Lichuan Nema24 Closed-Loop Stepper Motor and EtherCAT Driver Instruction Manual

Models: LC60H2127 Stepper Motor & CL3-E57H EtherCAT Stepper Driver

1. Introduction

This manual provides essential information for the proper installation, operation, and maintenance of your Lichuan Nema24 Closed-Loop Stepper Motor (Model: LC60H2127) and its accompanying EtherCAT Stepper Driver (Model: CL3-E57H). This system is designed for high-performance CNC machine applications requiring precise control and real-time data communication.

The CL3-E57H driver utilizes a 32-bit DSP processor and supports the standard EtherCAT communication protocol, enabling real-time control and data transmission for stepper systems. It can achieve fieldbus transmission rates of up to 100 Mbps. The system is capable of automatically generating control parameters for various motors, optimizing motor performance. It offers multiple control modes and industrial fieldbus options, significantly reducing wiring complexity, cost, and system complexity, while enhancing operational reliability.

2. Setup and Installation

Careful installation is crucial for optimal performance and safety. Ensure all power is disconnected before making any connections.

2.1 Component Identification

  • Stepper Motor (LC60H2127): Provides mechanical motion.
  • Stepper Driver (CL3-E57H): Controls the motor based on EtherCAT commands.
  • Power Supply: Provides DC power to the driver.
  • EtherCAT Controller: (Not included) Sends commands to the driver via EtherCAT.

2.2 Wiring Instructions

Refer to the diagrams below for proper wiring of the motor, power supply, and EtherCAT communication. The driver features clearly labeled terminals for ease of connection.

2.2.1 Power Supply Connection

Connect your DC power supply to the VDC (positive) and GND (negative) terminals on the driver. Ensure the power supply voltage is within the specified range (e.g., 24-50V as seen on the driver label in Figure 1).

2.2.2 Motor Connection

Connect the stepper motor leads to the corresponding terminals on the driver:

  • Motor Red wire (A+) to driver A+
  • Motor Green wire (A-) to driver A-
  • Motor Yellow wire (B+) to driver B+
  • Motor Blue wire (B-) to driver B-

The motor label (visible in Figure 4) confirms these lead colors and their corresponding phases.

2.2.3 EtherCAT Communication

Use standard Ethernet cables to connect the EtherCAT controller to the ECAT IN port of the first driver. If using multiple drivers in a daisy-chain configuration, connect the ECAT OUT port of the first driver to the ECAT IN port of the next driver, and so on.

2.2.4 Encoder Feedback

The motor features an integrated 1000rrp incremental encoder. Connect the encoder wires from the motor to the EA+, EB+, EZ+, GND terminals on the driver. This feedback is essential for closed-loop operation.

2.2.5 Digital I/O (Optional)

The driver provides digital input (DI1+, DI2+, DI3, DI5, DICOM) and output (DO1-, DO2-, DO3-, BK) terminals for various control signals. Consult your system's specific requirements for connecting these I/O points.

2.3 Driver Configuration (DIP Switches)

The CL3-E57H driver includes DIP switches (LSD, MSD, MS0, MS1, MS2, MS3) on its side for basic configuration. These switches are typically used to set the driver's EtherCAT node ID or other fundamental operating parameters. Refer to the detailed driver manual (if available) for specific settings based on your application.

3. Operating Instructions

Once properly installed and configured, the Lichuan closed-loop stepper system is ready for operation.

3.1 Power On Sequence

  1. Ensure all wiring is correct and secure.
  2. Apply power to the EtherCAT controller.
  3. Apply power to the CL3-E57H stepper driver(s). Observe the status indicators on the driver (e.g., 'RUN' LED, digital display) to confirm proper initialization.

3.2 EtherCAT Communication

The CL3-E57H driver communicates via EtherCAT, allowing for real-time control and monitoring. Your EtherCAT master controller will send motion commands (e.g., position, velocity) to the driver, and the driver will execute these commands while providing feedback from the motor's encoder.

3.3 Closed-Loop Operation

The closed-loop design ensures high precision and prevents step loss. The driver continuously monitors the motor's actual position via the encoder and adjusts the motor current to maintain the commanded position, even under varying loads.

3.4 Control Modes

The driver supports various control modes to suit different application needs. These typically include position control, velocity control, and torque control. The specific mode is usually selected and configured via the EtherCAT master controller software.

4. Maintenance

Regular maintenance helps ensure the longevity and reliable operation of your Lichuan stepper system.

  • Cleanliness: Keep the motor and driver free from dust, debris, and moisture. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning.
  • Connections: Periodically check all electrical connections (power, motor, EtherCAT, I/O, encoder) to ensure they are secure and free from corrosion.
  • Ventilation: Ensure adequate airflow around the driver and power supply to prevent overheating. The power supply fan (if present, as seen in the video) should operate freely.
  • Environmental Conditions: Operate the system within its specified temperature and humidity ranges.
  • Motor Shaft: Inspect the motor shaft for any signs of damage or excessive wear.

5. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Lichuan stepper system, follow these basic troubleshooting steps:

  • No Power: Check the power supply connection and ensure it is providing the correct voltage. Verify the power indicator on the driver is illuminated.
  • Motor Not Moving/Erratic Movement:
    • Verify all motor phase connections (A+, A-, B+, B-) are correct and secure.
    • Check encoder connections for proper wiring.
    • Ensure the EtherCAT communication is established and the controller is sending valid commands. Check EtherCAT status LEDs on the driver.
    • Confirm the driver's DIP switch settings are appropriate for your application.
    • Check for any error codes displayed on the driver's digital display.
  • Overheating: Ensure proper ventilation. Reduce load if possible. Check for short circuits in motor wiring.
  • Communication Errors: Check EtherCAT cable integrity and connections. Verify EtherCAT network configuration on your controller.

For persistent issues, consult the detailed product manual or contact Lichuan technical support.
