To avoid body injury and damage to the device or your car, please read this manual carefully before using VD700.
The testing process described in the manual is generally the experience of a technician. Safety precaution is required in most of the process to avoid body injury and damage to the device or your car. Read the vehicle maintenance manual before use this device and follow safety precautions.
- It generates CO and other poisonous air when the engine is running. To avoid this kind of hurt, please repair the car in a well-air-ventilated place.
- When the engine is running, many parts (such as the coolant fan, pulleys, fan belt etc.) rotate at high speed. To avoid serious injury, always be aware of moving parts. Keep a safe distance from these parts as well as other potentially moving objects.
- Engine parts become very hot when the engine is running. Don't touch hot engine parts to avoid severe burns.
- Fuel and battery vapors are highly flammable. To prevent an explosion, keep all sparks, heated items and open flames away from the battery and fuel/fuel vapors. Do not smoke near the vehicle during testing.
2. Product Overview
The ANCEL VD700 is a powerful handheld OBD2/EOBD full system diagnostic scanner specifically designed for 12V 16-pin VAG vehicles (VW, Audi, Skoda, Crafter, Seat, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Bentley) and also supports general OBD2/EOBD functions for most 1996 and newer vehicles.

3. Setup and Connection
3.1. Connecting the VD700
- Turn the vehicle's ignition ON.
- Locate the vehicle's 16-pin Data Link Connector (DLC). This port is usually located under the dashboard on the driver's side.
- Connect the VD700's OBD-16PIN connector to the vehicle's DLC. The device will power on automatically.

3.2. Software Update
The VD700 offers lifetime free software updates to ensure compatibility with the latest vehicles and to incorporate new functions. The update software is supported on Windows 7/8/10.

- Download the update software from the official ANCEL website.
- Connect the VD700 device to your computer through a USB cable.
- If your computer system is Windows 7, click "install driver.bat" in the driver files to install the necessary driver.
- Run the "Update.exe" file. For Windows 8/10, you can run the update software directly.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update process.
4. Operating Instructions
4.1. Device Layout and Buttons

- [OK] BUTTON: Confirms a selection or action from a menu.
- [ESC] BUTTON: Cancels a selection or action from a menu or returns to the previous menu.
- [LEFT] SCROLL BUTTON: In menu mode, moves left through menus/sub-menus. In data interface, moves to the last screen.
- [RIGHT] SCROLL BUTTON: In menu mode, moves right through menus/sub-menus. In data interface, moves to the next screen.
- [UP] SCROLL BUTTON: In menu mode, moves up through menus/sub-menus. When retrieving data, moves up to the previous screen.
- [DOWN] SCROLL BUTTON: In menu mode, moves down through menus/sub-menus. When retrieving data, moves down to the next screen.
- OBD-16PIN CONNECTOR: Connects the scan tool to the vehicle's Data Link Connector (DLC).
- [I/M] BUTTON: Quick State Emissions readiness check and drive cycle verification.
- [READ DTC] BUTTON: Quickly reads the vehicle's fault codes.
4.2. VAG Vehicle Specific Functions
The operation may vary depending on the vehicle model and year. The following instructions are for reference only.
4.2.1. System Selection
From the main menu, choose [For VW] and then select [Vehicle Scan] or [System Selection].
- [System Scan]: Used to check faulty systems and display the number of faults.
- [Manual Select]: Used to scan all supported systems.
Once a system is selected (e.g., 0017-Dash Board), you can choose from various functions:
- 01-Version Information: Displays protocol type, part number, VIN, and system description.
- 02-Read Fault Codes: Reads current fault codes.
- 03-Erase Fault Codes: Clears fault codes.
- 04-Read Datastream: Views live data.
- 05-Basic Setting: Performs basic settings (e.g., throttle learning).
- 07-Adaptation: Performs adaptations (e.g., tank characteristics, service reminders, language).
- 08-Access Authorization: For functions requiring a login code.
4.2.2. Special Functions
The VD700 offers several special reset functions for VAG vehicles:

- TPA Throttle Position Adaptation: Resets the throttle position sensor.
- EPB Brake Pad Reset: Essential for releasing the rear electric parking brake unit when replacing pads or discs.
- SAS Steering Angle Reset: Calibrates the steering angle sensor.
- TPMS Reset: Clears codes and turns off the TPMS warning light after tire replacement.
- DPF Reset: Performs forced regeneration, turns off DPF light, and resets ECU after filter replacement.
- Battery Matching (BMS Reset): Registers a new battery after replacement to ensure proper charging.
- Injector Coding: Writes new injector codes to the ECU after injector replacement.
4.2.2.1. EPB Reset (Electrical Park Brake)
This function is required to release the rear electric parking brake unit when replacing rear pads or discs. It can also clear codes and turn off the EPB light.
- From the Special Functions menu, choose [EPB reset] and press [OK].
- The screen will prompt: "1. Please turn the ignition ON with engine OFF. 2. Release the handbrake." Follow these instructions.
- Choose [EPB ReplaceBrakePads] and press [OK].
- The device will retract the brake pump. Follow any on-screen operation tips.
- After the brake pump is fully retracted, replace the brake pads.
- Once pads are replaced, choose [Release Brake Pump] and press [OK] to release the brake pump.
- Verify that the brake pump is completely released. Press [OK] to complete the process.

