5. Setup
Materials Required:
- Diaphragm pump with related accessories
- Flexible, reinforced hose piping (minimum 3/8" ID, collapsing strength of twice the inlet collapsing pressure)
- Stainless steel hose clamps and screws
- Screws to fasten the pump to the mounting surface
- Electrical cutoff switch
- Fuse (8 amp recommended)
- Screwdriver
- Strong cutting implement for tubing
- Teflon tape or sealant (optional)
Installation Steps:
- The pump can be mounted in any position. If mounted vertically, ensure the pump head is in the down position to prevent leakage into the motor casing in case of a malfunction.
- Secure the mounting feet, but do not overtighten the securing screws. Overtightening can reduce their ability to dissipate noise and vibration.
- The intake hose must be a minimum 3/8" (10 mm) ID reinforced hose. The main distribution line from the pump outlet should also be 3/8" (10 mm) ID, with branch and individual supply lines to outlets no smaller than 3/8" (10 mm).
- Plumb the system using high-pressure (2x pump rating), braided, flexible tubing to minimize vibration and noise.
- Do not apply inlet pressure exceeding 30 psi. In general, avoid any inlet pressure if possible.
- Avoid any kinks or fittings that could cause excessive restrictions in the plumbing.
- A strainer should be attached to the inlet side of the pump.
- Ensure all fittings are secured to prevent leakage.
- Use clamps at both ends of the hose to prevent air leaks into the water line.
- If a check valve is installed in the plumbing, it must have a cracking pressure of no more than 2 psi.
- If using a sealer or plumbing tape, apply carefully to avoid overtightening, as they may be sucked into the pump.
- The pump should be wired on its own dedicated circuit. Connect the positive lead (red) to the positive terminal of your battery and the negative wire (black) to the negative terminal of your battery.
- Install a switch in an easily accessible location to control electricity to the pump. Turn the pump off when not in use for extended periods or when the tank is empty.
- The electrical circuit must be protected with an over-current protection device (fuse) in the positive lead. This pump requires an 8 amp fuse.
- The pump circuit should not include any other electrical loads.
- Reference the wire sizing chart under the 'Specifications' section to ensure correct wire sizing for the length of wire used.
- After installation, check the voltage at the pump motor while it is operating. Full voltage must be available at the pump motor at all times.
6. Operating Instructions
The SEAFLO 22 Series pump is designed for automatic operation. Once properly installed and connected to a power source, the pump will activate when a demand for water is detected (e.g., opening a faucet) and deactivate when the demand ceases (e.g., closing a faucet). The built-in pressure switch manages this on-demand operation.
Ensure all connections are secure and there are no leaks before operating the pump. Periodically check the system for optimal performance.
7. Maintenance
- Regular sanitizing and maintenance are crucial for optimal pump performance and longevity.
- If the pump is not used or stored for a long time, there is a high potential for the valve to stick to its seat, which can prevent the pump from drawing water. To resolve this, fill the water into the inlet of the pump to separate the valve and valve seat.
- It is recommended that the pump should not be stored for more than one year without use.
- Perform maintenance and winterize the pump at appropriate times, especially before and after periods of storage.

The pump is designed with easily replaceable components. An exploded view of the pump components is provided below for reference when performing repairs.
Key components for repair include: (A) Pressure Switch, (B) Motor Assembly, (1) Diaphragm of Pressure Switch, (2) Pump Head Assembly, (3) Motor, (4) Rubber Feet.
8. Troubleshooting

- Discharge line leak.
- Defective pressure switch.
- Insufficient voltage.
- Clogged valves in pump head.
9. User Tips
- **Verify Voltage and Amperage:** Always confirm the pump's voltage (e.g., 12V or 24V) and maximum current draw (e.g., 3.0A) against your power supply to prevent damage and ensure proper operation.
- **Prevent Dry Running Damage:** While the pump is capable of running dry without harm, prolonged dry running should be avoided to maximize pump lifespan.
- **Proper Hose Sizing:** Using hoses with adequate diameter (minimum 3/8" ID for intake and main distribution) and ensuring they are reinforced and flexible can prevent flow restrictions and reduce noise.
- **Winterization:** If storing the pump in freezing conditions, ensure it is properly drained and winterized to prevent damage from ice expansion.
