3.3 Diagnostic Functions
The CR3001 provides comprehensive OBD2 diagnostic functions:
- Read Codes: Displays detailed descriptions of Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
- Erase Codes & Reset: Turns off the Check Engine Light (MIL), clears codes, and resets monitors.
- Data Stream: Reads and displays live ECU/PCM data stream, with graphical plotting and freeze frame data storage.
- I/M Readiness Status: Checks if emission-related systems are operating correctly and ready for inspection.
- View Freeze Frame Data: Shows vehicle conditions recorded by the on-board computer when an emission-related fault occurs.
- O2 Sensor Test: Retrieves and displays O2 sensor monitor test results.
- On-Board Monitor Test (Mode 6): Retrieves and displays test results for emission-related powertrain components and systems. This helps identify misfires or compression problems not severe enough to trigger a check engine light.
- EVAP System Test (Mode 8): Initiates a leak test for the vehicle's EVAP system, which prevents fuel evaporation. Useful for verifying repairs to the fuel system.
- Read Vehicle Information: Displays VIN (Vehicle Identification Number), CID (Calibration ID), and CVN (Calibration Verification Number).
- Component Test: Allows actuation of certain vehicle components via commands from the scanner to test their operability.
- DTC Lookup: Built-in OBD-II DTC lookup library for quick definition of error codes.

5. Troubleshooting
Here are solutions to common issues you might encounter:
- System halts when reading data stream: This may be caused by a loose connector. Turn off the tool, firmly connect the connector, and switch it on again.
- No response when communicating with on-board computer: Confirm the proper voltage of the power supply. Ensure the throttle is closed, the transmission is in neutral, and the engine water is at a proper temperature.
- Many fault codes displayed: This is usually caused by a poor connection or a fault in the circuit grounding.
- Check Engine Light remains on after clearing codes: If the light persists, it indicates that the underlying issue causing the fault code has not been fully resolved. Further diagnosis or professional assistance may be required.
