  • Power Cycling: If the device becomes unresponsive, try power cycling it (disconnecting and reconnecting power) to perform a soft reset.

7. Troubleshooting

Device not pairing with the app:
  • Ensure your smartphone's Bluetooth is enabled.
  • Verify your WiFi network is 2.4GHz and has a stable internet connection.
  • Check if the network indicator (red light) on the module is blinking fast (0.5s/time). If not, perform a device reset by holding the Reset button for 10 seconds.
  • Confirm that you have entered the correct WiFi password in the app.
  • Ensure your router is not blocking new device connections (MAC-open).
  • Try moving the module closer to your WiFi router during the pairing process.
Device appears offline in the app:
  • Check your WiFi connection and ensure your internet access is working.
  • Verify that the relay module is powered on.
  • Restart the module by disconnecting and reconnecting its power supply.
  • If the issue persists, try re-pairing the device with the app.
Voice control not working:
  • Ensure your Tuya Smart Life account is correctly linked to your Amazon Alexa or Google Home app.
  • Verify that the device name in the Tuya app matches the name you are using for voice commands.
  • Check your internet connection and the status of your smart speaker.
Remote control not responding:
  • Ensure the remote control is paired correctly (refer to Section 4.4).
  • Check the battery in your remote control.

8. User Tips

Here are some helpful tips to enhance your experience with the Scimagic-RC SMG-8116 WiFi Relay Module:

  • Garage Door Control: When controlling a garage door opener, utilize the 'inching' mode for momentary contact. This mode provides a brief pulse, mimicking a button press, which is typically required by most garage door systems.
  • Clear Labeling: If you are using multiple channels or modules, clearly label each channel within the Tuya Smart Life app (e.g., "Kitchen Light," "Bedroom Fan") for easy identification and control.
  • Explore Automation: Experiment with the app's automation features to create smart scenes that simplify your daily life. For instance, set a scene to turn on exterior lights at sunset or activate a coffee machine remotely before you wake up.
  • Remote Monitoring for Security: Regularly check the status of critical devices like garage doors or main lights via the app, especially when you are away from home, to ensure they are in the desired state.
  • Power Considerations: Always double-check the voltage requirements of your connected devices to match the 12V or 24V output of the relay module.
