5. Setup Instructions

The Hagibis USB-C Docking Station is designed for plug-and-play functionality, generally requiring no additional software installation for basic use. However, specific operating system settings may be required for multi-monitor configurations.

5.1 Connecting the Docking Station

  1. Connect the provided USB-C cable(s) from the docking station to the USB-C port(s) on your host device (laptop, tablet, etc.).
  2. For models U100 Pro and U100 Ultra, USB-C(A) is the main dock interface controlling all ports except the right HDMI-compatible port. USB-C(B) controls only the right HDMI-compatible interface. For dual external screens, connect both USB-C(A) and USB-C(B) to your computer.
  3. Ensure your host device's USB-C port supports video output (DisplayPort Alternate Mode) and Power Delivery if you intend to use these features.
  4. Connect your peripherals (monitors, keyboard, mouse, Ethernet cable, etc.) to the corresponding ports on the docking station.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 General Operation

Once connected, your operating system should automatically detect the docking station and connected peripherals. You can then use the connected devices as usual.

6.2 Multi-Screen Extension Guide

The docking station supports extending your display to external monitors at 4K@60Hz. You can configure your display settings in your operating system to use Mirror Mode (duplicate your primary screen) or Extended Mode (expand your desktop across multiple screens).

  • Mirror Mode: Displays the same content on all connected screens.
  • Extended Mode: Extends your desktop, allowing you to have different content on each screen.

Important Note for Apple M1 Chip Users:

  • Apple M1 chip (standard) does not support multi-screen extension; it can only expand to one external screen.
  • Apple M1 Pro and M1 Max chips are not subject to this limitation and support multi-screen extension.

6.3 M.2 SSD Enclosure Installation

The docking station features an M.2 enclosure for expanding your storage. It is compatible with both M.2 NVMe and M.2 SATA hard disks.

  1. Locate the M.2 enclosure slot on the side of the docking station.
  2. Carefully open the enclosure cover.
  3. Insert your M.2 NVMe or M.2 SATA SSD into the slot, ensuring it aligns with the M key or B&M key interface.
  4. Secure the SSD with the provided screw (if applicable).
  5. Close the enclosure cover.
  6. The LED strip light will pulsate regularly when the hard disk transfers files in Memory Mode.

7. Troubleshooting

  • No Display Output:
    • Ensure your host device's USB-C port supports DisplayPort Alternate Mode.
    • Check all cable connections (USB-C to host, HDMI/DP to monitor).
    • Verify monitor input settings are correct.
    • If using an Apple M1 chip (standard), remember it only supports one external display.
  • No Network Connection:
    • Ensure the Ethernet cable is securely connected to both the docking station and your router/modem.
    • Check your computer's network settings.
    • Restart your router/modem and computer.
  • USB Devices Not Recognized:
    • Try connecting the USB device directly to your computer to confirm it's functional.
    • Ensure the docking station is properly powered.
    • Try a different USB port on the docking station.
  • M.2 SSD Not Detected:
    • Ensure the M.2 SSD is correctly installed and secured in the enclosure.
    • Check if the SSD is properly formatted and initialized in your operating system's Disk Management (Windows) or Disk Utility (macOS).
    • Verify the SSD is compatible (NVMe or SATA).
  • Slow Data Transfer Speeds:
    • Ensure you are using USB 3.0 or USB 3.1 ports for high-speed devices.
    • The actual speed may vary depending on your host device, SSD type, and file size. (Refer to Figure 11 for measured data).
