This device is designed to provide intelligent temperature control for your gas boiler heating system, offering convenience through app and voice control, along with energy-saving programming features. This manual will guide you through the installation, operation, and maintenance of your new thermostat.

2. Safety Information

  • Always turn off power to the heating system before installation or maintenance.
  • Installation should be performed by a qualified professional if you are unsure about electrical wiring.
  • Use only 3 x 1.5V AA alkaline batteries. Do not mix old and new batteries or different types of batteries.
  • Keep the device away from water and excessive humidity.
  • Do not attempt to disassemble or repair the thermostat yourself.

5. Installation

5.1. Battery Installation

  1. Gently open the back cover of the thermostat.
  2. Insert 3 x 1.5V AA alkaline batteries into the battery compartment, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  3. Close the back cover securely.

5.2. Mounting the Thermostat

The thermostat features a flat back design, eliminating the need for embedding it into the wall. It can be fixed directly to the wall using screws.

  1. Choose a suitable location on the wall, away from direct sunlight, drafts, or heat sources.
  2. Use the provided screws to fix the back plate of the thermostat to the wall.
  3. Attach the main unit of the thermostat to the fixed back plate.

5.3. Wiring to the Gas Boiler

The thermostat connects to the gas boiler using passive connections (dry contact). The default relay is normally-open, but it can be changed to normally-closed if required by your boiler system.

Important: The gas boiler typically only detects water temperature. A thermostat is essential to control room temperature effectively and efficiently. Ensure the wiring is correct to prevent damage to the thermostat or boiler.

6. Initial Setup & App Connection

The VANCOO Smart Thermostat can be controlled via the Tuya App or Smart Life App, offering remote access and advanced features.

6.1. Connecting to the App (WIFI Model)

  1. Download the "Tuya Smart" or "Smart Life" app from your smartphone's app store (available on Google Play and Apple App Store).
  2. Register or log in to your account.
  3. Ensure your thermostat is powered on and in pairing mode (refer to the thermostat display for Wi-Fi icon status).
  4. In the app, tap "+" to add a device and follow the on-screen instructions to connect your thermostat to your 2.4G Wi-Fi network.

6.2. Connecting to the App (Zigbee Model - if applicable)

For the BOT-R9V-ZB Zigbee model, you will need a Zigbee Gateway to connect to the app. Follow the gateway's instructions to add it to your Tuya/Smart Life app, then add the thermostat through the gateway.

7. Operating the Thermostat

7.1. Manual Control (Touch Keys)

The thermostat features silver-colored touch keys for direct control:

  • Power Button: Turns the thermostat ON/OFF.
  • Up/Down Arrows: Adjusts the set temperature.
  • Mode Button (M): Cycles through operating modes (Auto, Manual, Temporary Manual).
  • Clock Button: Accesses time and programming settings.

Tip: The screen brightness turns off in 5 seconds when not touching keys to save battery.

7.2. Operating Modes

  • Automatic Mode: The thermostat automatically adjusts the temperature throughout the day based on your programmed schedule.
  • Manual Mode: Maintains a constant temperature set by the user until changed.
  • Temporary Manual Mode: Allows a temporary temperature override in Automatic Mode. The thermostat will revert to the programmed schedule at the next scheduled event.

7.3. Weekly Programming

The thermostat supports 3 cycle modes for weekly programming: 5+2 days (weekday/weekend), 6+1 days (Mon-Sat/Sun), and 7 days (Mon-Sun). You can set different times and temperatures for up to 6 periods per day.

7.4. Child Lock

Activate the child lock feature to prevent unauthorized changes to the thermostat settings. This can be enabled via the app or directly on the thermostat.

7.5. Frost Protection

This feature helps prevent pipes from freezing by maintaining a minimum room temperature (typically 5-7°C) even when the heating is turned off.

7.6. Temperature Hysteresis

The thermostat features a minimum 0.5°C hysteresis, which helps maintain a more constant room temperature by preventing rapid cycling of the heating system.

7.7. Weather Forecast

Real-time weather information, provided by the Tuya App, can be displayed on the thermostat screen.

7.8. Data Statistics

The app can collect and display data on your underfloor heating usage, allowing you to monitor energy consumption and optimize your schedule.

7.9. Voice Control

8. Troubleshooting

  • Low Battery Reminder: When the low battery symbol appears on the screen, it is time to change the 3 AA batteries.
  • No Display: Check if the batteries are inserted correctly and have sufficient charge. Replace batteries if necessary.
  • No Heating: Verify that the thermostat is in an active heating mode (Manual or Auto with a set temperature higher than room temperature). Check boiler operation and wiring connections.
  • App Connectivity Issues: Ensure your Wi-Fi network is 2.4G and stable. Restart your router, thermostat, and smartphone. Re-pair the device if needed.
  • Inaccurate Temperature Reading: Ensure the thermostat is not exposed to direct sunlight, drafts, or heat sources that could affect its sensor.

9. Maintenance

  • Clean the thermostat's screen and casing with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