4.2.2.2. Battery Registration (BMS Reset)
Registering a new battery is crucial after replacement to ensure proper charging and prevent issues.
- From the Special Functions menu, choose [BMS reset] and press [OK].
- The screen will display old battery parameters. It is recommended to record these parameters.
- Choose the new battery's capacity and manufacturer from the list. If the manufacturer is not listed, select "Others".
- Press [OK] to confirm and complete the battery registration.

4.2.2.3. Oil Service Reset
This function allows you to reset the oil service light after an oil change or vehicle inspection.

4.3. OBDII Diagnosis (for most 1996 and newer vehicles)
The VD700 supports standard OBDII/EOBD functions for general vehicle diagnostics.

4.3.1. Read Codes
- Use the UP/DOWN scroll button to select [Read Codes] from the Diagnostic Menu and press [OK].
- If no Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) are stored, the display will indicate "No (pending) codes are stored in the module!".
- View DTCs and their definitions on screen. The control module number, sequence of DTCs, total number of codes, and type of codes (Generic or Manufacturer specific) will be displayed.
4.3.2. Erase Codes
- Use the UP/DOWN scroll buttons to select [Erase Codes] from the Diagnostic Menu and press [OK].
- A warning message will appear asking for your confirmation. Press [OK] to confirm.
- The device will prompt you to turn the ignition ON with the engine OFF. Follow the instructions and press [OK].
- The display will confirm that "Emission-Related Diagnostic Information has been cleared!".
4.3.3. I/M Readiness
I/M Readiness indicates whether or not the various emissions-related systems on the vehicle are operating properly and are ready for Inspection and Maintenance testing.
4.3.4. Data Stream
The VD700 allows you to view "real-time" Live Data, including values (volts, rpm, temperature, speed, etc.) and system status information (open loop, closed loop, fuel system status, etc.) generated by various vehicle sensors, switches, and actuators.
4.3.5. Evap Leak Test
This function enables the conditions required to conduct an evaporative system leak test, but does not actually run the test. The vehicle manufacturer is responsible for determining the criteria to automatically stop the test. Consult your vehicle's service repair manual for necessary procedures before performing this function.
4.3.6. Vehicle Information
Select [Vehicle Information] and press [OK] to display information such as VIN (Vehicle Identification Number), CID (Calibration ID), and CVN (Calibration Verification Number).
4.4. Tool Setup
The Tool Setup menu allows you to customize the device settings.
- Language: Select from English, French, Spanish, German, Russian, Swedish, Portuguese, Finnish, Norwegian, Danish.
- Beeper: Turn the device's beeper sound ON or OFF.
- Instructions: Enable or disable instructions display at startup.
- Unit of Measure: Choose between Metric or Imperial units.
- Skin Style: Select between "Sky Gray" or "Gem Blue" UI themes.
- Feedback: Use this function if the OBDII function shows a connected error. It records data for troubleshooting. After recording, connect the device to a computer via USB to transfer the feedback file.
- Device Information: Displays software version, library version, and serial number.

- Battery Registration: When replacing a car battery, remember to register the new battery using the VD700 to ensure proper charging and system function.

- Software Updates: Regularly update the software to ensure the latest vehicle compatibility and bug fixes. Updates are free for life and can be done via a computer.

6. Troubleshooting
- Device Does Not Power On: Ensure the device is correctly connected to the vehicle's DLC port and the vehicle's ignition is ON.
- Communication Errors: Verify the vehicle's ignition is on and the connection between the VD700 and the DLC is secure. Try restarting the device and the vehicle.
- Software Update Failure: Ensure a stable internet connection during the update process. For Windows 7 users, confirm that the necessary drivers are correctly installed.
- Specific Error Codes or Function Issues: Refer to the relevant section in this manual for detailed instructions. If the issue persists, consult your vehicle's service manual or contact ANCEL support.

8. Warranty and Support
8.1. Limited One Year Warranty
This warranty is expressly limited to persons who purchase ANCEL products for purposes of resale or use in the ordinary course of the buyer's business. ANCEL code reader is warranted against defects in materials and workmanship for one year (12 months) from the date of delivery to the user. This warranty does not cover any part that has been abused, altered, used for a purpose other than for which it was intended, or used in a manner inconsistent with instructions regarding use. The exclusive remedy for any automotive meter found to be defective is repair or replacement, and ANCEL shall not be liable for any consequential or incidental damages.
