The built-in signal strength indicator will assist in finding the best placement for optimal performance.
4.4. Power Connection (PoE)
- Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the 5G Receiver's Ethernet port.
- Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to the 'PoE' port on the PoE injector.
- Connect a standard Ethernet cable from the 'LAN' port on the PoE injector to your home router or Wi-Fi gateway.
- Plug the PoE injector into a power outlet. The receiver will power on via the Ethernet cable.
4.5. App-Guided Setup
- Download the Nokia Wireless App by scanning the QR code on the back of the device (refer to Figure 4.4) or searching in your app store.
- Follow the in-app instructions to complete the setup, including finding the best signal strength and configuring network settings.
5. Operating Instructions
Once installed and powered, the Nokia FastMile 5G Receiver will automatically connect to the cellular network. It acts as a modem, providing internet access to your connected home router or Wi-Fi gateway.
5.1. Accessing the WebGUI
For advanced configuration and monitoring, you can access the device's web-based Graphical User Interface (WebGUI):
- Ensure your computer or device is connected to the same network as your home router, which is connected to the 5G Receiver.
- Open a web browser and navigate to:
http://192.168.1.1 - When prompted, enter the login credentials (refer to Figure 4.4 for default credentials):
- Username:
admin - Password:
password(It is highly recommended to change the default password immediately after your first login for security reasons.)
5.2. Network Functions
The device supports various network functions accessible via the WebGUI:
- Firewall: Configure firewall rules to protect your network.
- VPN: Set up VPN connections for secure remote access or privacy.
- WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup): If connected to a WPS-enabled Wi-Fi gateway, this feature can simplify connecting Wi-Fi devices.
- WDS (Wireless Distribution System): If your Wi-Fi gateway supports WDS, this feature can be used for extending wireless coverage.
6. Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Nokia FastMile 5G Receiver, follow these maintenance guidelines:
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the device. For outdoor units, periodically wipe away dust, dirt, or debris. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosols directly on the device.
- Firmware Updates: Regularly check for and install firmware updates through the Nokia Wireless App or the WebGUI. Updates often include performance improvements, security patches, and new features.
- Environmental Conditions: While the device is IP65 rated for outdoor use, avoid exposing it to extreme temperatures beyond its operating range or direct, prolonged submersion in water.
- Cable Management: Ensure all cables are securely connected and free from kinks or damage. Replace any damaged cables immediately.
7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your 5G Receiver, try the following steps:
- No Internet Connection:
- Check if the SIM card is correctly inserted and active.
- Verify that the Ethernet cable from the receiver to the PoE injector, and from the injector to your router, is securely connected.
- Ensure the PoE injector is powered on.
- Check the signal strength indicator on the receiver. If the signal is weak, try repositioning the device.
- Restart the 5G Receiver by unplugging the PoE injector from power for 30 seconds and then plugging it back in.
- Confirm your cellular plan is active and has data allowance.
- Slow Speeds:
- Check the signal strength indicator; a stronger signal generally means better speeds.
- Ensure your home Wi-Fi network (connected to the receiver) is not congested or experiencing issues.
- Perform a speed test to verify the actual internet speed received by the device.
- Consider if there are any physical obstructions blocking the signal to the cellular tower.
- Cannot Access WebGUI:
- Ensure your device is connected to the same local network as the 5G Receiver.
- Verify the IP address
http://192.168.1.1is typed correctly. - Clear your browser's cache or try a different browser.
- Confirm you are using the correct username and password.
8. User Tips
- Optimal Placement: Use the Nokia Wireless App to find the best location for your receiver. Often, a window facing the nearest cellular tower provides the strongest signal.
- Secure Your Network: Always change the default WebGUI password immediately after initial setup to prevent unauthorized access.
- Regular Reboots: If you experience intermittent connectivity or performance issues, a simple reboot of the receiver (by unplugging and replugging the PoE injector) can often resolve them.
- Monitor Data Usage: Keep an eye on your cellular data usage, especially if you have a capped plan, to avoid unexpected overage charges.
