5. Setup

5.1 Battery Installation

The HYTAIS TS58 requires 8 AA batteries (not included). To install:

  1. Locate the battery compartment on the back of the device.
  2. Open the battery cover.
  3. Insert 8 AA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  4. Close the battery cover securely.

5.2 Connecting Test Leads

Connect the test leads to the appropriate input terminals on the device. For most measurements, the red lead connects to the 'L' or 'AC/DC 600V' terminal, and the black lead connects to the 'G' or 'E' terminal, depending on the specific test.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Power On/Off

Press the red power button to turn the device on. Press and hold the power button to turn it off. The device features automatic shut-down to conserve battery life.

6.2 AC/DC Voltage Test

To measure AC or DC voltage:

  1. Ensure the device is in the standby interface.
  2. Short press the SELECT button to enter the AC Voltage function.
  3. Press the SELECT button again to switch to the DC Voltage function.
  4. Connect the test leads to the circuit to be measured.
  5. Read the voltage value on the display.

6.3 Insulation Resistance Test

To perform an insulation resistance test:

  1. Connect the test leads to the circuit or component under test.
  2. Press and hold the TEST button for approximately 1 second.
  3. The device will apply the test voltage and display the insulation resistance.
  4. Release the TEST button to stop the measurement.

6.4 Data Hold (HOLD*)

Press the HOLD* button to freeze the current reading on the display. Press it again to release the hold function.

6.5 Data Storage (MEM READ)

The device can store up to 100 sets of data. Use the MEM READ button to access and review stored measurements.

6.6 Polarization Index (PI) and Absorption Ratio (DAR)

Use the PI/DAR button to initiate tests for Polarization Index and Absorption Ratio, which are important indicators of insulation quality over time.

6.7 Backlight

The backlight can be activated for better visibility in dimly lit environments.

8. Maintenance

8.1 Cleaning

Replace batteries when the low voltage alert appears on the display to ensure accurate measurements and proper device function.

  • Device does not power on: Check battery installation and ensure batteries are not depleted. Replace if necessary.
  • Inaccurate readings: Ensure test leads are properly connected and not damaged. Verify the correct function is selected for the measurement.
  • Display is dim or unreadable: Activate the backlight function. If the issue persists, check battery level.
