5. Setup

5.1 Initial Connection

5.2 Router Configuration

You can configure your router using a web browser or the HUAWEI AI Life App.

Using a Web Browser:

  1. Connect your computer to the router's Wi-Fi network (SSID and password are usually found on a sticker at the bottom of the router) or via an Ethernet cable to a LAN port.
  2. Open a web browser and enter the default IP address (e.g., 192.168.3.1 or routerlogin.com) into the address bar.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to set up your Wi-Fi name (SSID), password, and administrator password.
  4. Select your internet connection type (e.g., PPPoE, DHCP, Static IP) as provided by your ISP.

Using the HUAWEI AI Life App:

  1. Download the HUAWEI AI Life App from your smartphone's app store.
  2. Connect your smartphone to the router's default Wi-Fi network.
  3. Open the AI Life App, and it should automatically detect your new router.
  4. Follow the in-app instructions to complete the setup process.

6. Operating Your Router

6.1 Connecting Devices

  • Wi-Fi Connection: On your wireless device, search for the Wi-Fi network name (SSID) you configured during setup and enter the Wi-Fi password.
  • Wired Connection: Connect devices directly to the LAN ports using Ethernet cables.
  • WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup): Press the H button on your router and then the WPS button on your compatible wireless device to establish a secure connection without entering a password.

6.2 Basic Wi-Fi Settings

You can manage your Wi-Fi settings through the web interface or the HUAWEI AI Life App:

  • Change Wi-Fi name (SSID) and password.
  • Enable/disable guest Wi-Fi.
  • Adjust Wi-Fi channel and bandwidth for optimal performance.

6.3 Huawei Share (Tap to Connect)

For compatible Huawei devices, you can simply tap your phone to the router to quickly connect to the Wi-Fi network without entering a password.

6.4 Huawei HiLink & 802.11v Protocol

The router supports Huawei HiLink for easy management of smart home devices and 802.11v protocol for improved Wi-Fi roaming experience.

6.5 Repeater/Extender Functionality

The Huawei AX3 can function as a Wi-Fi extender or repeater to expand your existing network coverage. Refer to the HUAWEI AI Life App or the router's web interface for specific instructions on configuring this mode.

7. Maintenance

7.1 Firmware Updates

Regularly check for and install firmware updates to ensure your router has the latest features, security patches, and performance improvements. This can typically be done via the HUAWEI AI Life App or the router's web management page.

7.2 Cleaning

Wipe the router with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners.

7.3 Resetting the Device

If you encounter persistent issues, you may need to reset the router to its factory default settings. With the router powered on, use a pin to press and hold the Reset button on the rear panel for approximately 2 seconds until the LED indicator blinks. The router will then restart with default settings.
