Setup and Installation
Proper installation is crucial for optimal performance and safety. The EVO5 line is designed for ease of installation with robust connectors and secure fastening mechanisms.
1. Mounting the Amplifier
- Choose a secure, well-ventilated location for mounting the amplifier.
- Use the provided screws to fix the product to the installation point. Removable covers protect the screw heads for a cleaner finish.
2. Power Connections
Refer to Figure 3 for the terminal layout.

Figure 3: Direct rear view of the Soundigital 400.2 EVO5 Amplifier, showing power and speaker terminals.
- GND (Ground): Connect to a solid chassis ground point in the vehicle.
- REM (Remote): Connect to the remote turn-on output of your head unit.
- +12 VDC (Power): Connect directly to the positive terminal of the vehicle's battery.
- Recommended Fuse: Install a 20A fuse on the +12VDC line, close to the battery.
- Recommended Battery: A minimum 35Ah battery is recommended for musical use.
- Ensure all connections are tight using ALLEN type steel screws for best wire fixation.
3. Audio Input Connections
Refer to Figure 4 for the input panel layout.

Figure 4: Direct front view of the Soundigital 400.2 EVO5 Amplifier, showing the input and control panel.
- INPUT (RCA): Connect your head unit's RCA outputs to CH1 and CH2 inputs.
- HI INPUT: For head units without RCA outputs, use the high-level input with SSS (SounDigital Smart Start) feature. This system uses conventional audio outputs from vehicle audio units and eliminates the need for a remote activation wire.
4. Speaker Connections
Connect your speakers to the CH1 and CH2 terminals. For bridged operation, connect to the BRIDGE 4Ω terminals as indicated in Figure 3.
- Ensure correct polarity (+/-) for all speaker connections.
- Minimum impedance per stereo channel is 2Ω.
- Minimum impedance for bridged operation is 4Ω.
Operating Instructions
Once installed, configure the amplifier for optimal sound performance using the controls on the input panel (Figure 4).
1. GAIN Control
- The GAIN knob adjusts the input sensitivity of the amplifier.
- Start with the GAIN set to minimum (MIN).
- Gradually increase the GAIN until you achieve a clear, undistorted sound at your desired volume level from your head unit. Avoid setting the GAIN too high, as this can introduce distortion.
2. X-OVER (Crossover) Settings
- The X-OVER switch allows you to filter frequencies sent to your speakers.
- LP (Low Pass): Activates a low-pass filter, allowing only frequencies below 80Hz to pass. Ideal for subwoofers.
- F (Full Range): Allows all frequencies to pass through. Suitable for full-range speakers.
- HP (High Pass): Activates a high-pass filter, allowing only frequencies above 80Hz to pass. Ideal for mid-range speakers and tweeters.
- Select the appropriate setting based on the type of speakers connected to the amplifier.
3. SounDigital Smart Start (SSS)
- If using the HI INPUT, the SSS feature automatically turns the amplifier on when it detects an audio signal from the vehicle's head unit, eliminating the need for a separate remote turn-on wire.
Maintenance
The Soundigital EVO5 amplifier is designed for robustness and reliability, featuring advanced temperature control and vibration resistance. Minimal maintenance is required to ensure its longevity.
- Cleaning: Periodically clean the amplifier's exterior with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
- Ventilation: Ensure that the amplifier's cooling fins are free from obstructions to allow for proper airflow and heat dissipation.
- Connections: Occasionally check all power and speaker connections to ensure they remain tight and free from corrosion.
Troubleshooting
The EVO5 amplifier is equipped with intelligent protection systems to safeguard against potential issues. If the amplifier stops functioning, consider the following:
- No Power/No Sound:
- Check the main power fuse (20A) near the battery.
- Verify all power connections (GND, REM, +12VDC) are secure and correctly wired.
- If using HI INPUT, ensure the head unit is on and providing an audio signal for the SSS feature to activate.
- Distorted Sound:
- Reduce the GAIN setting on the amplifier.
- Check speaker connections for correct polarity and ensure they are not short-circuited.
- Verify that the speaker impedance matches the amplifier's minimum impedance requirements.
- Amplifier Overheating:
- Ensure adequate ventilation around the amplifier. Remove any obstructions blocking airflow to the cooling fins.
- Check speaker impedance; running below minimum impedance can cause excessive heat.
- Protection Mode:
- The amplifier's intelligent protection systems will activate in case of a failure in the power supply or a speaker connection issue. If the amplifier shuts off, disconnect power, inspect all connections and speaker wiring for shorts or incorrect impedance, and then reconnect power.
