3. Operating Instructions
3.1 Adjusting Grind Coarseness
The S1 grinder features stepless adjustment for precise control over your grind size. The adjustment mechanism is located at the bottom of the grinder.
- Find the 'START CLICK': Rotate the adjustment dial clockwise until it reaches the end. This position is referred to as the 'START CLICK'.
- Adjust for Finer Grind: From the 'START CLICK' position, rotate the dial anti-clockwise for a coarser grind. Each 'click' represents a specific increment in coarseness.
- Adjust for Coarser Grind: To achieve a finer grind, rotate the dial clockwise from a coarser setting.
- Reference Grinding Scale: Use the table below as a reference for common brewing methods. The numbers represent the 'cells in the circle' for easy memory and adjustment.

Figure 3: Fine Tuning Mechanism (Rotate clockwise for finer, anti-clockwise for coarser)
Grinding Scale Reference:
| Brew Method | Grind Fineness | Recommended Grid Setting |
|---|---|---|
| Italian Coffee (Espresso) | Fineness grinding | 7-9 grid |
| Mocha Coffee | Fineness grinding | 14-18 grid |
| Hand Brewed Coffee | Medium grinding | 22-26 grid |
| Drop Coffee | Medium grinding | 24 grid |
| Siphon Coffee | Medium grinding | 24 grid |
| French Coffee (French Press) | Rough grinding | 30-34 grid |
Note: When adjusting the thickness, turn it clockwise first to the end (START CLICK), then adjust the number of cells counterclockwise to reach your desired setting. The number of cells helps with memory and easy adjustment.

4. Maintenance and Care
Regular cleaning and proper care will ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your SearchPean S1 grinder.
- Disassembly: The grinder can be easily disassembled for cleaning. Unscrew the bottom collection cup, then carefully remove the burr, spring, and shaft components.
- Cleaning the Burr: Use a brush (a small stiff brush is often included or recommended) to remove any residual coffee grounds from the burr and grinding chamber. Do not use water on the burr unless specifically instructed by the manufacturer, as it can lead to rust and dulling.
- Cleaning Other Parts: The main body, handle, and collection cup can be wiped clean with a damp cloth. Ensure all parts are completely dry before reassembly.
- Reassembly: Reassemble the grinder in reverse order of disassembly, ensuring all parts are securely in place.
- Storage: Store the grinder in a dry place away from direct sunlight.
5. Troubleshooting
- Grinder feels stiff or difficult to turn:
- Check for blockages: Ensure no large foreign objects or unground beans are stuck in the burr.
- Adjust coarseness: A very fine grind setting can increase resistance. Try a slightly coarser setting.
- Clean the burr: Accumulated coffee oils and fines can cause stiffness. Perform a thorough cleaning.
- Inconsistent grind size:
- Ensure burr is clean: Residue can affect grind consistency.
- Check for proper assembly: Make sure all components, especially the burr and shaft, are correctly seated and tightened. The one-piece aluminum alloy body and dual bearings are designed for high concentricity and constancy.
- Beans not feeding into the burr:
- Ensure enough beans are loaded: The grinder works best with a sufficient amount of beans to create pressure for feeding.
- Check for moisture: Damp beans can clump and prevent proper feeding. Use fresh, dry beans.

8. User Tips
- Burr Design: The internal grinding burr features a 6-point star shape, which contributes to its high precision and consistency.
- Visual Grind Assessment: Instead of judging grind thickness by the gap between the burrs, observe the coffee powder by light transmission for a more accurate assessment of fineness.
- Ergonomic Grinding: The S1's handle is 2cm longer than previous models, and its bending is improved to be closer to the grip center point, making grinding easier and less prone to deviation.
- Stability: The grinder's base features polymer silicone material with a groove design and silicone pads, ensuring safe and stable operation on various surfaces.
