) to increase the gear.
    • If 'r10' (downshift 10) is displayed, press the Minus key (4) to lower the gear.
    • Gears increase successively from 0 to 99. Do not attempt to overstep gears (e.g., directly from 0 to 30) as this can easily burn the board. Adjust gradually.

4.3 Spot Welding Technique

For effective spot welding, ensure the surface of the nickel strip and battery are flat and fit well without any gaps. Hold the welding pen slightly inclined, apply gentle contact without excessive force. The control board detects the pen contact 0.5 seconds after triggering the weld. If the melt pool is too small on a lower gear, increase the gear setting.

4.4 Display Working Modes

The digital display can show four different working modes:

Four display working modes: Increase gear (d10), Battery voltage (v12), Downshift (r10), MOS temperature (C29)

  • Increase gear display (dXX): Shows the current power gear setting.
  • Battery voltage display (vXX): Shows the real-time battery voltage.
  • Downshift display (rXX): Shows the downshift setting.
  • MOS temperature display (CXX): Shows the real-time MOS tube temperature.

5. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your spot welder, follow these general maintenance guidelines:

  • Keep the device clean and free from dust and debris.
  • Store in a dry environment, away from moisture and extreme temperatures.
  • Regularly inspect the welding pens and wires for any signs of wear or damage. Replace if necessary.
  • Ensure all connections are secure before each use.

6. Troubleshooting

Error Codes and Solutions

  • 'CE' Alarm Code: Indicates MOS tube temperature exceeds 45℃. Allow the device to cool down before further operation. Ensure adequate ventilation.
  • 'UE' Alarm Code: Indicates the input voltage is not within the safe range of 8-17V. Check your power supply to ensure it provides the correct voltage.

Common Issues

  • Weak Spot Welds: If welds are not strong enough, gradually increase the gear setting. If using a high-capacity lead-acid battery, review the current limiting method in Section 3.2.
  • Device Not Powering On: Verify the power supply is correctly connected and within the specified voltage range (8-17V). Check for loose connections.

8. User Tips

  • Power Supply Compatibility: While the manual specifies 12V, some users have successfully used 11.1V 3S1P 50C LiPo batteries. Ensure your power source meets the current delivery requirements (100-300A working current, 1500A peak). Avoid 24V as it may exceed the voltage protection range.
  • AC to DC Conversion: If using a 110VAC outlet, a converter to 12-17VDC is required. The converter should be capable of supplying sufficient amperage, ideally matching or exceeding the welder's working current (100-300A) and peak current (1500A MAX) to prevent damage or poor performance.
  • Welding Thick Materials: The welder is designed for 0.1-0.3mm nickel sheets. Welding thicker materials like 1mm copper or 1mm nickel strips (2mm total) may exceed the device's capabilities and is not recommended.
  • Wire Gauge: The kit includes 10AWG wires for the welding pens, which are suitable for high current. If replacing, ensure the new wires are of similar or thicker gauge.

9. Warranty and Support

Warranty Principle

  • The product is covered by a 90-day warranty service from the purchase date for failures within the warranty scope, confirmed by after-sales inspection.
