- 4. Close the battery compartment with the cover and reattach the belt clip.
Charging
Place your transceiver in the desktop charger cradle or connect the wall adapter to the correct socket on the radio. Recharge of the Li-Ion battery is managed by a radio processor and the battery status can be checked by the icon on the screen and by seeing it on the desktop charger:
- Charging status is indicated by the LED on the desktop charger and by the flashing battery icon on the radio display.
- When charging is complete, the LED will be off and the battery icon on the screen will be full of bars.
NiMH Batteries (3 x AA, Optional)
Installation
The radio can also be powered by 3 AA non-rechargeable alkaline batteries (Not Included).
- 1. Remove the belt clip.
- 2. Open the battery compartment.
- 3. Insert 3 AA batteries, observing polarity.
- 4. Close the battery compartment with the cover and reattach the belt clip.
Charging (for rechargeable NiMH)
Place your transceiver in the desktop charger cradle or connect the wall adapter to the correct socket on the radio. A full charge takes about 5 hours. We suggest you detach the wall adapter from the radio or remove the radio from the desktop charger cradle after 5 hours.
The battery icon on the radio display will flash during the entire charging process, as well as the red LED will be on on the desktop charger.
Note: Alkaline batteries can only be used for replacement and cannot be recharged. NiMH batteries can be recharged and recycled.
Belt Clip Installation

- To remove the belt clip, slide it upwards from the slot on the unit.
- To install the belt clip, slide it into the guides on the back of the transceiver until it clicks into place.
Basic Operations
Power On/Off and Volume Adjustment
To turn the radio on, keep the CALL button pressed. To adjust the volume level, press the UP or DOWN button. If the radio does not pick up any signal, momentarily activate the Monitor function to detect weak signals, then adjust the volume. To turn the radio off, keep the CALL button pressed until a switch-off tone is heard.
Keypad Lock
To avoid accidentally changing radio settings, press the MENU button for 3 seconds. The lock icon will appear on the display. The PTT, CALL, and MONI keys will still be active. Repeat the same procedure to unlock the keypad.
Flashlight Function
You can use this radio in an emergency. If you press the LAMP/Emergency button, the radio turns on the high-intensity LED flashlight:
- Press the button once: continuous light (Always On mode).
- Press the button again: Strobe Light emits the emergency signal (Strobe emergency mode).
- Press the button a third time: light turns off.
Talking on Your Radio (PTT)
1) Press and hold the PTT button and speak in a clear, normal voice about 2-3 inches away from the microphone. While transmitting, the TX icon appears on the display. To avoid cutting off the first part of your transmission, pause slightly after pressing the PTT button before speaking.
2) When you have finished speaking, release the PTT button. You can now receive incoming calls. While receiving, the RX icon displays.
Monitor Mode Feature
Your radio allows you to listen for weak signals on the current channel. To turn on Monitor mode: Press the MONI button. The receiver circuit stays open, and both noise and weak signals can be heard. The RX icon blinks. To turn off Monitor mode: Press the MONI button again to return to normal mode, and the RX icon stops blinking and disappears.
Channel Scanning
The F22/T22 can automatically search for signals throughout the PMR bands by scanning channels in rapid sequence. When a signal is detected, scanning pauses on that channel, and you can transmit by pushing PTT. If you press PTT during scanning, you transmit on the channel from which scanning started. The UP or DOWN buttons allow you to change the scanning direction (from lower to higher channels or vice versa) and skip communications of no interest.
Press the SCAN button briefly to start scanning. To stop, press SCAN again. Your transceiver will return to the channel from which scanning originally started.
Scanning Sub-Codes (CTCSS/DCS)
Press and hold the SCAN button to enter Sub-Codes scanning. A flashing "CTC/DCS" will appear in the left status display. The lower display will cycle through Sub-Codes as they are tested. Once the received Privacy code is determined, the "CTC/DCS" indicator will stop flashing. Press the PTT button to save the scanned tone into memory. During scanning, press and hold SCAN to exit Sub-Code scanning.
Setting CTCSS/DCS Tones
1) To select CTCSS/DCS, press MENU twice until the display shows CTC or DCS (flashing on the lower left).
2) By pushing the UP or DOWN button, the display will show CTCSS (ct blinking) or DCS (dc blinking); press MENU to enter the CTCSS or DCS tones. Now select the desired tone with the UP or DOWN buttons.
3) Press the PTT button to exit menu or MENU button to continue setup.
VOX Function (Hands-Free Operation)
BAOFENG F22/T22 enables hands-free conversations through VOX function.

Troubleshooting
- Q: I want to order a headset. Do you have? A: The radio features a 2pin Kenwood headset jack, allowing connection of compatible headsets. Please check with the seller for available accessories.
- Q: I ordered a set of walkie talkies, but after charging the batteries once, they don't work anymore. Do you have a solution? A: Ensure you are using the correct battery type (Li-Ion rechargeable or 3xAA non-rechargeable). If using rechargeable NiMH batteries, ensure they are suitable for recharging. If the issue persists, contact support.
- Q: If I need 5 at the same time, will they work on the same channel? A: Yes, all radios must be set to the same channel and privacy code (CTCSS/DCS) to communicate with each other.
- Q: Is there a program for setting frequencies in the set? A: The manual mentions a 'programming port' and 'sub-code scan and store' which implies some level of programmability, but specific software is not detailed. Consult the seller or manufacturer for programming tools.

- If the radio emits strange odors or smoke, immediately turn off the power and remove the charger or battery.
- Never transmit without an antenna.
User Tips
- For optimal range, especially in open areas, ensure the antenna is vertical and minimize obstructions like trees or buildings.
- Remember that PMR 446MHz is for European countries, while FRS 462MHz is for USA, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, etc. Choose the correct version for your region.
- When using AAA batteries, note that only NiMH batteries are rechargeable; alkaline batteries are for single use only.
- Utilize the NOAA Weather Alert feature for outdoor activities to stay informed about severe weather conditions.
