5. Setup Instructions

5.1. CPU Installation

Follow these steps carefully to install the Intel Xeon E5 2640 V4 CPU onto the LGA 2011-3 socket on your MOUGOL X99 P4 motherboard.

  1. Press the lever with your hand and lift it up.
  2. Lift the CPU slot buckle cover and remove the black protective cover.
  3. Align the CPU base with the card slot on top of the CPU. After confirming it is correct, lower the CPU carefully and place it in place.
  4. After installation, put down the CPU slot buckle cover and snap back the lever.

Important Note: Do not touch the motherboard interface pins. Do not touch the CPU pins to contact the core. Motherboard before delivery will undergo strict testing. After receiving the package, for your personal rights, please take a complete unpacking video. If there is a situation with bent or broken pins, contact customer service immediately.

5.2. RAM Installation

The MOUGOL X99 P4 motherboard supports DDR4 dual-channel memory. For optimal performance, follow the memory usage instructions below:

  • If only one memory module is inserted, please insert it into the slot marked '1' (green slot).
  • If you are installing two memory modules (for dual-channel operation), please insert them into the slots labeled '1' and '2' (green slots) in chronological order.
  • The black RAM slots (3 and 4) cannot work alone. Memory needs to be inserted into the yellow main slot (1 or 2) first.

5.3. Power Supply Connection

Connect the 24-pin main power connector and the 8-pin +12V CPU power connector from your power supply unit (PSU) to the corresponding ports on the motherboard. This platform requires a powerful power supply; ensure your PSU can provide at least 500W of stable power from a reputable brand.

5.4. Other Component Connections

  • Storage: Connect your SATA drives (HDDs/SSDs) to the SATA ports using the provided SATA cable. For M.2 NVMe/NGFF SSDs, install them into the M.2 slot.
  • Graphics Card: Install your graphics card into the PCIe 3.0 x16 slot.
  • Peripherals: Connect USB devices, keyboard, mouse, and monitor to the appropriate back I/O ports.
  • Front Panel Connectors: Connect your case's front panel USB ports, audio jacks, power button, reset button, and LED indicators to the corresponding headers on the motherboard. Refer to your computer case manual for specific pin assignments.

6. Operating Instructions

Once all components are securely installed and connected, you can proceed with powering on your system.

  • First Boot: After assembly, connect your monitor, keyboard, and mouse. Power on the system. The system should display the BIOS/UEFI screen.
  • BIOS/UEFI Configuration: Access the BIOS/UEFI setup (usually by pressing DEL or F2 during boot) to configure boot order, enable XMP for RAM (if applicable), and check system status.
  • Operating System Installation: Insert your operating system installation media (USB drive or DVD) and follow the on-screen prompts to install your preferred OS.
  • Driver Installation: After OS installation, install all necessary drivers for the motherboard (chipset, LAN, audio, USB) and your graphics card. These are typically available on the manufacturer's websites.

7. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Regularly clean dust from inside your computer case, especially from CPU cooler fins, case fans, and motherboard surfaces, using compressed air. Ensure the system is powered off and unplugged before cleaning.
  • Driver Updates: Keep your motherboard chipset drivers, graphics drivers, and other system drivers updated to ensure optimal performance and stability.
  • BIOS/UEFI Updates: Periodically check the MOUGOL support website for BIOS/UEFI updates. Only update if necessary and follow the instructions precisely to avoid system instability.
  • Component Checks: Periodically check all cable connections (power, SATA, front panel) to ensure they are secure.

8. Troubleshooting

  • System Fails to Boot / No Display:
    • Check all power connections (24-pin ATX, 8-pin CPU, graphics card PCIe power).
    • Reseat RAM modules firmly in their slots. Try booting with only one RAM module in slot 1.
    • Reseat the graphics card.
    • Ensure the CPU is correctly seated and the cooler is properly installed. Check for bent CPU pins (refer to Figure 5.2).
    • Verify monitor connection and input source.
  • Incompatibility Issues with Other Components:
    • The market contains various computer accessories, including niche brands or ES/QS versions of CPUs, RAM, or M.2 SSDs, which may be incompatible with the motherboard.
    • If you experience incompatibility, ensure all your components (especially RAM and M.2 SSDs) are standard retail versions and compatible with the LGA 2011-3 platform and DDR4 memory.
    • For specific compatibility concerns, it is recommended to confirm with customer service before purchasing additional components.
  • System Instability / Crashes:
    • Ensure your power supply is sufficient (at least 500W recommended) and stable.
    • Check CPU and GPU temperatures. Overheating can cause instability.
    • Run memory diagnostic tools to check for faulty RAM.
    • Update all drivers to the latest stable versions.
  • No Internet Connection:
    • Ensure the Ethernet cable is securely connected to the RJ45 port.
    • Install the latest LAN drivers.
    • If using Wi-Fi, ensure a compatible PCIe Wi-Fi card is installed and its drivers are updated.

8.1. User Tips

  • CPU Cooler: While the set includes a CPU cooler mounting bracket, a CPU cooler itself is not included. Ensure you have a compatible LGA 2011-3 CPU cooler for proper operation.
  • RAM Type: The included RAM is DDR4 ECC. While the motherboard supports standard DDR4, using ECC RAM is common with Xeon processors. Ensure any additional RAM modules match the type and speed for optimal compatibility.
  • M.2 SSD: The motherboard supports M.2 NVMe SSDs, which can significantly improve system speed. Ensure your M.2 SSD is compatible with the 2280 or 22110 form factors.
  • Power Supply: Do not underestimate the importance of a quality 500W or higher power supply for system stability, especially with a Xeon CPU and dedicated graphics card.
