It is engineered to accurately calculate electricity consumption and manage electric demand. This smart meter offers high precision, a compact size, and straightforward installation.

It integrates the measurement of all essential electrical parameters, providing comprehensive electricity metering and management capabilities. The device stores historical data for up to 12 months, performs 31st harmonic content analysis, and supports remote communication and control via RS485 (MODBUS-RTU) and infrared interfaces. It also features alarm outputs and is compliant with IEC62053-21 and IEC62053-22 standards for electronic power meters.

4. Installation

4.1 DIN Rail Mounting

The ADL3000 meter is designed for 35mm DIN rail mounting. Follow these steps for secure installation:

  1. Push the buckle on the back of the meter away.
  2. Install the meter onto the 35mm DIN rail.
  3. Push the buckle up to secure the meter.
  4. Ensure the meter is fixed firmly in place.

4.2 Wiring Diagrams

The meter supports both 3-phase 3-wire and 3-phase 4-wire configurations. Connections can be made directly or via external Current Transformers (CTs) depending on the current rating. The wiring method is typically input downward and output downward.

Important Wiring Notes:

  • For direct connect wiring, the torque should not exceed 4.0 N·m.
  • For connections via CTs, the torque should not exceed 2.0 N·m.
  • Ensure all connections are secure to prevent loose contacts and potential hazards.

5. Operation

5.1 Display and Key Functions

The ADL3000 features an 8-digit LCD display with backlight. Navigation and parameter settings are performed using the four control buttons: SET, Up, Down, and Enter.

5.2 Display Menus

Upon powering on, the meter displays the forward active energy. Users can navigate through various display screens by pressing the keys. The display modes include:

  • Electrical Parameters: Voltage (A, B, C phase), Current (A, B, C phase), Frequency, Date, Time, Communication Address, Software Version.
  • Power Parameters: Active Power (A, B, C phase, Total), Reactive Power (A, B, C phase, Total), Apparent Power (A, B, C phase, Total), Power Factor (A, B, C phase, Total).
  • Energy & Demand: Total forward/reversing active/reactive energy, forward/reversing active/reactive spike/peak/flat/valley energy, maximum demand values and their occurrence times.
  • Temperature: Displays readings from up to three NTC temperature sensors (if installed).

5.3 Parameter Settings (Programming Mode)

To enter programming mode, press the 'SET' button. The display will show '0000' prompting for a password. Enter the correct password using the navigation keys and confirm with 'Enter'. If the password is correct, you can access various settings. After making changes, press 'SET' again to save or exit without saving.

  • Communication Settings: Address (1-247), Baud Rate (1200-19200bps), Parity (None, Even), Device ID.
  • System Settings: Network type (3P3L, 3P4L), Multi-tariff rate enable/disable, Password, Backlight time.
  • Transformer Settings: Voltage Transformer (Pt) ratio, Current Transformer (Ct) ratio.
  • Pulse Constant: 6400imp/kWh, 400imp/kWh.
  • Time Calibration: Set Date and Time.

6. Communication

The ADL3000 meter supports RS485 communication using the MODBUS-RTU protocol and also features an infrared communication port for remote meter reading.

6.1 RS485 Interface

  • Protocol: MODBUS-RTU.
  • Baud Rates: Selectable from 1200bps, 2400bps, 4800bps, 9600bps, and 19200bps.
  • Parity: None (default), Even.
  • Wiring: Use shielded twisted pair conductors. Ensure proper network layout, considering cable length, termination resistors, and electromagnetic interference. The total length of the RS485 bus line should not exceed 1200 meters.
  • Address Range: Modbus RTU addresses 1-247.

6.2 Switching Input/Output and NTC Temperature Measurement

The meter provides switching input and output functionalities, which can be used for remote control and alarm outputs. It also supports up to three external NTC temperature sensors for measurement within a range of -40°C to 99°C.

7. Troubleshooting & FAQ

Q: Can a three-phase four-wire meter be wired as three-phase three-wire?
A: Yes, you can set the meter to three-phase three-wire mode via the key interface.
Q: What is the difference between ordinary secondary access and -CT models (external transformer)?
A: An ordinary secondary meter accesses current via CTs directly. The -CT model comes with an external transformer for convenient installation and cannot be disassembled. Ensure to use appropriate CTs for your application.
Q: What do the voltage specifications like 3*100V, 3*57.7/100V, 3*380V, 3*220/380V mean?
A: These refer to different voltage input configurations. For example, 3*100V and 3*57.7/100V are for high voltage applications with voltage transformers (3P3W and 3P4W respectively). 3*380V and 3*220/380V are for low voltage direct input (3P3W and 3P4W respectively).
Q: Can this meter communicate with a PLC?
A: Yes, if the PLC supports an RS485 interface and the Modbus RTU or DL/T645 protocol.
Q: The display is blank or not showing correct values.
A: Check the power supply connections. Ensure the voltage inputs are within the specified range. If the display is blank, it might indicate a power issue. If values are incorrect, verify wiring and CT ratios in settings.

  • Inverter Compatibility: If you intend to use this smart meter with a solar inverter for zero export functionality, it is crucial to specify your inverter's brand and model when ordering. Otherwise, the meter will be configured with a standard RS485 program. Always verify that your inverter supports RS485 Modbus-RTU communication.
  • Wiring Verification: Double-check all wiring connections against the provided diagrams before powering on the device. Incorrect wiring can lead to inaccurate readings or damage to the meter.
  • Parameter Configuration: Familiarize yourself with the programming mode to correctly set communication parameters (address, baud rate) and transformer ratios (Pt, Ct) to match your system's requirements.
  • Regular Monitoring: Periodically check the meter's display for any error messages or unusual readings to ensure continuous and accurate energy monitoring.
