4. Setup
4.1 Assembly Instructions
This is a DIY soldering kit. Basic soldering skills and tools (soldering iron, solder, wire cutters, multimeter) are required. The microcontroller program is pre-burned. For detailed step-by-step assembly instructions, please refer to the official user manual PDF:
Official User Manual (PDF): View PDF Manual
The PDF manual will guide you through component identification, soldering order, and final assembly, including the acrylic case if provided. Pay close attention to component polarity (diodes, electrolytic capacitors, ICs) and orientation.

4.2 Power Connection
Once assembled, connect the clock to a stable DC 5V power source using the provided USB to DC power cord. Insert the DC plug into the 3.5 * 1.2mm power socket on the clock's PCB.
5. Operating Instructions
The clock features two control adjustment buttons (S1 and S2, or labeled as 'adjusting control buttons' in diagrams) to navigate and set its various functions.

Figure 5.1: Control Adjustment Buttons and Photoresistor
5.1 Basic Display Modes
The clock cycles through various display modes automatically or can be switched manually using the control buttons. These modes typically include:
- Time Display (Hours, Minutes, Seconds)
- Date Display (Month, Day)
- Week Display
- Year Display
- Temperature Display

Figure 5.1.1: Examples of Display Modes
5.2 Setting Time and Date
Specific button press sequences are required to enter setting modes. Generally, one button is used to cycle through settings (e.g., hours, minutes, year, month, day) and the other to adjust the value. Refer to the detailed instructions in the Official User Manual (PDF) for precise steps.
5.3 Alarm Function
The clock supports an alarm function with four selectable melodies. To set the alarm time and choose a melody, follow the instructions in the PDF manual. The alarm will sound at the set time and can be snoozed or turned off using the control buttons.
5.4 Brightness Control
The clock features light-controlled brightness, automatically adjusting the display intensity based on ambient light detected by the photoresistor. Manual brightness adjustments may also be available via the control buttons, as detailed in the PDF manual.
5.5 Power Outage Memory
The integrated button cell (CR1220) provides backup power to the DS1302 RTC chip, ensuring that time and settings are retained even when the main DC 5V power supply is disconnected.
6. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the acrylic case and display. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Power Supply: Always use a stable DC 5V power supply. Incorrect voltage can damage the circuit.
- Battery Replacement: If the power outage memory function fails, the CR1220 button cell may need replacement. Ensure correct polarity when replacing.
- Handling: Handle the assembled clock with care, especially if it does not have a protective case. Avoid dropping or subjecting it to strong impacts.
- Environment: Keep the clock in a dry environment, away from extreme temperatures and direct sunlight, to ensure longevity of electronic components.
7. Troubleshooting
- Clock not powering on:
- Check the 5V DC power supply and ensure it is properly connected.
- Verify all soldered connections, especially for the power socket and main ICs.
- Ensure the power cord is functional.
- Display is blank or incorrect:
- Check soldering of the Nixie tube (LED display) and its connections to the PCB.
- Ensure the STC microcontroller and DS1302 chip are correctly inserted into their sockets (if applicable) and oriented properly.
- Inspect for any short circuits or broken traces on the PCB.
- Buttons not responding:
- Check the soldering of the control buttons.
- Ensure the buttons are not stuck.
- Time/settings not saved after power off:
- Verify the CR1220 button cell is correctly installed and has sufficient charge.
- Check the soldering of the button battery holder.
- Temperature reading is inaccurate:
- Ensure the thermistor is correctly soldered and not damaged.
- Avoid placing the clock in direct sunlight or near heat sources that could affect the sensor.
If issues persist after checking these points, re-examine the circuit diagram and component layout for any missed connections or errors during assembly. The Official User Manual (PDF) may contain more specific troubleshooting steps.
8. User Tips
- Soldering Practice: If new to soldering, practice on scrap boards first. Use a fine-tipped soldering iron and good quality solder.
- Component Identification: Double-check component values (especially resistors and capacitors) before soldering to avoid errors.
- ESD Precautions: Handle integrated circuits with care to prevent electrostatic discharge damage.
- Testing: Test connections with a multimeter after soldering critical components (like power lines) before applying full power.
- Case Assembly: When assembling the acrylic case, do not overtighten screws to prevent cracking the acrylic.
