Operating Instructions

Real-time Tracking

Once set up, you can track the device in real-time using the dedicated mobile application or the web tracking platform. The device uploads location data at a minimum interval of 10 seconds, providing up-to-date positioning.

History Route Playback

The tracking application and web server store up to 6 months of historical route data. You can review past movements of the tracker at any time through the platform.

Alarms and Alerts

The TK918 tracker supports various alarm functions to enhance security:

  • **Over-speed Alarm:** Configure a speed limit, and the device will send an alert if exceeded.
  • **Shock Alarm:** After enabling the shake alarm setting and keeping the tracker stationary for 5 minutes, this function will activate. It sends an alert if the device detects significant movement or shock.
  • **Movement Alarm:** If the unit remains immobile for 10 minutes, you can set a movement alarm using the command "move+password". If the device then moves more than 500m, it will send an SMS alert "Move Alarm+Latitude and longitude" to the authorized number.
  • **Geo-fence:** Define a virtual boundary on the map. The tracker will send an alarm to the app and web server if it enters or exits this predefined area.
  • **Dropped Alarm:** An anti-removal induction sensor on the back of the device triggers an alarm if it is removed from its attached surface. It sends "Loosing alarms!" to the admin and SOS numbers via SMS.

Power-Saving Mode

The device features a sleeping power-save mode. In normal status, if the unit is stopped over 10 minutes, it will change to sleeping mode automatically. Under this mode, the power consumption is 4mAh/h only. If it gets any command or call or been moved during sleeping mode, it will start GPS locating again automatically.

Maintenance

  • **Charging:** Ensure the device is charged regularly, especially if used in active tracking mode. The 20000mAh battery provides up to 30 days of working time or 240 days of standby.
  • **Cleaning:** Wipe the device with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • **Water Resistance:** The device is IP67 waterproof, meaning it is protected against temporary immersion in water (up to 1 meter for 30 minutes) and dust. However, avoid prolonged submersion or high-pressure water jets. Ensure the SIM/SD card slot cover is always securely closed.
  • **Storage:** Store the device in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures when not in use.
  • **SIM Card:** Periodically check your SIM card's data plan and balance to ensure continuous tracking service.

Troubleshooting

  • **Device not powering on:** Ensure the device is fully charged. Check the charging cable and adapter.
  • **No GPS signal/Inaccurate location:**
    • Ensure the device is in an open area with a clear view of the sky for optimal GPS reception.
    • If GPS signal is weak, the device will automatically switch to LBS (Location Based Service) for approximate positioning (accuracy 100-2000m).
    • Verify the SIM card is correctly inserted and has an active data plan.
  • **No real-time data updates:**
    • Check SIM card data balance and network coverage.
    • Ensure the device is powered on and has sufficient battery.
    • Confirm the minimum data upload interval is set correctly (default is 10 seconds).
  • **Alarms not working:**
    • Verify that the admin number is correctly set via SMS command.
    • Ensure the specific alarm (e.g., Shock Alarm, Movement Alarm, Geo-fence) has been activated and configured correctly through the app or SMS commands.
    • For Shock Alarm, ensure the device has been stationary for at least 5 minutes after setting.
    • For Dropped Alarm, ensure the anti-removal sensor is clean and functioning.
  • **Device not responding to SMS commands:**
    • Check if the SIM card has sufficient credit for sending SMS.
    • Ensure the SMS commands are sent in the correct format, including the password.
    • Verify the admin number is correctly set.

User Tips

  • **Optimal Placement:** For best GPS accuracy, place the tracker in a location with an unobstructed view of the sky. The powerful magnet allows for discreet and secure attachment to metal surfaces.
  • **Battery Management:** While the battery life is extensive, consider charging the device periodically, especially before long trips or extended periods of active tracking, to avoid service interruption.
  • **SIM Card Choice:** Ensure your chosen SIM card supports the 2G or 4G network bands compatible with your specific TK918 model and has a suitable data plan for continuous tracking.
  • **Alarm Customization:** Utilize the various alarm features (over-speed, shock, movement, geo-fence, dropped) to tailor the device's security functions to your specific needs.
  • **Regular Monitoring:** Regularly check the tracking platform or app to monitor the device's status, battery level, and location history.
