1. Product Overview

The TOOLTOP ET31C/32C is a versatile automotive signal generator and multimeter designed for vehicle maintenance and electrical testing. 3. Setup

3.1 Powering the Device

  • ET31C Model: This model is powered by 3 x AAA batteries (not included). Open the battery compartment on the back of the device and insert the batteries, observing the correct polarity.
  • ET32C Model: This model features a built-in 4.2V lithium battery. To charge, connect the device using the provided USB Type-C cable to a suitable USB power source.

3.2 Interface and Buttons

Familiarize yourself with the device's interface and controls:

  • USB Charging Interface: (ET32C only) For charging the internal battery.
  • 2.8-inch HD Display: Shows measurement readings and signal parameters. Resolution: 320*480. Screen brightness is adjustable from 5% to 100%.
  • Function Buttons (Fn1-Fn4): Context-sensitive buttons for various operations.
  • Switch/Off Button: Powers the device on or off.
  • Mode Switch Button: Toggles between signal generator and multimeter modes.
  • Direction Control and OK Button: Used for navigation and selection within menus.
  • Jacks: Input/output ports for test leads and signal connections.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Signal Generator Functions

The signal generator can output various waveforms and simulate automotive signals.

4.1.1 Waveform Output

The device can generate sine wave, square wave, combined wave, scanning wave, and DC voltage signals.

  • Sine Wave/Square Wave:
  • Frequency range: 1Hz~9999Hz (step: 1Hz)
  • Peak range: -12V~+12V (step: 1V)
  • Duty cycle: 1%~99% (for square wave only)
  • Combined Wave: Can arbitrarily set missing tooth signals (e.g., 58+2, 10+1) without PC connection. Maximum combinations: 99+99.
  • Scanning Wave: Simulates crankshaft/cam signal from low to high speed. Scanning time range: 1s~999s.
  • Analog Voltage Output: Adjustable from -12V to +12V, with a 1V step value.

4.1.2 Automotive Signal Simulation

The device can simulate Hall type and magnetoelectric crankshaft and cam signals for gasoline and diesel vehicles. It supports magnetoelectric signal scanning or Hall signal scanning.

4.1.3 Coil Control

Supports ignition coil control, solenoid valve control, and relay control. Note: Only supports coil control of 30V/1A and below.

4.1.4 Signal Storage and Loading

The instrument supports storing up to 50 sets of waveform parameters. You can save current settings to a specified location and load previously saved waveforms.

  • DC Voltage: Maximum input 1000V.
  • AC Voltage: Maximum input 750V.
  • Resistance: Maximum measured resistance 40MΩ.
  • Diode: Measurement range 0V~1.5V.
  • Continuity: Maximum resistance for on/off detection 30Ω.
  • Capacitance: Maximum measured capacitance 100uF.
  • Frequency: Maximum frequency measurement 50KHz.
  • Duty Cycle: Measurement range 0.1%~99.9%.

The multimeter features a 4000-count display with an update rate of 3 times per second.

5. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and accuracy of your TOOLTOP ET31C/32C, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the device. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Storage: Store the device in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. If storing for extended periods, remove AAA batteries from the ET31C model.
  • Handling: Avoid dropping the device or subjecting it to strong impacts.
  • Test Leads: Inspect test leads and crocodile clamps regularly for any signs of wear or damage. Replace if necessary.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your device, consider the following common troubleshooting steps:

  • Device not powering on:
  • For ET31C, check if AAA batteries are correctly inserted and have sufficient charge.
  • For ET32C, ensure the internal battery is charged. Connect to a USB power source.
  • Inaccurate readings:
  • Check that test leads are securely connected to the device and the circuit being tested.
  • Ensure the correct measurement mode is selected on the device.
  • No signal output:
  • Verify that the signal generator mode is active and parameters are correctly set.
  • Check connections to the external circuit or oscilloscope.
